I went back and reread Absent Without Leave to refresh my memory. It is one of my favorite stories. Neal really hasn't recovered from what happened to him 4 months ago. Too bad he won't let Peter help him deal with his issues. Looking forward to the next chapter.

I love the way you show what Neal is thinking. I so wish he felt he could talk to Peter and El, but I certainly understand his reluctance to do so. You're off to a great start!

Finally getting a chance to catch up on some reading. I was so excited to see a sequel from you for Absent Without Leave. I'm sure this story will equally amazing. Already my heart is aching for poor Neal. Looking forward to lots of Peter trying to take care of our boy.

Oh, goodness. Poor Neal. You’ve written his scared, scattered thoughts really well. I’m rooting for him to open up to Peter but nothing can be easy.

Always thrilled to read another of your amazing stories! Very excited for this one. Quick note your sentence: "this wall your putting up" has the wrong you're. :)

I have not looked over this site for a couple of years. I really like your Apres Moi and Bonjour stories I had read the prequel to this story sometime ago and do recall it.

My biggest issue is your Peter trying to break down Neal's walls which are there for a reason. Why does he need to do that? Is it make Peter feel good about himself? Neal does very dangerous jobs. His mindset to get into character is important. To feel emotionally compromised is very bad for him to be able to accomplish his job.

Think of it like a soldier about to commence combat . Is it good idea for the soldier to feel weepy ? No pre battle speaking is to get them able to fight and overcome fear.
What Peter is doing damages that ability by making Neal feel insecure and fearful. Men know better. Women tend to insist on emotional vulnerability That is not a good emotional state when going undercover. Smart women know this and instead tend to try to increase confidence and insist their man comes back or else. That bolsters the man emotional strength

Great, a new story from you AND a sequel to Absent without leave, just wow!
Looks like we are where we were left... Neal feeling guilty and not able to trust friends to be there for him (scratch that, not able to feel worthy of friends being there for him and to reach out) and Peter who is there for him, now with a clearer understanding on how Neal got there...
Thanks for chapter 1 and definitely looking forward to chapter 2!
