for The Subsect

This is pretty cool that someone decided to write what the Subsect actually was. I've always wondered. I'm excited to read more.

WOW. Fantastic. You haven’t updated this story in YEARS but I sincerely hope you update again one day. I’ve read a lot of fanfic with varying degrees of understanding of Jess as a character, but this... this is Jess’ heart and soul poured onto the page. This is the essence of Jess. I absolutely love your writing. The tone, the mood. I love that I have to look up several vocab words and references in each chapter. It gives me a deeper appreciation for Jess’ intellect and love of words. A part of me hopes that you are too busy enjoying a flourishing writing career and that’s why you have no time to update this. This story can most definitely stand alone and be enjoyed by anyone, without any connection to GG at all. Also love your IG. You’re really going all in to create this world and I am HERE FOR IT! I might have to go harass you on IG as well to please, please finish this book one day. You’re incredibly talented. Thank you for writing this.

Ah, Jess and Blue and Blue senior meet. Glad that Jess annotated in Howl - to be expected. And, now, the loneliness has hit. Hope that he is able to better handled that in your story. Love your last sentence: blessless losers can take comfort . . . . you souls once knew love, true love. Very poetic. Very precise. Again, you totally capture my interest.

Your writing style, language, and tone totally mesmerize me. I am astonished with your clarity of young Jess and his harsh treatment by Liz simply sending him away (chapter 1). Your clarity about Luke and his mental and physical demise when his mother died, when his father got sick and died, when he KNEW that he would never get to go to college despite the offers, his "forever tie" to the Hollow and the hardware store turned diner shows a truly bare bones approach to Luke and his slow but sure acceptance of his now life. Luke's sense of responsibility and being utterly alone to bear his sorrow and his loneliness overwhelms me. He survived, and he primarily had to do it all on his own. And now, Jess sees that and realizes that. But, it is yet to be known if Jess respects all that Luke has had to endure on his own. Luke is trying to be helpful to Jess, to support him, and care for him. But, it doesn't seem that Jess is mature enough yet to acknowledge and respect Luke's love and kindness. And after all, all Jess has to go by is Liz - and Liz most certainly is NOT Luke. Your language and your verbal descriptions and literary references are fabulous. I so admire your writing skill. Okay, thanks so much and now I am on to chapter 3. Keep up the great work.

I found the first two chapters of this elsewhere on the interwebs, and was astounded and intrigued, and also left feeling bereft that there were only two chapters. I am beyond thrilled to see you continue! Most of the time I am left feeling rather underwhelmed and almost embarrassed by authors' attempts to write excerpts from the Subsect, and had almost decided that it was better left to the imagination, but yours is the first one I've found believable! Your evocative, impressionistic writing style and richly varied literary references lend themselves to a work that I can easily believe springing from the brilliant and well-read mind of Jess Mariano. Well done! I don't know who you are, but you are an extremely gifted writer. I'm so excited to finally see J's meeting with "Blue," as I was anxiously awaiting that moment!
