for Five Children

A lovely ending, and I really enjoyed reading Wonka's reactions to the other contestants. He would still have gone ahead with the tour if Charlie hadn't won the ticket but the other children would still have failed their "tests" so I wonder if he would have started another contest to find an heir? Still, it turned out the way it was supposed to and I'm glad Charlie got his interview in this version.

I can just imagine Wonka reacting like that! From his perspective, no matter what kind of personality the child has, surely they should love chocolate! Mike just sees the Golden Ticket competition as a problem to be solved, not the opportunity to visit an amazing factory.
I like how Wonka was working in the TV Room when he heard about the latest winner - that will give him the idea for Mike's "test"..
Sorry about the late review.

This was great.

I'm surprised Wonka didn't swear up a storm like Grandpa George did at Mike in the film.

I'm fairly certain the game Mike was playing in the film was "Doom 3", and on the XBox. This may not be true, though, as "Doom 3" was not released for the XBox until after filming was finished. Hmm, it's going to bug me...I'll look it up.

Huh. Apparently it was created specifically for the film. Okaaayyy...

You know, you raise a good point about Violet. The movie version was at least one of the better contenders of the non-Charlie ones. I never considered that. Of course, she pales in comparison to Charlie in terms of morals and humility. But when you look at the others, well, Augustus was a glutton, Veruca was greedy, and Mike was a violent little brat in the books, and in the movie, he was an arrogant know-it-all as well. Violet, if she was coached by Wonka, might have been a little better. If she was smarter and less impulsive and arrogant, she could have been decent competition for Charlie...barely...

That's pretty much how Violet would see the contest - something to be won, but no more than that. As long as she's better than everyone else she doesn't care. I can see Wonka being conflicted about her - she's competitive, which is important in his world, but competing is an obsession for her, at the expense of all the other qualities she will need.

I love the idea of getting so much of Wonka's perspective as his past is such a mystery, as is his private life, and I can just imagine him having a large collection of books and trying to expand his horizons all the time. It's in character for him to design the factory in such a way that he can come and go as he pleases - a world within a world where he can be himself. I also like the idea of a private gymnasium - an important feature considering he never goes outside yet wants to keep healthy.
Can't wait to see what he thinks of Violet!

Always a favorite and enjoying your POV.
Thank you for sharing.

Even though he has a TV room I can't really imagine Wonka watching telly on a regular basis and he would probably find a lot of it bland and boring. But it would be in character for him to watch the news reports to get some kind of insight into the children that will be coming to his factory, perhaps so he can plan their tests/traps better?...
It's also interesting that he doesn't think about the negative effects of his products, not because he enjoys making money from them but because he simply enjoys making chocolate.

I like the idea of getting Wonka's perspective on the weeks leading up to the tour. He's pragmatic and knows he can't do his job forever, but at the same time he's worried about the outcome and if the winning child will accept his offer. This could be a good story.

Will there be more chapters or is this a one shot? It’s an interesting thought process of Wonka’s mind before, during and after the tour

Good job so far, but you marked it as complete when you didn't even talk about the ticket winners yet!
