This is lovely:-) Just like Carter to worry about his pal’s war record being demeaned, not his own...and having to deflect and obscure compliments headed in his direction. He suits the chemistry teacher role very nicely, and am delighted he plucked up the courage to ask the lady out. Yes, Carter...girls are not as scary as impersonating the SS:-p

Great story! How interesting to run into someone who went through their traveler's aid!

I really enjoyed this- its always nice to read a story that stars Carter and goes a bit more in-depth into his character, and I think you captured him perfectly. You struck a nice balance between showing his strengths, intelligence, competence, etc. as well as including parts of his personality that were more awkward or uncertain. The quote you used for the description was fitting and definitely adds to the overall message. I would love to read more of this if you ever decided to expand it, but its a strong story as is. Great work!

Oh, this is terrific. (Good jorb!) This "can't tell" theme is emerging prominently in recent stories. I mean, it's been there all along, but I've seen a LOT more focus on stories I've beta'd lately, as well as in Signy's 2020 opus. I like your handling of it-a connection with someone who actually KNOWS what went on has a lot of dramatic potential.

Carter's forceful handling of Del (a great midwestern/early 1900s name, by the way...) shows his tough, no-nonsense side, which I really appreciate seeing because he HAD to a steelier side like he did in a the few glimpses we are given in canon. Plus Andrew deserves a little romance, and I recall Lucy from Just Playing, so yay!

I agree with you, I think the two Carters are one and the same, which makes the way everyone bossed him around in Stalag 13 doubly annoying. (Also puzzling. Why did Hogan ALLOW it?) I've said a million times, but I really like the wiry, fit Carter who can do sit-ups like nobody's business and climb a wall like it's nothing, both of which are canon details.
