When I first read this a few weeks ago, it was just supposed to be a quick glance at the first few paragraphs so I could start brainstorming ideas to sub, but I ended up reading the whole thing and it just stuck in my head. It's such a cool concept and you really popped off with this prologue.

I am really impressed with your characterization? Mahira's voice and personality come across so strong in this chapter and we really only get like 1k words from her, it's not a long chapter by any means. It really establishes the attitude of most of the viewers of the show and the ways in which they have emotionally distanced themselves from the violence they are watching/supporting.

Last point: I'll say more about this in my C2 review bc it's mainly about the blog but I like that this chapter emphasized the social media aspect because I personally think the "The Cut - Live" thing on the blog is one of the coolest and most original ideas I've seen in any SYOT, not just a modern AU but like...in all of them. And you started to introduce that in this chapter which I just love!

ITC lives in my head rent free all day every day and I am so excited! Idk when I'll review ch2 (might do it right after this one lmao hell if I know?) but I cannot wait to start meeting the kids!

Back again, hi!

Simon has every right to feel almost betrayed by the realisation that picking random prisoners isn't going to cut it (lol), and it's about creating a season of interesting individuals rather than picking names out of a hat. I get that, and I understand that there's a certain corrupt nature about the whole idea with the "you help us, we help you" kind of deal. Alma has every reason to play it how she wants to play it, but poor Simon seems so sweet with finding out the criminal histories and reminding himself that these young people did in fact do x, y and z.

The love the live-tweeting idea, it's almost as if we can be Mahira, tweeting away and starting a conversation. Like someone else said, it's a great way to interact with us as submitters and any potential readers of your story. I might have to give that a go at some point! I see you've accepted 18 criminals, which I live for, 18 is much easier than 24 for starters, but aside from that I can remember all their names 10x easier lmao! I love this so much, I'm ready for the journey, and I'm excited to see you write Remy and the other tributes!

I won't do a blog review for this, despite the fact it looks awesome, and the png pictures are bomb with all the titles and stuff? While I'd give you a few blog favourites, I don't feel like I can honestly pick any right now, they all look awesome! I will give you a chart as we go along so you have my opinions on these criminal beans though, I hope that's okay.

Over and out!

ASDFGHJKL HI I'M HERE, FINALLY, I KNOW

Oh Mahira, if only you could see what's really going on beyond your live-tweeting and keeping up to date with feeds! What I love about this chapter and this story in general, is that it poses a very important moral question regarding the quantifiability of "goodness" or "badness" and it uses that moral question to create something amazing. We have criminals fighting in a games for their lives and people that watch it. The people don't realise they're entertaining murder, or do they and they just don't care? Meanwhile the criminals, unable to fight against the system are paying dues for their crimes.

I love the moral ambiguity of this combined with the high-school social media situation and the idea of digital popularity - it's all just perfect and all ofthe ethics in here is big braining me. As a student of Philosophy this is was so perfectly done for me and I loved every second of it. I think you made Mahira an interesting and engaging example of how this all works as well as being very realistic in her mindset, her approach to things and her actions, her split second of concern over the likes and the comments...you have it down to a T.

Great work, and while I'm late to the party, thank you for accepting Remy :)

Over and out!

Hey Olive, as always your patience in dealing with me is so appreciated. I was supposed to be catching up on everybody's stories but I'm operating at a snail's pace here. Didn't think I'd actually be able to submit in time for this one, but I'm glad I pulled through or else I would have really regretted it. I first read the plot details of this story and immediately it brought me back to "Blood Money", which is one of my favorite stories that I wish never got cancelled. I also have to say this, all throughout this year, a lot of great authors have returned and above all Olive, you've been writing essentially nonstop and providing a lot of much-needed entertainment/outlet for people and for that I really need to thank you.

It's nice to see Canada finally getting some representation in the HG universe; I've never been there myself but it's a place I've always intended to visit and even settle in at some point in my life. The idea of a reality show, where criminals fight each other to the death, while people vote on them, is an idea I've wondered about before. I think I saw a Black Mirror episode about this actually. My memory is probably failing me but I don't actually think we've seen that angle played straight before in a Hunger Games story. We've seen hundreds of tributes with shady pasts and dark secrets, and even tributes from prisons, but never a whole cast composed of convicts. I guess, for me, it's going to be harder to feel attached to the cast since they're criminals. At least a few of them have to be nice though. I'm seeing a few murderers in there, drug dealers, money launderers — these are some mean Canadians. Impossible, I refuse to believe mean Canadians exist.

Poor Simon actually thought the list was going to be randomized, as if Alma was going to let it fly having a bunch of drug addicts and first time offenders fighting each other to the death. Obviously, they want entertainment so they're going to get it. I wonder what the lengths they'll go to make sure they get young criminals that are actually entertaining.

You went above and beyond with this blog and it's seriously your best one yet. I loved how you turned the faceclaims into PNGs, that's brilliant and makes the blog look a lot cleaner and more like authentic? lmao the Live feature is ingenious, you took the interactivity of this story a step further and I know people are going to have fun with that in the later parts of the story.

This is a very well put together cast, a few seem to have lighter offenses than others but most of them unquestionably belong in a cell which I'm glad is the case.

Standouts to me; I really like Vanessa for the picture alone, but I think it'll be interesting to see how a (presumably) lowly, cynical drug pusher responds to having to suddenly care about fighting for her life in a reality show death match. Ilya is overall just a fantastic, promising profile and I feel like she was the arm candy of a crooked public figure or some sort of a seducer figure. Emile I like for the same reasons as Vanessa. I love Vanya's profile honestly because it reminds me of Emma Frost which is a stupid reason but also 17 COUNTS of 1st degree murder?! I'm guessing that's the assassin LOL. Eden kinda has that assassin vibe too with a strong Italian influence. Bronte sounds cool, the arson thing opens up the potential for an interesting backstory. Remy intrigues me for the twin aspect. And Rylan has an amazing name and plus the arson aspect makes me interested. Logan is different but in a very good way.

The biggest baddies of the cast here seem like Vanya, Eden, Moe, Remy, and Rylan - bunch of Hannibals and I wonder how quickly they'll have to separate some of these people.

That's my thoughts for now. Now you stay safe, stay cozy, and have a happy holidays!

ok im back again wow shocker and a stunner! i feel powerful olive
no one can stop me now
i love simon lol what a naive man, i thought he'd know better but bless his soul he's probably the type to just do his job without questioning, and now that he'd learned that the delinquants are actually carefully selected and perhaps some shady busniess going on behind the scenes (perhaps some are not willingly participating wink wink) it's gonna be hard for him to take it in
idk if im making sense ill just do a small chart because the blog didn't include s/w's and it's hard to get a picture on these kids' personalities, nevertheless i loved the blog's layout, the dark theme, the transparent background of the tribs' picture IT WAS JUST SO NEAT
AND THE FUCKING TWEETS
OLIVE YOUR GENIUS I AM SIMPLY IN AWE

This is so exciting!

We been knew, but I love this concept with every part of my being. Simon’s POV added to that love with the intrigue and drama regarding the crossed-out names. Of course it’s rigged, it’s the hunger games (-ish). It nice seeing some innocence in the production of ITC, tho. I bet he’ll get a reality check real soon…

As for the cast: we’ve got some little cuties and savage killers here. I’m excited to meet every single one of them in person. But until then, let’s obnoxiously talk about my expectations, none of which will be true.

Here we go!

Giovanni Abruzzo: his name is nice, and his faceclaim is fire (don’t judge me, I enjoy a cute face, ooop). THE HANDOGRAPHY IS EVERYTHING! Being sanguine and having assaulted someone is interesting. I wonder what made him to it? Maybe it was one of those accidents during a night out, y’know, Devan-style.

Vanessa Dupuis: I’m so pumped to read an Opti tribute! I don’t actually know if I’ve done that before, so i’m hype. She’ll be lovely, of course, with her birbs and sharks(?). It’s kinda fun, her having a leopard-print collar with the little information I have of her. And the same crime as Emile, too! I love her already :)

Mara Suresh: let me flex my religion skills for just a sec. Suresh is a sanskrit epithet used for a lot of hindi gods (Vishnu and Shiva, for example) whilst Mara is the name of a devil-figure in hinduism. So the name actually has an interesting meaning. Fun! Mercurial Partner is also interesting. Color me intrigued.

Ilya Moriarty: I like this name a lot (despite what Z says). And the faceclaim is nice too. From what ”the apparent heir” suggests, however, I expect myself not liking her personality very much. A rich shoplifter? That’s the peak of greediness right there! Watch me be proven wrong, maybe she’s the nicest person ever.

Emile Henderson: hello bby! you’re going to be so hurt and it’ll break me.

Alexandra Demarco: the first name is nice enough, the surname I’m not the biggest fan of. She seems like one of the most dangerous people so far, if she knows how to use those firearms accordingly. I wonder if there will be guns and the like in the show? You’ve been known to use them in stories before. Hmmm…

Lior Rivkin: of course Z would make a murderer. No surprises there. And a harrowed one as well. I’m excited to see him from what the two of you have already told me, as I’m sure he’s going to bring me lots of pain and tears and all that jazz. Just stay away from Emile and we’ll be gucci. Excitement overload! Aaaah!

Vanya Zborovsky: Linds creating a ”twisted doll” feels kinda on-brand? Idk, in my brain it makes a lot of sense. 17 murders tho… brooooo! That’s a lot. What’s going on inside this girl’s mind? I’m super intrigued to see her backstory and personality, knowing what I know about Linds-tributes. I’m scared tho.

Eden Sorrenti: and here we go with another bunch of murders. It’s fun that Vanya’s a doll whilst Eden’s a puppet. Cool parallels which makes me think they will have some sort of relationship in the show, maybe allies or something akin to that. Friends :pleading face: awwwwww. They’re the careers of In The Cut bye.

Matthew Belmont: Momo said ”mischievous artist” and I love her for it. Sis snapped. I’m excited to see what his criminal mischief actually entails, that’s an interesting combination of crimes right there. Drugs, guns… placid suggests he’s very calm. Does he use drugs to be calm or is he just creepy calm? live for this!

Bronte Davis: sexy name, sexy faceclaim. I have somewhat of a bias (because of things me and Goldie have discussed privately… cough cough) so I’m super excited for this young lady. Arson and trespassing are interesting crimes. I wondered exactly what she burned down? ”repentant punk” is honestly a mood.

Moe Osman: ”sordid shadow” immediately grabs my attention. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?! I’m so confused but also so intrigued. And we’ve got another one with a list of crimes under his belt. People are starting to seem real dangerous. But then, what would Into The Cut be without people killing each other…

Bear Lessard: my heart is saying that I need to love him because of the legend corey is, but my mind says he seems… immature? Idk, what does shambolic mean? I used translate and it literally said ERROR. Also - simple assault? Did he slap someone? Look at them a little too long? I’m conflicted about everything.

Ellie Morrissey: Ali coming in strong with the names and faceclaim. Ellie seems weirdly endearing? A venturing friend sounds like a lot of fun. But then, a venturing friend who carries firearms and steals stuff maybe not to much. Also, drugs? Fun but dangerous. That’s a dynamic I can get behind. LET’S GOOOOO!

Remy Pyne: having taken a brief glance at his form (aka having read it twice), and discussed it with Ben, I’m excited to see what you have in store for lil’ Remy. He’s a sweetheart, in one sense of the word at least. The mechanical twin is actually a smart line to give him! It captures his essence brilliant. This is fab!

Nieve Young: she’s another one with a similar crime to Emile’s so I’m instantly attached? She also looks like several people I know, most of whom I like, so that’s another incentive to root for her I guess. I love the name as well, Nieve rolls off the tongue so nicely. I wonder if her substance and trespassing are connected?

Rylan Poucette: did someone force him to commit arson? Was he blackmailed? The fact that he’s a ”target” makes me think that maybe he’s more innocent than meets the eye? Idk, i’m usually way off about things like this. Maybe he’s a pyromaniac with no feelings? Maybe he’s a cattle rancher (I see you Joseph!).

Logan McCoy: IDENTITY FRAUD?! That is so interesting. Especially paired with being a ”suave technoid” - is he a hacker? Does he make his way into people’s records and use their money to buy stuff? Or maybe he can somehow slide into their bank accounts directly? I’m excited to see him make some chaos.

That’s it for now, I think! Thank you once again for accepting Emile, I’m resigned to the pain you’re about to bring me. And yes, I know I asked for it. I blame myself. Looking forwards to the intros! XD

Super excited that the cast is set and it's time to start meeting all of these people! I love that you touched on something that I was wondering about which was if the selection process was totally random or if the producers chose specific people because of them being high profile criminals or very violent ones to facilitate the drama and the killing that I'm sure bring in the ratings. It makes total sense that they tamper with the random selection process. You can't tamper with it too much and have the entire cast be full of murderers or high profile criminals because then the random selection process would be questioned too heavily, but if you have a few sprinkled in here and there to pat the prisons and important justice people on the back and also have some murderers thrown in there to facilitate the killing and such then it balances out and benefits everyone. I love how it affected the PA though, it does feel like dirty money and a dirty list once you actually know that it isn't random but they're hand selected kids being chosen to die. But the reason it works and there isn't such an outcry is because they're criminals so it balances out in this weird twisted way. I love this premise so much Olive seriously.

So I don't think the format of the blog and this Verse lends itself to a typical blog review, so I'll just simply say I'm really excited to meet all of them and see their differences and how they blend together as a cast! 5 people who have been charged with murder, one of them with a whopping 17(!) counts which is nuts. I'm glad we have a mixture of crimes and such because too many of one would make them not stand out and would get sort of overwhelming but I'm super excited to hear all of their stories!

hi :)

i absolutely adore this concept and can’t wait for this story to kick off! again, this cast looks brilliant...they’re all so beautiful and diverse and exciting and AHHHH! the blog is so unique and amazing, truly a job well-done (the tweets are hilarious)!

your writing also remains top notch (no surprise)! these prologues snapped...really enjoyed hearing from both a fan perspective and producer perspective. poor simon truly had no clue how everything worked lol...it makes sense that the kiddos aren’t randomized (for the most part). a show needs drama and intriguing storylines to draw viewership, so of course some kiddos are gonna get hand-picked!

SO HYPE!

p.s. #VADEN4EVAH
12/22 c2 5Axe Smelling God
I feel so bad for Simon he loves his job and hates how everything is being uncovered by the process of this position of his. I can see why he would be so upset by this. That he doesn’t see the surprise anymore. Also if this was real I can totally see prisons trying to get rid of their worst offenders as soon as possible, this is very believable.

Olive!
This blog was was everything and more and I love the idea of having live tweets. This makes it so much more realistic. Such a great touch, now on to the contestants.

Giovanni- ingesting to see sanguine student, so I’m guessing a happy smart guy. Then I looked at his offense aggravated assault. So he’s a little bit of a hot head I guess.

Vanessa- I like her face claim a lot and to have the wandering cynic gives me Harley Quinn vibes. I hope I’m not the only one feeling that way and drug trafficking is interesting.

Mara- I love this name so much and I see that she can be violent as well. I wonder if she got into it with her partner in crime and ended in a fight.

Ilya- she gives me money daughter vibes with the heir in her description. Also she was sent to jail for money which I think ties into my assumptions.

Emile- so I guess he was caught last second or was thrown under the bus. This was not what I was expecting to see from this. I would hate to be the reason that I’m in jail.

Alexandra- I like the imposter part, this makes her so interesting. I can see form her face claim that she will definitely be a hard one to beat and I’m excited.

Lior- I’m guessing that he hurt someone I his family, like an abusive father or a neglectful mother.

Vanya- okay, I hope I’m wrong but 17 counts of first degree murder. So we’re releasing the next Ted bundy possible into society. She is dangerous and I’m excited for the drama to unfold.

Eden- so I’m guessing that since she’s a puppet that she was forced to kill these people. Is she possibly the assassin that was foreshadowed earlier.

Matthew- so I’m guessing he is a arms dealer or he’s a graffiti artist and is willing to kill for his art. Just some thoughts I’m throwing around but I don’t know how I feel about him yet.

Bronte- so I see that she wants to be forgiven for what she did. Also these are some light offenses and I feel bad that she’s going in with murderers.

Moe- he definitely fits his description to the letter.

Bear- I love this name for some reason and it fits his face claim well. So I’m guessing he is a wild child who got mad at his family and beat them or angry at his friends and ended in a fight. I’m surprised to see where we can come
from this.

Ellie- I understand wanting to have adventures, but I don’t think I want to end up in jail for having some fun.

Remy- so he has a twin who happened to escape and live out his life from the crime. Hopefully I’m in the right ballpark with this one.

Nieve- I’m guessing she lived on the streets and to get by she sold drugs. I think this is a simplistic backstory if I’m right but none the less I’m ready to see what she brings.

Rylan- woah, he possibly set someone on fire this is something I haven’t thought about much. This is so sinister but I’m loving it and I can’t wait.

Logan- thanks for accepting my guy let’s see if he makes it out of this alive.

Well well well! We are finally here with the cast list for ITC aka the most hype au of the 21st Century! I seriously am so fucking excited for all of this to begin and I just know that this cast is fucking stellar! I will go and talk about the blog but first I must read le chapter... OKAY DID IT! wow hearing about the selection process is very fucking neat and WOW this shit is mad sus... cannot say i am surprised tho! Also oooh Eden cameo! I look forwards to hearing more of this tomfoolery but that will come later i reckon! For now, it is blog time!

First off the blog looks super fucking clean and like an edgy reality show which is exactly what it is! And Justice Above All is a sexy sexy slogan so yeah lets look at these kiddos

Giovanni Abruzzo: His name is very cool and I like the fc as well as how u arranged all the fcs with no background. V profesh of you miss em! Anyways he is an optimist but he assaulted somebody. that seems interesting for sure.

Vanessa Dupuis: WOW She is so pretty i am obsessed and I bet she speaks french as well! And she seems edgy because well drugs and a cynic. i'll probs be in love with her

Mara Suresh: So she's young, unpredictable, harasses people, and causes bodily harm... i think she will be unfun and somewhat cruel. Im intrigued. The name sorta sounds like Mary-Sueish LOL

Ilya Moriarty: The name makes me have sherlock flashbacks so BOOO for that but otherwise i am confused as to why a "heir" would steal and launder money. maybe that is why she is a heir bc it is sus. She's pretty too

Emile Henderson:Oh this is remus' bean and i think he will break my heart. Scapegoat is never a good sign, especially mixed with such a scapegoat-able crime like possession. I am sad for him already bc Ashara victor means he is doomed

Alexandra DeMarco: Okay I get HUGE bad bitch vibes from her already... and the crimes she committed are pretty fucking sexy if i do say so myself (lord what is my problem). I feel she's gonna be a serious contender

Lior Rivkin: He is from Z and has a hebrew name so I have no choice but to zimp. He is also a manslaughterer so I suppose that is neat! Hope it was w a vehicle bc that's sexy. Yeah i think we will vibe

Vanya Zborovsky: Ahh all these tiny crimes and then we have my girl and her 17 murders (and those r just the ones she was convicted of xx). I can't fucking wait for her

Eden Sorrenti: The other bad bitch! Hello Eden, I love you so dearly. You have also killed many people which is very sexy and ugh all i have to say is that i believe in vaden supremacy

Matthew Belmont: Artist mischief counts makes me think that he is a graffiti boy so that should be cool! Curious where the gun and drugs come in but I suppose that is information that I will soon learn! Hype!

Bronte Davis: Oh I love her she is a sweetie just based on what Goldie told me. Some fairly minor crimes too which makes me sad that she is in jail... oh arson is bad but still bronte really fucking deserves justice she is a bean

Moe Osman: Oh another murderer. He thinks he's so cool with his 1 murder... Vaden has entered the chat... yeah BOOOOOOO. Nah I bet Moe is cool but he seems like an asshole like just look at him

Bear Lessard: I believe the Bear rumors... i am seriously intrigued by him tho just bc Corey my husband and I have heard things (rumors). Assault isn't too loco in this world and i decided that bear deserves better

Ellie Morrissey: So she is a friend who holds a gun and shows it off and steals shit! That does not sound like my ideal friend but um go off i guess. She looks like she will kill a bitch so i am hype to possibly see that

Remy Pyne: He looks like Kurt Hummel and he kills somebody and robbed somebody. Another underachiever according to Vaden, but i'm curious how him being a twin plays into this. HMMMM maybe the wrong twin was accused? That would be sad

Nieve Young: Aweee she is a stray I think i feel bad for her yeah... this is like very minor crimes i think i will love her and mourn her just wow nieve is pure tho i stan

Rylan Poucette: So he is a target and he is an arsonist, and he seems quiet. I can't say i'm not intrigued. And Joseph mentioned he comes from Sioux background so I'm interested in how that plays into all of this.

Logan McCoy: He seems like a classic chad. Just wants money so like forgery and shit. Idk maybe i will feel bad for him? He just gives me major chad vibes.

OKAY! that is the cast... shocked nobody went as crazy as dylan and i but oh well we are just OP! the bonus section my tweet and the pets made me laugh out loud. So hype for the rest
12/22 c2 2YawningAbyss
I literally adore the concept behind this, and I love how you've combined the story with audience interaction.
People have said this before, but i think that actually makes this whole scenario... plausible? in a way. Like, you genuinely feel like this could be an actual thing that you're watching and commenting on as the audience.
Regardless, I'm super excited to see how this turns out, and in case it needs saying, the way you write it is also amazing!
12/22 c1 1Acereader55
I realized I never dropped a review for this chapter and figured I would before this story starts to take off! Leave it to you as a Canadian to incorporate Canada into a THG universe centered story, I give you props for your creativity as always.

I think it's such a unique concept and one that I think is almost plausible, like I could see it happening in the real world given the sick and twisted nature of people in power in the North American governments. I think if the age range was 18-22 instead of people younger than 18 I doubt they'd get half the resistance they would since they'd be viewed as full fledged adults and therefore the cry against using kids would be virtually wiped out.

I loved the tweets and the exposure of how it's been ingrained into Canadian culture and how virtually everyone watches it, nobody wants to be out of the loop on a cultural phenomenon. Definitely very interested in this story and I love how creative you've gotten for an idea like this one. Super excited to keep reading and can't believe this is the ninth story I've submitted to of yours!
12/22 c1 1Alice Kingsleighs
HEYYYYYYYYY OLIVE ITS ME THE BITCH WHO NEVER REVIEWS (insert shaming z here!)
so obviously i'm here to hype you up! i loved the concept ever since you confided in me about it
Canada s where you and Momo live and i'm pretty sure it's super chaotic juts because of you two
so i can't wait to see how things turn out in this take!
i love how you incorporated social media into this, it's very unique and and it's gonna be even more interesting to see what th actual contestants think of this as a whole
i don't really buy this 'they signed with their own consent' i feel like they're gonna be dealt a low blow and signing up for a death match is their only way out? anywaya it's gonna be interesting to see hardcore criminals and those who got arrested to petty crimes mingle!
interestinnng! fuck mahira lives because we do hate entitled spoiled teens (and shes an influencr FUCK OFF MY HATE FOR INFLUENCERS IS ENDLESS)
im rambling but wtf happened to ivan?
peace!
12/22 c2 34MoonlightSalsa
Ooh yay we get to see our cast! And the blog is super cool! I can't wait to try out that Live feature, that's awesome!

So the cast isn't completely chosen at random? And it seems like Simon is having some second thoughts? I wonder where that might lead?

Can't wait for the next chapter!
12/22 c2 9twistedservice
i'm here i'm here i'm here!
and i'm hype but we been knew

first of all, linds' tweet... thanks for that linds. but i stan beans and the birds forever.

this prologue was super interesting to see, especially the idea that not all of the names are random - it certainly makes a lot of sense especially in the case of some of the 'nastier' kids so to speak. every season must need at least a few of them, and it does nicely tie into the compliance of the nation overall in them killing a bunch of kids on live television? i do enjoy simon's mixed emotions on the fact in that by the time he was finished his research he no longer felt so bad about what was going on.

as for the cast, it's made me even more hyped. i will obviously reserve judgements for when we actually see them introduced before i rag on them based on hardly nothing at all, but i do appreciate all of the ones with more traditional names, so to speak. that is all.

ok bye love u thank you so much for taking matty b and for coming up with this idea!
