Great chapter as always! I had not heard of the Qixi Festival but upon your recommendation looked it up and the story behind it. Loved the story and your seamless integration of it into this chapter as well.

Speaking of integration, I always love anytime you include details of the Nakamura's history. It shows such dedication to you building up not just your character's backstory, but how they have existed in this world. Too often an OC seems to just be plopped unto the world and despite seemingly being important, they have never made any impact on history whatsoever. I am very happy to say that is not the case in the slightest with your story.

Love the intro of Izumi, always hated how little she did in LoK and I hope we get to see more of her, especially after the intro you gave her.

Can't wait to keep reading!

So glad to get caught up on the story now! One quick note is that this last chapter is missing paragraph breaks. Wasn't too hard to follow, but figured you'd want to fix it.

Lots of interesting stuff over these last few chapters:

-Lu Ten's apparent survival
-Mimi's involvement with the Equalists
-Amon already being in charge of them

I want to touch on that last part as I was quite curious as to how you were going to handle them. You had already name dropped Noatak in an earlier chapter and I thought you may have gone the route of him not being their leader until later in life, but it seems as if he was actually important from the start (as well as adds a wrinkle to his involvement with Mimi)

Either way, I am really excited to see where this goes.

I too have have been really frustrated with FFN lately and my own stories not updating and have considered making the switch to Ao3. I do like FFN's follow/favorite system better, but it may be time to give up since they don't seem to want to fix anything.

Something about that mistress calling scene was so familiar and I'm ecstatic over the reference! I haven't read the book in years but that scene is so great it stuck with me. You did a wonderful job of adapting it to your story.

The dysfunctional family dinner was so well written. Something about it seemed straight out of a play to me. With the sharp dialogue, the relatability of meeting in-laws and of course the cursing haha

Really great last two chapters!

Oops, I meant to post my previous review on chapter 7 so some of the stuff I said only makes sense with that in mind.

Shorter review this time around for the last two chapters: I am in love with your world building so much. Any story that incorporates politics this well is an instant winner in my book.

And I really need to read the Kyoshi books, thanks for the reminder :)

Keep it up!

Really enjoyed the use of excerpts from Mimi's book and Iroh's journal to open the last two chapters. I am a total sucker for any story that uses that writing device.

Now that we've gotten a better sense of their romantic past I can say that I've really enjoyed it thus far. Iroh seems to take after his namesake when it comes to romance while Mimi struggles with love is a great parallel.

If I could give some small advice, it would be to maybe cut down on the amount of names introduced at once like in the previous chapter. I know that they helped move that plot along, but it can be difficult to remember who's who when reading a bunch of foreign names back to back like that. At least it was for me, it will definitely vary from person to person.

Anyway, can't wait to keep reading!

I really liked the past two chapters, especially the characterization of Iroh II and Azula. I know the story isn't about her but I'd love to hear how she got to this point of her life, especially since she seems to have a soft spot for her great nephew.

I must admit I am surprised to hear Iroh II isn't that popular in the fandom, I loved his appearance in the show, particularly in the first season when he unknowingly became a flying ace (five planes shot down in a single flight). Although I will admit I haven't kept up with the Korra fandom as heavily as AtLA.

Your writing of him has been really great and I loved the bit about his top knot as a neat tie in for his appearance in the show.

Your use of Asian culture is blended in perfectly and it really shows how much effort goes into the writing of the story. Keep up the good work!

Loving Misao as a character thus far and your integration of flapper culture with her is great. I also really admire your use of first person perspective. I've always found it to be a much harder writing style to nail compared to third person as it makes it that much harder to keep "your" voice separate from the characters. There is no such confusion here though, Misao is a fully realized character and I can't wait to see her grow.

I love the use of inserting other stories or books into this as well. Other literature existing and being referenced just makes the world feel so much more alive and fleshed out. You especially went the extra mile by using a more culturally appropriate version of Cinderella.

This definitely has the feeling of a medieval court drama mixed perfectly with the intrusion of modern conventions like paparazzo, parties and the like. I cannot wait to read more.

I feel a little sorry for Azumi but...

Just a heads up, ffn is broken and won't show the two newest chapters. If you don't feel like getting the app just check go down to Ao3 :)

Thanks for the cameo of my thirty-year-old, stone-faced virginal earthbending master in the story, the few mistakes of his background didn't deter me from enjoying this chapter fully, the scenes of Iroh and Misao opening up to each other, is cute and full of fluff, with a side of shade and snide in the mix. Every chapter of this story has kept me on my toes, even though the chapter content is short and a few mistakes. I like how the two are getting to know each other, via their revelations of their sexualities, as a way of building trust. I hope the rest of the family are not as rough on Iroh, as the other members of the family or will Iroh even regret tying himself to this family by marriage.

I'm glad, you rewrote this story and doing a good job in keeping me on my toes.

"I will, however, tell you that you will now have the power to swing the balance in our party's favor. How, you ask, given that Cabinet has told you not to keep your trap shut and do as you are told? Well, I will tell you, sweet sister.”

What a jerk

Wow, that’s so scary that you got coronavirus. I’m glad you recovered okay though that’s horrible about the lasting effects. I’m sorry to hear it’s hit your county so rough.

I like the history knowledge you imparted into the story. Ha, it’s a little sad that Misao’s family finds out about her getting engaged from the newspaper, but that also seems so typical of her wild personality!
