As much as I'm hurt with the ending this is definitely a well-written piece. Sticks to the canonverse without pulling a really odd characterization here, and I can definitely see Rachel doing this to Ragna to deflect her chance of being with him.

So, this review may ring a bell or two. I read your fic when you posted it on AO3 and I left a guest review. A friend once again gave me a heads up that it showed up here too, and I happily took the excuse to give it a reread. Everything I said before still stands, so I hope you won't mind if I just copy and paste my review from there. Probably won't mean much, but if other readers are swayed by a review to check a fic out then I hope I can be of some help. Effort is all almost nonexistent these days in this community so credit where credit is due.

I think you perfectly captured the tone of their dynamic back during the Calamity Trigger days. The genuine love and longing from Rachel is there, but the way she holds herself back from embracing a doomed relationship (at least during the loops) is that exact degree of bittersweet she carried herself with in that first game. The way she had to let her usually act set back in as we got her real feelings via narration was done very well, and I think that would be my biggest take away from this story. Smart of you to have her disdain for blood making her snap out of her desire, as well. She won't let herself lose control, but I also like how you balanced that with the fact she couldn't face him. Shows that while she will never let her feelings overpower her mind, they aren't something that she can deny either. Really good balance you struck with her, I have to say.

I don't think I got quite as much out of Ragna here, but I would still say he is definitely done right here. Him contrasting Rachel with his "think first, ask questions never" way of things shows well. For him I would say I particularly like how frustrated and short you made his temper. You quickly get across how upset he is with her, but don't drag it out. You did something a lot of people who think they know Ragna don't do and that is have him walk away from his problems. Pressing Rachel on the matter could've been an option, but he got angry and he doesn't know what to do with his anger besides throw it at someone usually via a fist. Seeing as he can't, or at least won't, do that to Rachel he'll just curse and storm off. You handled that well with not saying too much on his behalf and I think that worked out well.

And one more time, really, nice job.

Not...entirely sure of what to make of this story, or how t'feel. Taking the circumstances into account (Calamity Trigger), I s'pose Rachel's "bitchy" deflection to their kiss makes sense, but it reads very teen-drama melodramatic-like - especially with the abruptness of its ending. Gave this one-shot a "meh" feeling when it came time to close the curtains.

I don't have much to say about the writing itself as I think it was solid all around, save a few that could be tweaked a tad.
