And the action begins.

This is pretty much a battle chapter, and as always, this is no bad thing. The action is as entertaining as ever, with a few big hints of the challenges to come. It is clear that the Dolowa and her commander, not to mention her mobile suit complement, will be no pushovers in the battles to follow.

A good chapter all around. I look forward to the next one.

Not much to say since it's an all battle chapter, but it was high quality with good combat. Looking forward to more

I just hope they destroy her before she gets away.

The two sides have been introduced; the actors taking their places for the first act.

We have a younger, less capable Amuro here, and a talented Sayla trying to drag him up to standard. He appears here as a young pilot, only beginning to realise what he is capable of, though Sayla seems to see it much more clearly. The briefing establishes - clearly and succinctly - the dire situation the Ark Royal faces, and the level of danger they face.

Lutjin appears once again, this time as a diligent and devoted officer; entrusted by Gihren with a vital task, and taking the time to ensure all is done properly. We see him here with his subordinate Lindermann, perhaps the more human and grounded of the two; or at least willing to say what he thinks. Lutjin nevertheless shows a hint of obsession, of a man denied the thing he wants most, and determined to this time claim it. Will this be the tragic flaw that leads him to ruin?

On the whole, a succinct and to-the-point chapter, establishing the characters and the situation from both sides. I await the next chapter, when the action begins.

I love this fic, along with Alpha as a whole. :) A lot better than another fic on here... It's called "Mobile suit gundam: legend of the ultramarine comet Ultima Rem Daikun"

I think the story is partially spoiled by the fact that it is a re-imagining of Gundam to begin with. :p

As for the sidestory, I know of Sink the Bismarck! enough to recognize some of the references, though not enough to know how the story actually goes. Between that and the original series, I can probably take ten guesses how Admiral Lutjins will end up as a result. :P

For now, I can only guess as to why the Zeons had to retreat despite the fleet being so close to Earth's doorstep. Probably safe top say that this was as close to victory as they could get, since we can assume how things would eventually end for the Zeeks.

So this one the side stories to Alpha you talked about doing. Seems be the more on the lines of a Gundam Theatrical anime film akin to DBZ, Bleach, One Piece etc.

This chapter does introduce the main antagonist in the form of Lutjin and the "rival" archtype with Mallet Sanguine..

I remember that Mallet was one of the many aces killed during the Battle of A Bao Q in canon. Good to see you making a use for him in Alpha. My guess this "spiritual" ability that he boast about is his own Newtype powers.

Mallet strikes a bit low key omnicidal manic variety given his vow that all of Earth and even the universe will burn for Zeon's victory.

Its frightening to find out how close ZEON is to Earth and Sol system. Things are really that bad.

Pure speculation, I imagine Dolowa is a experiential prototype ship akin to the Dolos.

Overall this sound like an interesting side story and thanks for bringing it to my attention.

A nice prologue. Short, but thoroughly dramatic, and introducing two new characters.

Lutjin comes across as a lot like his historical counterpart; austere, grim, and utterly driven. His frustration at being hauled back is understandable, and almost palpable. That said, Lutjin seems to buy in to Zeon ideology to some extent; though it's not clear by how much. Hopefully we will learn more later.

As for Mallet Sanguine, I'm not sure. He seems to really enjoy being a mobile suit pilot, and he's good at it to boot. Precisely what he means by 'spiritual' superiority remains to be seen.

All in all a good start. I look forward to more of this one.

Cool story. Though I have to wonder why Dozle called a retreat. Was it like the decision made at leyte
