All I have to say is that it was perfect.

The word perfect is grossly overused, but the words, the plot, the characters, the imagery, all perfect and without flaw.

Sarah was so good. In the movie, she had no personality or anything. In this she had a personality and wasn’t afraid to use her words, but was still a good teenage girl for that time. She was still scared around the newsies in the lodging house, which shows that she knows what she is capable of, and what they are capable of, and that she would lose the fight. Well done.

I loved Spot. He’s such an amazing guy. He has his flaws, but they weren’t his only feature. I liked that he cared about Jack, and was able to rely on Jack for support in the hospital.

My only wish is that there was a sequel. I want more Spot and Sarah. They really are #relationshipgoals. Can I have a bf exactly like Spot who also carries a pimp cane? Please?

Anyway, thanks for writing it. It deserves more exposure. Keep writing! I’ll read it for sure!

AB?

I really love how you connected Jack's father with Spot's potential for becoming a crime boss. Strange, but I always forget Jack's father was locked up. Of course he would be worried about the same happening to his friend! Excellent insight.

Oooo! I'm intrigued by Spot and Sarah's backstory. And I love how you've characterized Spot and Jack's relationship; I always felt like they had a unique vibe, and you've carried it over very well.

Nooooooooooo, Spot! Oh my, I must know how he got to this terrible place. And falling into the winter river? Uff.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't know if you'll ever see this...but mmmaaannn! I need more! You've done such a great job and this is one of the best one's I've found. So thanks for what is here. It was a good read!

omg poor spot. please tell me he's going to be okay! :-/. And poor Jack. oh gosh what a rough place for all three of them to be in-spot almost dead, jack betrayed, and sarah open and vulnerable. can't wait to see what's next!

oh jesus, that was a tumultuous chapter! Spot's father is such an evil, maniacal villain. What a messed up family life. But sarah comes to save the day. You never realize how important something is to you until it's gone. I have to go on to the next chapter to see what happens!

Oh lord...poor spot. I kind of want to shake Sarah for losing her temper. I have a feeling he has a good explanation, but at the same time, I'd be disappointed too if I heard that about him. Especially because the main reason she decided to befriend him was because of his care for other people. And when she said the L word I legit said "wow". They both are messes and need to take some deep breaths lolol. But I'm worried for Spot. That ending...he's up against something pretty ominous.

WHAT?! Okay I was grinning like an idiot for the entirety of this chapter, just so contented with them getting along (even though there was obviously more going on) and then the foreboding at the end and bam, you hit us with that. Love it! Wonder why David feels that way too? It almost reminds me of the "chorus" in those old greek and roman plays that sets the tone and the mood. Is that what DAvid is doing? Very intrigued!

Poor Jack. I understand why he's hurt by Sarah, but why is HE avoiding Spot? If I were Jack I would be thanking him profusely for saving my girl. But has he put two and two together? Sarah's snub and Spot's guilt? They didn't technically DO anything though. And the Jacobs seem to be having a hard time of it. Things go from bad to worse. Thank God Spot happened to be there! and wow...insert foot in mouth Davie. A nurse? Come on, man, Spot SHOULD have soaked him lol.

Ohhh so it's Sarah who has aided in creating this tension between Spot and Jack. I suppose it would be hard to talk about what happened, but she's definitely making Jack needlessly suspicious. but, i have a feeling if she mentions this to jack, the way she says it will give away deeper feelings that she's probably not ready to admit to herself. And Spot helps Les. He's a good guy. And that ending was very nice. I can't help the feeling of dread though at all these decisions adding up to an unsavory end.

Oh wow...there it is, that *clink* where they both kinda realize what's going on. She finally sees through all his posturing to what he's REALLY doing. And he goes in to save the day. He definitely IS kind of a knight in shining armor. Though I would have liked her to show a little spunk with those guys, but there's only so much you can do when you are outnumbered 2 to 1. ANd poor, sweet Jack. He unfortunately is now the odd man out, and I'm sure he FEELS it. Not positive the full impetus behind Queens attacking Manhattan, or that they wouldn't have realized Brooklyn would come as well. Did they assume Spot wouldn't get word, that they'd be able to get enough damage done before he could get there? I guess they didn't assume one of spot's boys would be over there. Anyway, I digress. Great chapter! Enjoying this story! :-)

wow what a traumatic past spot has. and a sister! I wonder where she is. and its clear the two of them like each other, but what are they going to do with that information? first steps admitting theres something going on! great chapter!

You had me chuckling with this chapter. Teenage boys being teenage boys. And I'm curious why Jack thinks Spot would join a gang. So far I've just seen the light-hearted, playful Spot, so I'm interested in seeing just how dangerous and intimidating he can get. I always like seeing the interplay between Spot's darker tendencies and his potential for good, so maybe in future chapters I'll see it. And he left Sarah a very drunk note and the only thing that was spelled correctly was insolent! HA that's hilarious. Really like the buildup of this story so far! Excited to see where it leads next, though I have some ideas! :-)

I LOVE Spot and Jack's friendship in this. You describe it well. In a way, they both seem like teenage boys when they are together, not so much the feared leaders they HAVE to be. So it's nice they can be that way with each other. And the fact that Sarah and Spot have an interesting history even before she met Jack is a nice spin on their relationship. Interesting that neither have mentioned it to Jack also...hmmm. I also like that Sarah has some spunk to her. She was so underrepresented in the movie, so I love when she gets some screen time to shine. :-) Great job! I'll try to review each chapter as I read on. I really like this story!
