Glad to see you're updating again!
As a Xan Fan, I loved the story of him randomly rescuing elves with a touch of his typical doomsaying.
Also enjoyed Linn's cheery voice and amusing observations, as well as the more practical explanations/headcanon for those odd in-game things.

This is such a delightful read!

Just had to chuckle at the bosshammer and the Avenging Journal and its papercuts of vengeance. ;)

Haha ten Neeras in a bar. That's a lot of potential mayhem! :)

Great to read more of this story!

Minsc’s ALL CAPS introduction was great! Quite in keeping with the character. Though, I’m going to assume that Minsc is more in the high six-foot-something range, and Linn is being an unreliable narrator about him being over seven feet tall.

That wolf cloak! It seems really awesome, yet I never find a good use for it. I tend to give it to a spellcaster so they’ll have a way to melee effectively if enemies get close, then never remember to actually have them transform. Maybe next time I play through Baldur’s Gate I’ll make a note to actually *use* magic items. Also, somehow I picture Rasaad not wanting the cloak because he’d probably not want to take bites out of people and monsters.

And the image of Safana trying to flirt with Minsc and just being told “You too can have muscles like these, if you follow my Hero Training Regime!” was hilarious and perfect.

“I don’t know whether to be impressed or a little scared.” Yeah. Who’d have thought a hamster could do that? (I always kind of pictured it as Minsc *trying* to order his pet to sic ‘em during battle, and Boo never *literally* going for the eyes, though that does make for quite the image).

Your scenic description of hiking in the mountains was great, along with the punchline about getting rushed by dread wolves.

Nice to see another chapter, also one in Boo go for the eyes! Really nice interactions between the group, also that remind me how annoying can be the encounter with wolves.

Glad you will not stop, because I like your story. Best regards :D

Welcome back, Shoujo. I regret what happened in your life, although we know that death is always around us we never expect your visit and when this happens it is impossible not to grieve, so do not apologize for your absence.

Now that you're feeling better, it's time to get up and shake off the dust. Write and work as before and things slowly come back to normal. Perhaps writing about what you feel in fanfic is a way to make it richer and, above all, an easier way to grief.

I really enjoyed this chapter especially the complicity that you drew the strongest between Rasaad and his character and the vulnerability of Yeslic. I had never thought that even though he is a strong wielder the advancing age makes him more prone to disease and lessens his recovery time after the fighting. I think his glance at it made the story closer to the real.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter. :D
Great hug, Adriana.

The chapter title here was fantastic, as always.

And as someone who struggles a lot with insomnia, I loved the three successive can’t-get-to-sleep journal entries. Attempting to sleep, not being able to ‘cause your mind won’t stop racing, and it all degenerating into “Sod sod sod!” Perfect!

That was a genuinely beautiful moment between Lin and Rasaad. Wow. The line about it feeling as if ‘…the sky were falling and the stars were going out…’ was especially poignant.

D’awww! And, despite being a bard and all, Lin just can’t think of any good words. I’m continuing with my headcannon that Lin is, from an objective outsider’s perspective, is actually a really terrible bard, but wins us all over with the power of her awesome enthusiasm and heart, so who cares?

I like the image of Safana’s silly routine not being able to put a dent in Ajanatis. (Hm. I actually ended up writing Ajantis as gay, so that would work out especially well, but even if he fancies ladies I still picture him pulling a British palace guard routine when Safana does her very obvious thing. He’s wiser than he seems).

Damn. Really admire your selective and hilarious use of CAPS, bold text, and italics here. I’ve been reading a lot of comic books recently and it’s made me more aware and appreciative of all the fun that can be had from expressing things through creative fonts and lettering. Great job there!

Those darn flesh golems. A counter-intuitive trick I’ll always remember: the golems do blunt damage, and Potions of Absorption make you 50% immune to blunt damage. I always have the highest AC tank drink one of those before working their ways through that darn pirate cave, though even then the tank can end up getting hit hard.

For some reason I always give Imoen the Cloak of the Wolf (because turning into a wolf is awesome, Imoen seems like she’d appreciate that, and because she kind sucks at melee), then never remember to actually use it anywhere. It’s kind of a puzzling item.

Raasad always seems to be a super-stiff, robotic character, so I love the idea of him playing along with a [Charname] and Imoen’s campfire stories and fun. By their nature you kind of have to be restrictive with a lawful good character’s *actions,* but there’s really nothing restricting a lawful good character from joking around with their friends during some downtime, is there? Who says Raasad can’t have some fun?

And yeah…fireball is at the same time the best and worst spell, isn’t it? Also, even if you’re doing a *Hardcore Ironman!* playthough of Baldur’s Gate 1 I figure you need to reload if Imoen dies, considering what she turns out to be and how plot important it is (I guess you could also just throw her out at the beginning of the game, but I can’t imagine that. No matter what sort of [Charname I make, Imoen will always be their BFF, because Imoen’s just like that).

In any case: a great chapter as always!

The divide and conquer strategy! I should have thought of that! (In the Infinity Engine games I always concentrated fire on one enemy at a time, but having every viable fighter charge each archer so they can’t do the archer thing sounds like it would have been a better idea in some situations. Hm).

I’d argue that Safana is actually *not* an interesting character: she’s really one dimensional as presented in the base game (She’s super charming and flirty, and was a pirate at some point…and…that’s about it). Fanfiction is a great opportunity to give that sort of character a lot of depth, though, and it’s great what you’ve done with her so far, with Linn already looking up to her as an older lady mentor. And Safana will be great for that.

Nice job showing the horrifyingness of charm and other enchantment spells. And good luck in those flesh golem caves (I usually use lots of Potions of Absorption there, since the golems use blunt attacks).

Really loved this chapter. “A real honest to gods CANNON! How could we not fire it!” Indeed. Imoen and Linn are just adorable here. Reminds me a bit of my dad, who used to talk about really wanting to buy a replica cannon, just to play with, if he ever had the disposable income. If my dad had the money and time he would have blown a lot of holes into a lot of hillsides, just for fun.

Yeslick’s role as the responsible adult is perfect too.

(An aside: it seems like Forgotten Realms lore is a bit wishy-washy about whether or not gunpowder technology is or isn’t becoming widespread at this point in the timeline, and you can almost hear the Dungeon Masters/game designers in the background saying “On the one hand this is basically a Renaissance era society entering the age of sail, and canons are *really cool,* so they should totally have cannons. On the other hand platemail armor and swords are also *really cool* and gunpowder made them obsolete, so I feel conflicted!” But yeah, cannons are always fun!)

The busted up flute was funny too. “I studied the lute but came up one F short.” Just my headcannon, but I have this picture of Linn as an absolutely terrible who is always hitting sour notes and singing off-key and everything, but has an inspiring, self-determined Florence Foster Jenkins superpower that overcomes all of that and makes us cheer for her.

And “Of crags and cliffs, of ridges and ravines” was a great turn of phrase that really stood out to me. Ain’t it fun when you line up a few synonymious words and they really click all poetically like that?

I also really love the idea of Dungeons and Dragons adventuring parties writing their names and the date on the rocks at a popular camping sight. There’s something both hilarious and poignant about that sort of ancient graffiti and how modern folks might contribute to it, and how Imoen and Linn contributed to it: “SUCK IT ASSASSINS!” That was great!

This chapter was funny. I would like you to write a little more about her feelings about Rasaad and how she perceives his interest or not.

Esse capítulo ficou engra?ado. Eu gostaria que você escrevesse um pouco mais sobre os sentimentos dela sobre Rasaad e como ela percebe ou n?o o interesse dele.

Merry Christmas! :D

The chapter title made me laugh, and then I laughed even more at Linn using the word ‘wertle’ over and over smurf-style.

Yeah, a journal and that rainy coast don’t mix. It seems like magical waterproofing is a really big thing in the Forgotten Realms, what with all the magic people having spellbooks and such. Linn should look into that.

And that’s a really cool (if gruesome) detail there: making Shoal the Nerid’s killer-kiss drown the victim. Kind of a horror-story reverse-mouth-to-mouth-resuscitation deal. That really fits the theme of a deadly fae sea-monster.

(Man, I’ve always really hated the Shoal the Nerid quest. Probably because of that unescapable death thing. There really should be a ‘No, you’re not bloody kissing me obvious-magic-monster-lady! [Steps back and draws steel!]’ dialogue option. I mean, this is a world where succubuses exist, after all, so there’s a lot of precedent for trying to avoid kisses from mysterious magic ladies. You made the Shoal quest a bit more interesting though. Especially liked the “Luckily, I’d fought an ogre mage not a tenday ago” bit).

Other great lines included the bit about carrion crawlers apparently being beach hazards, and Linn’s big rant about the hilariously unnecessary sign. Such a great chapter.

Ooo! I really like the new cover image! Immy and [Charname] pose for the camera, while the rest of the party looks on incredulously. Perfect.

Speaking of: I liked the bonding scene with Imoen here in this chapter. I’d just been thinking that Imoen doesn’t seem to get a lot of ‘screentime’ in this fic compared to some of the other characters (they’re hard to juggle, aren’t they?) and bam: we get a nice Imoen moment.

And Viconia gives up on adventuring after about a week trudging in the accursed sunlight. Sounds about right.
