for The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls

I think I recall reading this fic a very long time ago. It has an odd cadence to it, with an unconventional origin story, so I'm leaving my thoughts after reading your updates.

To be honest, I skimmed through everything up until Chapter 7. While making Galatea a mother and a villager is a really novel concept, the plot is quite predictable: protagonist lives a quiet life until a tragic event pushes her to seek revenge. The details are different, but you're treading on ground that's too familiar (origin stories of Clare, Priscilla, Raki etc). Up until Chapter 7, the key standout was Galatea's character: slightly sassy, quick to retort, but overall a bit plain, thanks because of the lack of conflict.

In the following chapters, I get a glimpse of a different Galatea: driven, yet indecisive; wary, yet brave to make a life-changing decision overnight. Your story is starting to fulfill its potential here, since a lot of crucial events happen after Galatea loses her family (rescue, meeting Ermita & other Claymore, joining the Organisation - all within 3 fast chapters).

So, this is a story on the upswing. It's looking positive, albeit pedestrian. If you're going to continue updating, my advice to you is to blend the detail-driven characterisation of the first 7 chapters with the patient worldbuilding of the last 3. I would want to see how Galatea gets that cautious yet cocky personality of hers, and how her own tragic backstory influences how she sees the world as a warrior.

The thing with origin stories is that readers can already see the progression of the plot and where it'll end. The element that's unknown is the question of "how". How does Galatea become 'God-Eye'? How does she survive as a woman surrounded by children? How does she cope with the trauma of losing everyone she loves in a profession where death of those close to her is all but certain?

Focus on these questions, and your story will fly.

Just finished it, i think you capture galatea's character very well, a beautiful writing worthy of her character. Btw have you read shelter's Snakehead? it has the same feeling as when i read your story.

The way you capture Galatea's elegance and sweetness in the very chapters themselves is breathtaking! Well done! I look forward to the rest of this story!
