Oh dear...Glass doesn't really do the "cuddly mentor" thing, does she!

Yeah, District 2 are...unpleasant. I wouldn't trust them either. Glad to see Kelpie's got some skill with knives though, let's hope it's enough to get her into the alliance. Wait, why am I worrying about her when this is about Shore?! And I love the scene where the careers (apart from Aggie) are building the shelter - they're mostly human this year, it seems. Even if they do suck at homemade shelters. Nice way of bringing in the tied-and-tested career strategy, too!

Okay, so now Astrid is comparing herself to the president? I almost feel like there's some sort of narcissistic personality there? That said, I love how she took Delia down over the table manners comment, awesome!

Iry, I'm proud of you, sitting in the middle of the room! I actually wonder what advice other victors are giving to their tributes about her. It's occurred to me that this is actually where Terra not coming to the Capitol will have worked against her, because she doesn't really know anyone from the other districts, so they might not feel the same guilt about their tributes potentially killing a victor's sister.

Wait...Astrid's got an ally? So much for working alone... though I'm not sure that both trying to specialise in the same weapon is wise. Also it makes me smile every time Astrid is irritated by someone who might be as good as/better than she is!

Oh my flipping... WHAT just happened?! I can't decide if Nell just won herself the games, painted the world's biggest target on her back or signed the warrant that will get her blown up as soon as the pedestals begin to rise!

But wow, I'm impressed by her guts. Actually, they're surely going to keep her around because she's interesting. I wonder if she's got any idea what will happen after the games though...I almost hope for that reason she DOESN'T win even though she's my favourite. Because even though the games will change her, it's afterwards that I suspect she'll really suffer...

Poor Seeder. She's going to age ten years during these games!

I don't know who I feel more sorry for, Iry or Terra. Terra, I think - this is going to be absolute h_ll for her and she's going to spend the whole time wishing she was able to take her sister's place and save her from the arena.

Iry's a sweetheart - but at the same time she's smart and isn't freaking out. Brave kid! I'm glad the prep team were good to her and she's got Damius.

Also I mentally cheer every time Postumius the idiot shows up and gets abuse from the rest of the District 8 team!

Ooh, this is a tough one. Poor Kelpie (I know this isn't about her, but I feel really sorry for her), how awful to be expecting a volunteer that never comes. Even worse than being a reaped outlier, I think.

I love the interactions between the District 4 victors. Are we going to see more of Riptide? I get the feeling he hasn't recovered from his games yet. Ohh, and I love Mags!

I still feel like Shore has the best chance as victor out of the four featured tributes.

Interesting. Astrid seems very judgmental of all the other tributes. Not that there's anything wrong with being confident, but I feel like she's career-level arrogant. Go to admit, while she's an interesting character I don't actually "like" her very much!

Oh I like Nell! She's got real depth to her personality - not that your tributes don't anyway, but there just seems to be so much to her. I've already read this chapter several times. I feel like she's got the guts to go all the way...
Prediction: I'd love to see Nell and Shore as the final two!

I. Love. Her.

So. Much.

Wow, I am seriously loving Nell, her personality, her cheesiness, her vivocity. She is just... like Lucy Gray from Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, but a thousand times better. Her attitude, her determination and certainty with herself - it's refreshing. She's so nonchalant about the whole thing, like "Oh, just got reaped. What else is new?" and I love it!

I reeeeaaalllyyyyy hope District 11 gets another victor this year!

Oh no...

Poor Iry. Poor Terra. Iry oddly seems really real to me; I love her gumption and cheerfulness. She reminds me of Terra when she was with Fletcher- happy.

I just hope she's got it in her to come back...

Oooh, male POV! I like Shore's attitude and confidence- he reminds me a little of Fletcher from The Most Dangerous Game. I am feeling soooo sad about poor Kelpie! I can't imagine what it must have been like for her, hearing her name and no one volunteering. :( Ouch.

Anyway, great chapter and I'm off to read the next two because apparently I'm an idiot who never checks if a story has been updated.

Noooo! Whyyoudothistoussss?

I knew and hoped at the same time you weren't going to do this (I'm being deliberately vague because, spoilers) and I'm thrilled that you have because what a ride we're in for now! And at the same time - she's 13. We know she's too young to win. I'm going to be reading this from between my fingers...

Oh, I love Shore, he's great! It's nice to see you writing a male-viewpoint character as well. Poor Kelpie, thinking there was going to be a volunteer and then she lost her nerve at the last minute...
I also really like the sense of connection in the district and the implication that there are lots of big extended families - it feels like a great place to be.
On the one hand I feel like Shore's got a great chance, but on the other hand, if District 4 won last year, what are their chances of pulling off a back-to-back victory..?

OMGOMGOMG You're writing another one! Yay! :D

(okay, now I'll try and write an actual review)

Poor Astrid...I don't have a good feeling about her. Or maybe it's because she's from District 3. I'd love to see her come back for her little brother's sake though. It's good to see this side of 3 too, so often people seem to have homes full of gadgets despite barely having enough to eat.
