for That's The Way Love Goes

That's a big leap in character development for Shane to be the first one to say "I love you".

I appreciated that Shane is still tormented by sacrificing Otis; even though the reason for doing that was to save Carl's life. Shane took a big risk admitting the truth about Otis to Andrea, but he was honest and didn't excuse his actions.

Andrea was also honest when she admitted to Shane that she gossiped about him to the Governor.

This chapter made a strong impression that a storyarc has come to an end and a new one has begun.

I liked the scene where Andrea admitted she'd rather wake up in the backseat of a car with Shane, than in a town run by a sociopath. That illustrates perfectly how the Governor controlled Woodbury.

Shane was smart to stop the car before he and Andrea had their talk; wouldn't want to get distracted and wind up in a crash!

That was a great from Shane: "I don't run. I face what I gotta face."

I think Andrea was right to confront Shane about his fear of a relationship, but talking like a psychologist made her sound condescending; no wonder Shane laughed at her.

I liked the part where Andrea admitted that with the loss of TV and cellphones, she's begun to notice simple things like sunsets. When you stay away from electronics for a couple of days, you do notice things like that.

It was good of Andrea to thank Shane for giving her the courage to fight to stay alive. Shane taught Andrea how to shoot, and how to kill walkers. I think Andrea had that courage within her, but didn't know how to use it properly; a good example of that would be Andrea allowing Beth to attempt suicide.

It's good that Andrea still thinks about her sister Amy.

It was sad when Shane admitted he thinks about his baby everyday. Is the baby alive? Is it a boy or a girl? Will Lori tell the baby about him? Will he ever see the baby? These are questions that Shane will probably never find the answers to.

I think Shane and Andrea were realists, while people like Rick and Hershel were idealists, but that doesn't mean they were always right.

Shane wanted to abandon the search for Sophia and move on to Ft. Benning. He often cited the 72 hours police have in a child abduction case, but that was before the Turn. Now that the walkers had overrun the country, the old rules have changed. Rick was right to continue the search.

Andrea was right that Beth had to choose if she wanted to live or die, but giving her the opportunity to commit suicide was wrong; it even shows Andrea adopted somewhat of a cavalier attitude (Be merry, for tomorrow we may die) about life and death.

Shane was right that the walkers in the barn needed to be put down, but he was wrong about handing out guns to the group and breaking the walkers out to shoot them down. Rick was right that the group were guests on Hershel's farm, and working on convincing him that the walkers were dangerous was the right approach.

Shane was right that Randall was dangerous and needed to be killed. Rick was nave to bring the wounded kid back to Hershel's farm, and Rick was a fool to bring Randall back again when he let it slip that he went to school with Maggie.

I had my doubts about this chapter when it started with Shane and Andrea stargazing, but it ended up being a good one.

I liked that Shane is still guilt-ridden over sacrificing Otis. I liked that Andrea understood Shane's grief, but she gently told him that he needs to forgive himself.

Yeah, the loss of Amy devastated Andrea. I can understand why she gravitated towards Shane; as he was the first in the group to realize society had collapsed and they needed to defend themselves.

I didn't expect a chapter about Shane and Andrea's time in Woodbury. This chapter also takes place when Shane and Andrea's relationship is crumbling, and she's with the Governor. I thought it was interesting that Shane accurately identifies the Governor as a womanizer, especially when that's what Shane was before the walkers appeared.

Good work remembering that Shane's usual response to dealing with frustration (other than violence) is getting drunk. I noticed that despite the haze of alcohol, Shane remembers that Andrea told him to "work on his presentation", so already she's having a positive impact on him.

I laughed at Shane's brief thought about trying to bed Michonne. Good luck with that!

The scene where Shane traded insults with Merle was good. I'd rather that Martinez not been there, however, as Shane and Merle have an (offscreen) established animosity before Rick joined the group outside Atlanta.

I noticed that Shane, despite his drunken condition, tried to mend his relationship with Andrea, but she wasn't interested at that moment. Maybe Andrea, after walking in on Shane with a fresh bottle of alcohol in hand, thought he was only cared about staying drunk and was only saying what he thought she wanted to hear.

I think Shane truly believed Rick was dead and was shocked when he reappeared at the quarry outside Atlanta. I think the realization that his secret relationship with Lori was over that night while he was on sentry duty.

Yes, Lori conveniently forgot that she started a relationship with Shane. In the TV series, Lori put all the blame on Shane and didn't blame herself until it was too late to save Shane.

I thought Shane was crazy when he briefly considered asking Lori to leave the group with him, but then he realized Lori would never leave Rick. I was surprised there was no mention of Carl going with them.

I liked that Shane realized he was so self-centered he didn't wonder why Andrea would ask if she could leave the group with him. Now, Shane realizes the positive influence Andrea has made on his life, and unlike Lori, she will stand by him.

I sympathize with Dale looking out for Andrea, but I think Dale crossed the line when he asked Andrea if she and Shane had done more that search for Sophia.

I guess this is an alternate version of your Shane and Andrea stories.

I always thought Shane and Andrea going to Florida to check on Andrea's parents would be their first plan of action. Your description of the ransacked neighborhood in contrast to the pristine house was good.

I liked that Shane let Andrea go into the house first. Whomever or whatever she found inside, he knew she'd have to be the one to deal with it. I expected Andrea would find her parents had turned into walkers long ago, and she'd have to put them down, instead the house was empty, just like when Rick returned to his own house after he woke up from his coma.

Andrea's revelation that she's lost her parents was devastating. Whether they're alive or dead, there's no way for Andrea to find them. I liked that Andrea compared her situation to Rick's, as she and Shane left the group on the pretense of a supply run, and Rick has no idea what happened to them.

I liked that Shane comforted Andrea by holding her instead of talking to her. Shane knew that whatever he told Andrea would be "a shallow promise", so he just held her as she sobbed.

I think the notable thing about this chapter is that Shane and Andrea are both too exhausted to talk: they survived Negan and the Saviors, they survived the walkers, and they survived the journey to Maryland. When Shane and Andrea stop for the night at the welcome center, they quickly fall asleep.

I liked how Andrea noted it was easier for Shane to get physically close to a woman, than it was for him to get emotionally close.

Andrea didn't cook any meals at Hershel's farm;she was on sentry duty, or as Lori put it, she "(sat) up on that RV, working on your tan with a shotgun in your lap".

Nitpicking aside, I like that Andrea realized that Shane's sexist comments during gun training were only meant to get her to focus on a moving target. Shane apologized (again) for bringing up Amy; he was out of line and he knew it.

I'm glad that Andrea realized she has the makings of a sharpshooter, and that she thanked Shane for believing in her.
