for Two Roads Diverged

So. The Wild Mountain Man of the Murder Mountain. It has a ring to it.

Other highlights for me: the Yukishiros go through angst and the Himuras enjoy the bath. I liked the balance. And Kenichi and Kaoru are both adorable.

Thank you for this chapter and enjoy the holidays!

Another great chapter! I really like how you brought the Kamiya’s into the story in a way that isn’t forced and feels very in character for the background of all of them. I really look forward to seeing Yukishiro get to know the others & address his own son. I thought contrasting Tomoe with her dad with Hiko & Enishi’s discussion was a good one. It really brought another dimension to the family situation & got a conversation started that would never happen within the Yukishiro family.

Loved this chapter! Uncomfortable moments for Hiko are fun but I really loved the talk between Tomoe & her father. No easy answers and clearly the impact of all the changes are just starting to hit. Of course her father would be overwhelmed with the idea that his daughter loves & is married to one of the most wanted men of his former superiors. That man also being a prime driver in Yukishiro losing his livelihood & likely his sense of identity & purpose only adds to that. I also loved the monkey wrench you threw at Tomoe & the readers. Life didn’t just happen to Tomoe & Enishi. Like all children, she sees her father as fixed in life but he & his circumstances have changed too. The icing on the cake was adorable 7 year old Kaoru!

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy this story? Especially now that you've brought Karou in.

A good chapter. Hiko continues to amuse as he comes to grips with the big city.

I applaud you going the extra mile in getting actual historical information.

Thank you for the update and cultural notes! I was glad to see some breakthrough with Tomoe and her father, and some Kaori cheer! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

That's a bummer for Tomoe's dad, feeling redundant and all.

Takeshi's horribly sad past is a great explanation for why he is closed off now, and really makes my heart hurt for him. I LOVE the Kamiyas. I also have this strange, unexpected hope that maybe Kaoru and Enishi will be friends...

Thanks for another great chapter, and enjoy your holidays!

I really am enjoying this story! I like the way you are delving into Tomoe's relationship with her father and how he would react to this whole...situation. You write very well and I get excited every time that I see a new chapter update! The banter between Hiko and Kenshin is so enjoyable and so is little Kenichi! Writing young children is hard and while I won't say that it's perfect (his language skills...I'm training to be a speech-language pathologist) it does not detract and simply makes me love him all the more. Well done! Additionally, I can be very critical of stories and I love that your story feels natural and is written so well! It's like a breath of fresh air!

Kaoru was from a samurai family? Since when?

Canon!Kenshin from the very start of the manga/anime told Kaoru that a sword was a tool for / kenjutsu was the art of killing. I don't really see Kenshin changing that view but in this he gets to actually meet Kaoru's dad, which should be interesting considering how soon after the war it is and the sakabatou and all.

I wonder how long it'll be until someone tries to kill one of them, given how Kenshin and co. have basically set up shop right in the middle of the homes of the people whose lives he turned upside down. ...It's actually really audacious of Kenshin to just waltz into a district like that when you think about it. Kaoru might not care (of course she doesn't!) but then she's just a kid from a family who seems to have made the transition more or less fine (would her father even like Kenshin if he fought for the other side?).

Glad to see the evervecent, pony-tailed Kaoru-chan make an apperance! It makes sense that Kamiya and Yukishiro knew each other, so thanks for incorporating them thusly. Still a little strange to have Tomoe and and Kaoru walking down the street together. Fan art, maybe? Anyway, thanks for writing!

Whoa! You certainly know how to knit! I had not expected Kaoru to show up in this fic. It is giving me an extremely vivid look at the age difference between Kenshin and Kaoru. And to imagine Yukishiro and Kamiya knowing each other; small world.

It has to be hard on Tomoe, understanding that the change in the government left her father unemployed and possibly, given his apparent refinement, without skills in the new world. When will this realization hit Kenshin? Oh, wait, Kenshin has limited skills as well, and little of the refinement.

Hiko is enduring and holding things together, sort of. Enishi is still annoying and Kenichi is still adorable.

I look forward to the next installment.

So, Hiko has the full understanding of what Kenshin is willing to do, risk his own life, against any adversary, by using a reverse-bladed sword.

The Yukishiro kids have issues with their dad. Kenshin, the man, the former hitokiri, not the idiot apprentice, may be able to hold his own with him, but that’s yet to be seen. I was surprised Kenshin plainly admitted that he'd been a hitokiri for the revolutionaries since his actions negatively affected his father-in-laws' way of life.

I look forward to the next installment of this tale.

I…I buried them. I buried them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children too. They're corpses, and I buried them like corpses.

I forgot how sith like their training was.
