Keep it up! Always a welcome for more Moana stories ;)
And this one seems to be full of adventure already, I wonder what will happen next!

I am definitely intrigued, you've set up quite the mystery! I really enjoy Maui's conversations with the ocean, seems like they have a better relationship these days than in the movie, and very understandably so! And you made it very subtle and in character for both Maui and the ocean.
If you don't mind, I do have a small critique. When maui is explaining his fear/nausea of cursed objects to moana, it struck me as a very vulnerable thing for Maui to be doing, opening up about his past and present anxieties. Telling people about his fears and weaknesses cant be easy for the great demigod Maui, and in the movie it took 2 near death experiences for him to work up telling moana something that personal, and even then it looked emotionally painful. Him doing it here would be no small thing. Not out of character, because it could mean that he and moana are just that close that he feels safe telling her when he might not with anyone else. That part all checks out.

My critique comes with how moana handles his confession. I think she knows it's hard for him to admit fear or any other sort of weakness, and in the movie she responds very compassionately to his vulnerable moments. She validates his feelings but also leads him to a new perspective on how to grow from the wounds of the past, like any good therapist. I guess I just have a problem with her rolling her eyes at his worry and thinking "oh Maui, you and your fear of curses". She uses the info to question his bravery, although she tries to take it back, I can see Maui being very defensive and hurt at her comment. As someone who suffers from anxiety, it's the kind kind of comment that would repeat itself over and over in my brain and make me feel shame at having told someone my fears. Maybe I'm reading far too into it /because/ I have anxiety, but it stuck out to me. Her manipulating him to going anyway, right on the heels of that conversation feels off too, although she did use that exact method to get him finally to agree to sail with her in the movie (the whole, "you are not my hero" scene) so i suppose it in in character... But that was before she knew his full traumatic backstory...idk.

Although I gotta give credit that she does offer Maui a positive perspective on the situation when he starts talking about how "you can't just solve an island", which is pretty in character.

Now my anxiety is acting up and debating whether to just delete this whole review so I'm gonna just post it quick before i lose my nerve .

TLDR: great mystery and character POV of Maui, you made me really relate with Mauis anxieties. :) cant wait to read what happens next
