for The Force that Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower

I liked the way you wrote Rhett's conversation with his mother. It seems to me that this woman was really caught in the conflict between father and son, and since she also had younger children, she did not have the courage and a great chance to change something or help Rhett.

Rhett asking for his favorite treats? Oh, this is a little annoying for me, well, let's let him play a little boy, maybe this is his temporary whim..

And also, after reading about the hornet's nest, I thought - maybe it wasn't the ad that hit him so hard, but really the names of men? Is one of them a hornet? I'd bet on Leif. Not that I think that there are no kind and altruistic people in this world, but Scarlett has not had much luck with men in the past, and there are so many cute and selfless guys around her at once. So doubts creep in, maybe Babette is a Trojan horse sent by Leif to monitor Scarlett's affairs. I mean, she's inside the house and she sees a lot - who comes to visit, who brings things, etc. Leif wouldn't have seen all this with his own eyes because he doesn't live with Scarlett. Will Scarlett suspect her super chef of being a spy? No.

But maybe all this is nonsense and I'm paranoid. I just want Scarlett to be safe.

Fantastic chapter as always. Loved the conversation with Eleanor, I totally got lost in it. So much happened to Rhett that she doesn’t know about or understand, she probably wanted to stand up for him but against a tyrant of a husband was powerless to do so. There seems to be no doubt that his lack of trust in anyone other than himself stems from his troubles in adolescence. Thank you so much for your efforts, they are greatly appreciated.

The scene with Rhett's mother was very intense. So much insight into characters in that scene. I loved how Rhett thought about the night he abandoned Scarlett at Rough and revelation about his thoughts of putting Scarlett on a train when she was still so ill was very well done.

I am really enjoying your Scarlett but Rhett not so much. Lol However, I am infatuated with your Leif. I think would make a wonderful. Rhett is too damage by his life to ever be good for any woman, the thing is Rhett knows that why he can only really handle superficial and shallow relationships with Prostitutes.

So poignant and wonderfully writter. The conversation between Rhett and his mother is brilliant. He is still a little boy begging to be loved and won't admit it. It will be very sad if he has truly blown his chances with his wife and children. Scarlett has never been the best judge of character, so we will have to see who can really be trusted. Perhaps her new friend Belle can give her some lessons in reading people.

This was great! Why is Rhett in such denial about his feelings. Is Ashely pursuing Babette? I noticed you mentioned how he went through the kitchen. That would be an interesting couple. Leif’s and Scarlett’s conversation was a bit shocking. I was not expecting that to be laid all out. I’m also dying to find out the Rhett/Leif backstory. Love your story and I can’t wait to read more

What a delightful chapter!
All the talk between Rhett and his mother was insightful and somehow make it easy to understand his mother's action...well, her passiveness. Yet I can't sympathy her, but again she is kind of woman that Rhett admires (his mother, Melanie...) Not Scarlett that he despises so much, especially her mothering skill, her unladylike behaviour, but I'm sure she would fight tooth and nail to get back her son, if she were in this condition, even if she had to divorce and prostitute herself.

I both agree and disagree with Harper Lee! Yes, unfortunately the blood's relatives never change and we couldn't choose and mostly everyone tag your relatives to you and you to them.
But, fortunately as we are improving, in modern society mostly see you more as a singular person than a member of a clan/family...

Mother, father, brother... They all have a description, a duty, a rule, a loving bond, when they don't fulfill that rule and duty and cut that bond, then they aren't that anymore even though they still share the same blood.
Sometimes we hold about a thin and weak line, we should just let it go, then we would be free.

That's the problem with Rhett, if back then, he really understood that that father was never going to be a real father for him and let that thin thread go then he could be free and less bitter, not someone who was always angry at the world, at the unjust of that he had 'this kind of father' and other boy had that kind. That is the way of the world some with supportive relative, some with nothing and worst some burden the enemy in the skin of relatives. We should put that heavy load down and forget about them and Rhett never did that.

Lol, I'm rambling, but I understand that that quote is more about Rhett's father than Rhett, or am I wrong?

I also like the comparison between Scarlett's accident and Rhett's and the Train. It has so much meaning behind it. At least he was honest with himself that he didn't want another man in Scarlett's life and it wasn't because he was worrying about Scarlett. But Rhett, really, this isn't love, it's just pettiness, jealousy, possessiveness and sadism.

Thank you for the update!
