for it's a game of give and take

This was such a lovely way to explore the hospital scene further, and I really love the idea that Juliet and Gus have a history of lunches together sometimes. They get paired together so rarely on the show that it's a delight to see their friendship here and it does feel very believable. The light-hearted humour that flows between them is sweet, and their gentle jokes about Shawn also ring true. The deeper subject matter at the end doesn't feel out of place, either - just a natural extension of their conversation. It makes sense that Juliet would take this fairly safe opportunity to see if what she believes about the situation is, in fact, the truth.

Every time I watch this episode, I think how hard it must have been for Gus and Juliet to sit there, waiting to see if she had Thornberg, and I liked your nod to this at the beginning.

Your handling of the Abigail situation at this point actually helps to clarify what we suppose has happened, and Gus' comment about Shawn wanting it to cool down was such an interesting take on the situation. I think he has always been a little bit conflicted about Abigail, because of Juliet, but has tried to be honourable about it.

The churro anecdote was hysterically funny. Your comic timing as you (and Gus) told the little tale was spot on, and I loved the image of Shawn asleep in the Psych office next to a tower made of all those churros even he couldn't eat...

There were a lot of delightful nods to the episodes peppered throughout this story - American Duos, the fact that both Gus and Juliet love comic books, the stealing of lunches (and how Buzz reacted, which was so very him), to name just a few.

And then we get into the heart of the story, which is their discussion of the events at the hospital. I'm glad you showed that Juliet did pick up on Gus' comment about Shawn stopping at nothing to find a cure. Your approach to this whole subject works really well, with the whole idea of the 'out' (something we are, indeed, familiar with) and its history, which I really loved because it does prove that, no matter how much trouble Shawn creates, he never really wants to hurt Gus. And so, Shawn didn't take the out this time from his best friend... but perhaps he did from Lassie? That's very interesting. As you know, I always wondered what would have happened if Lassiter hadn't arrived, and I like to think that Shawn would have tried to get the words out in the end, but this is also a very valid theory and I do like the reasoning behind it. I also loved the way you made Shawn's words repeat on a loop in Juliet's head: What am I waiting for now...? Which is then echoed by the way she thinks about Gus' comment: He's almost there. He wants to be there.

A great story, as always. I love that episode for so many reasons, and I really enjoyed seeing your take on it here.
