for Must Go On

Lovely - Ruth more confident now, still hesitant but determined to grasp the moment and move the relationship on to the next level.

Good for Ruth. She is so right to convince him to seize the opportunity. Wonderful chapter.

I love love love the opening of this chapter. Ruth's life before five being small, a prelude of things to come. Harry awakening something bigger in her. Ruth's thoughts about love and whether it can coexist with the lives they lead. It's so poignant and it's so Ruth. And she is absolutely right; if they wait to get the timing right they'll never get there. They have to *make" the time. For themselves, for happiness. And they do and it's so good I'm cry

Good for Ruth! Good for her to realize that she and Harry, as you write, "...could cling to each other and to their love and find their small corner of happiness in an otherwise cruel and unforgiving world." And good her to also be the one to be so forthright with her wishes "...to be happy tonight" even though Harry initially thought otherwise. Great chapter.

Some nice tender scenes with the dinner and afterwards going to bed with a barely discernible tip-toeing undercurrent. Good for Harry holding his tongue about 'decorator' but not holding back when complimenting her on her cooking. I think my favorite lines were R: "I was just thinking though that I may not be a pathetic excuse for a wife after all if I can use frozen pastry to make a halfway decent pie" followed by Harry's response: "I didn't ask you to marry me to so that you'd cook me dinner, you know."
The touch of humor concerning who sleeps on what side of the bed along with the description of Ruth's bedroom was an added treat.
Very much looking ahead for chapter 7.

Love the way they are slowly starting to get used to each other away from their work roles. So new, so hesitant, so lovely.

godddddd she's gonna be his WIFE and they're so sweet I'm cry. I love how even tho they're both a little lost they are so determined to give this a real shot, and even tho some moments have to be a little bumpy they aren't running away from each other. Just seeking shelter together, being comfortable together, letting themselves cross those lines bc they CAN now, they don't have to hold back anymore. It's just. They deserve this

Poor Harry. The first time he says he loves Ruth her response is "oh". Oh? No wonder the poor guy asks "Is that alright?" Come on, Ruth. Although, good job with making the pie for him, which seems to be just the immediate thing he needs right now.

"that's what people do, isn't it?" I'm just gonna start with this thought bc Ruth is trying SO hard but all of this is foreign to them, isn't it? Having someone to lean on, leaning on *each other* and not backing away. They're trying so hard to work this thing out but it's all so new. They have been alone for so long and now they don't have to be. This is just such a lovely soft look at how they make that happen; Ruth understanding Harry's need for vengeance, and not faulting him for it, Harry understanding her doubts and loving her anyway. They fit together so beautifully. And Ruth will never be a perfect little homemaker but Harry doesn't want her to be; he sees her trying to take care of him when no one has done that (no one but her) for so long and he loves her for it. Oh bless these little beans
