for A Song of Guns, Germs and Steel

The Lannisters have very few numbers and very little time. Gunpowder cannot realistically make a significant difference in this war.

Cannons would be more useful and easier to build than muskets but their enemies would quickly adapt after the initial shock.

"They will not" Renly clarified. "Their ambassador has told me they have come to see Robert as 'barbarian', as uncivilized, a savage…someone not worthy of their help. You know, I did advise against…"

But... Is that even legal? Robert is literally dying and nothing is stopping them from helping him. I don't think they have the right to openly refuse to help a specific person.

Besides, it is a hypocritical thing of their part because Robert is the one who gave them permission to stay in Westeros in the first place. This is the kind of thing that creates mistrust between governments.

Pretty good!

I like the way you structured it. Very smooth.

For a bit of constructive criticism, you used the phrase "...at this point..." twice. I think you should find a way to drop it. It kind of pulled me out of the story.

Nice job!

Man what a mess
wait if Cersei has other children
they cant get the throne can they
if they cant then Myrcella is the only option for Lannisters
which means that they are maybe willing to risk alot
to get her on the throne

Honestly its not really the end of the world if westeros the rest of planetos started using gunpowder since the modern world of flying men already have weapons far superior to whatever they can scrounge up. They would probably end up killing themselves rather than the aussies and the rest of earth's military.

Honestly the Lannister's having gunpowder formula doesn't really change much in the short-term. Going from that to actual weapons takes time, resources and experimentation. Eventually gunpowder weapons will appear, but not in the time-frame to decide this war or even the war against the Others. Not to mention with guys like Varys the formula will NOT stay long in Lannister hands. In doesn't help that it will be very doubtful that they will manage to keep that a secret for long. At which point everyone will want it.

Stannis felt far to calm and reasonable in this chapter, especially considering he was talking to Mace Tyrell. While, in contrast to large parts of the fandom, I believe Stannis wouldn't actually punish Mace for having stood with Aerys, he would forever hold a personal grudge. Mace also came off as far too competent and intelligent and not boisterous and greedy enough I feel. And so Robert will die soon. Yeah, after the whole thing with the children the Australian's are hardly likely to help him again.

I wonder how the mood and opinion of the cityfolk is. Their city almost got burned to the ground and thousands died. Who do they blame. The Australians as demons, like Cersei and the High Septon told them? Or Cersei and the Lannister's? Is the High Septon being seen as a Lannister puppet now, or a martyr? Depending on the answers to these things may play out very differently. The fact that the Australian's are now distributing food and have most likely medical personal provide aid, will now doubt help swing things in their favour.

I am happy that you update the story. My favorite part of this chapter is Mace Tryell point of view. I like that Mace does not fully trust the flying men intentions. He may think that the flying men may have caused this war for some reason. I also like you did not wrote mace as an bumbling fool but a shrewd person. He may not as shrewd as his mother and daughter but he is aware of the political situation this war is doing the Reach lords. Some Reach lords (espically the Hightowers) may side the Lannister side and my cause a civil war in the Reach.

Some lords may not like Shireen to be would see it as a voilaton of Andal law. They would see Renly as Stannis heir if Stannis dies.

Also, I could be wrong, but I thought the ambassbor has died in the fire? I wonder what some of earths' nations think the current situation in Westeros?

I still think this was a good chaper.

Canonically, Edmure and the Riverlords were able to hold the fords quite effectively (though it wasn't intended). They should be able to block Tywins retreat here quite well - probably they're already moving in position to do so when this conversation is taking place. That army is more intact than before, better supplied and reinforced than in canon, and with more time to march into positions. A pincher move here is very doable.

It occurred to me, though...

Renly still has that plane and the pilots. Aside from trying to just fly Robert through the Ring with it (at which point, if AUS is like the US, they basically have to provide help to someone in distress whether they want to or not, and whether they're in the country legally or not) ... the plane is certain to have a few basic medical kits for first aid, some antibiotics, and the pilots would also be trained in how to use them. It'd be better than nothing.
