You hit on one of Tyrion's big flaws as a Hand here: he's a political manipulator, not a military strategist. He knows how to use, fear, hate, and symbols to control the flow of public thought, but his plans are political strategies and not military ones. His tactics at Blackwater were about controlling the way the enemy, and his own troops, maneuvered and thought as much as it was about the sound application of military force.

Similarly, his plans for Dany's invasion were political and symbolic maneuvers as opposed to sound military strategy. Yara used the same to control the North, she faced mostly psychological battles against the weakened Northmen. Heck, in the books she remarks on how Deepwood Motte was easy to take. Lightning raids and moral victories were about all she had to fight. Basically, she was a pirate and a raider but not a general.

Olenna, meanwhile, is a politician looking for revenge. Ellaria... gah, the show just ruined her, but she's a former adventurer looking for revenge as well.

Dany's problem in Westeros, at this time, was that she didn't have a Robert, Eddard, Robb, Jon, or a Stannis giving her the sound military advice she needed. She had people who knew about altering appearances and perceptions, like Renly did, instead of actually knowing how to command a campaign in a war. Kind of ironic when you think about it: Eddard and Robb Stark lost because they didn't truly understand politics, Tyrion, Olenna, Yara, and Ellaria lost because they didn't truly understand war.

Great chapter i love how Rickon's standing up to Sansa and enjoyed his talk with Davos and i love that he's sending Glover off to capture a white if i survives and successful it will have a large impact on the other lords. Love the meeting between Dany and Jon I wonder who will figure out the truth about Jon first Varys or Olenna. i hope that when Jon find out the truth he does not just give up his birthright to other people. I love how Jon spoke up during the meeting and dropped some truth on Dany and her people. I can't wait for Jon and Rhaegal to meet and Dany's and the others reaction to the meeting.
can't wait for more.

And so Jon has met his dragon and the dragon his rider (Not Danny) I can't wait to see their faces as they expect Jon to cry out when (Rhaegal?) lands next to him and he sings to Jon like a lost bird that has found it's other half and Jon simply strokes its snout.
I'm thinking LF needs to have an accident, taken for a short walk into the forest or find out how prey feels when a direwolf feeds... :)
Good thing about Lord Glover is he was never missed in either fight in the north and I'm guessing he'll still not be missed. I know Sansa is suffering from PTSD but she needs to get in step with her brother and cousin or go to Bear Island till things have concluded.
Keep safe and healthy.

I never noticed how the retaking Winterfell with wildlings paralleled Dany's army retaking Westeros, I love it! And gotta love Olenna, with that scratch on the back of her mind, veeeeeery close to realizing who Jon reminds her of, but also unbelievably far from the right conclusion lol Rhaegal should help, right? Btw, any chance of Maege and Galbart arriving on WF with Howland, or are you going with the show on them?

I really enjoy the idea of Jon in Dany's war council; I mean, he's actually the only one there with any real experience in that, since the ones that are closest to having that are the Greyjoys with their pillaging and Tyrion with Blackwater, which are really not the same as planning a conquest. May he save them from their stupidity!

Badass Rickon acting like a king, hell yeah! So, how long until Sansa realizes Jon wasn't the one to tell the boy of her giving up on him?

Great chapter, thanks for writing! Rickon is shaping up nicely. I like the ploy with Glover, two birds, one stone. The starks kept getting killed by betrayal, so perhaps getting some enemies out of the way may help? Is Sam going to play a part in this story?

This is an intriguing tale. It's refreshing to see Rickon as king, and also the influence that Jon has on him. It may have been foolish, but you have to love and respect Jon for riding after his brother because that is exactly who he is, and who we love. I look forward to reading more!

This version of Rickon is a badass, i love the fact that he is standing up for himself, and is making the decisions. His absolute brutalizing of Lord Glover had me smiling like a fool, and outright laughing at part of it. I am really looking forward to how he will deal with Littlefinger, because honestly his death in the show was one of the best points of the latter seasons. His character is so slimy, he just begs to be loathed, and the killed off in a most brutal way.

I also am really enjoying the interactions between Jon and Dany, and the fact that Olenna is acting as smart and crafty as I believe she would be. Using Jon to influence the war council away from absolutely foolish plans seems like the best course of action. What happens next in that situation should be very interesting.

I'm am loving this portrayal of Jon! The last part with the war council was amazing! I'm also a huge fan of how Rhaegal and Jon are starting to react to each other. Can't wait for that continue! Rickon is doing a fantastic job and he has definitely surrounded himself with some good advisors. I'm actually curious how Sansa and Littlefinger plan to undermine Rickon. The North isn't the South so they can't play the game the same way there and any Northern opposition Rickon could have I think has been diverted with how he dealt with Lord Glover. Honestly can't wait for more! Regarding what you said about the Last Dragon in your AN response to me I agree that everything that would happen is already known. I guess I was just interested in some more context. How did Jon get Drogon, how did the Arianne/Jon romance happen, what are the reactions of everyone to the invasion? Regardless I can't wait to read more of your works. I think at the moment this story and Winter King are tied as my favorites but I honestly love all your stories. Can't wait for more! Keep it up!
