for StarFox 8: Reflections of Marcus McCloud

Take all the time you need my friend! I can only surmise the possible writer's block you have for this big of a story.

I'm glad you're giving Slippy and his spouse about as much equal reading time as the rest of the Star Fox couples. Other fictions by other authors make Slippy to be an underrated character by writing mostly about the other taller male characters. Or they make him a running joke as a sideplot in their stories. Good to see you give Slippy the respect he deserves as the other respectable Star Fox characters.

Kelly's reaction was typical for being told about something hard to believe, with prophecies, Locusts, Andross and such. Good thing she didn't put a call to the therapist yet haha. Given she's open minded of her and Fara's fathers being bisexual in life, it was no surprise for her to be accepting of the Krazoa spirit. I suppose it was a good thing Fara inherited this pacifying spirit instead of the vengeful one Andross holds. That may have spurred her to take revenge for her unborn child.

I can imagine Fox would have less admonishing words to Panther than to Andross. I don't believe Fox would have wholly accepted Panther's apology as truly sincere since it only happened after taking in a spirit. It's a good thing Fox and Andross are behind screens now. Things would likely turn ugly if they were in the same room.

I can believe Andross being in agreement with his Krazoa spirit in destroying the Locusts as a solution. His inhabitant must be one of the officials in power contrasting the outcast, pacifist spirit Fara is current sharing with Kelly. It's a solution, but just an aggressive one that still isn't in the wrong. Imo it should be considered in a push-come-to-shove solution if the judicial system decides that as the Locusts' fate. Still kind of scary for a brilliant scientist to be of the same mind and body as a vengeful spirit. The older team does seem to have better partiality to aggressiveness than the younger generation, so it's easy to be influenced.

I was wondering as a sideplot would this put the two generations at odds with each other because one team mainly favours revenge as per a vengeful Krazoan spirit, and the other team can be swayed with the rebel spirit's goal of having a jury decide the Locusts' fate? It would actually delay the plot longer than needed but it seems like a likely and interesting scenario that can happen. I would rather they try to destroy the Locusts so that Marcus can save the heartbreak of losing his kid(s) to them, but the Locusts somehow end up surviving so this sets up the need to prepare for the next generation's war. I'm not sure what will make the Locusts surrender peacefully without resorting to destruction at this time.

I love your nod to the scrapped Dinosaur Planet game! Sabre and Krystal as ancestors of Fox and Krystal work in this continuity, considering how technologically primitive they were compared to Star Fox generation. Krazoans having more depth in the beta game makes them realistic as species. For the most part they've been shown as technologically advanced, peace-keeping, corporeal entities that can in a way cheat death. Showing a dishonest and fallible side of their species attributes to their endangerment millenniums later. Just like there being decent people of each race, there are some couple crappy people as well. At least it shows they're not so Mary Sue as species go. That being said, good for Fox and the senior team for willingly taking them in separately but being wary of their possible actions/influences. I wonder if having multiple spirits in your body would permanently change your personality and thought process. Amanda might have been on to something about Krazoans possessing you like ghosts, but being subtly influential about it. Seems like a nice tradeoff for using such advanced technology from said race.

I'm just laughing at Farrah being present at two separate segments of this chapter. First with Marcus, then with Fox and Krystal many miles away. No matter what she claims, she is a Mary Sue. Funny enough, I thought her subtly mentioning Fara's misfortune to Fox and Krystal would make the latter ask Fara about her circumstance. Then Fara would realize that someone might have blabbed about her business. Afterwards Fara would get pissed with Farrah even if the latter tried to be discreet. More drama and annoyance woot! Thought this little domino effect was just 'stirring the pot' drama, and would teach Farrah a lesson in humility.

Panther got a Krazoa spirit! They're really influential in enlightening people's thought processes, aren't they? Kind of sad how Panther never truly got over his inferiority of losing Krystal to Fox until the spirit possessed him.

Fara's Krazoan spirit was physical proof in convincing her stepsister that she came to reconcile, not to exploit or cajole Kelly in some way. Even if the spirit stuck with Fara for a few years, he was like some spirit partner who connected with her on psychological, philosophical level. Reminds me of Yami Yugi from Yugioh. This also proves Fara isn't some detached killing machine who seldomly finds pleasure outside of work. Her successful reconciliation with Kelly also adds to her depth.

Noooo, how can Andross lose those beautiful eyes that accentuated his intimidation factor?! Stupid Garrick. Just kidding. I agree with the spirit that Andross has the potential to perpetuate his bloodline with his redemption in the Locust War. Hopefully his scions will be of a more benevolent nature and have more sanity and a stronger mind.

This Fara is a total 180 from the one I've been following in this series. I didn't expect her to say such animosity and urge to retaliate against Kyong. If I didn't know better, I thought she was OOC lol. I thought she was one of the manchildren in this chapter, including Wolf, Leon and Kyong. In another lifetime where things turned out slightly differently, I'm sure that stillborn child will be kicking butt. If she decides to let Kyong go with Tanya instead of getting physical closure, I'm hoping she can channel her anger and bitterness on fighting the locusts when she's emotionally ready.

Not going to lie that Wolf and Leon are like comic relief in this chapter. I can imagine how 'Harold and Kumar' they must be feeling like when Andross tells them about James and his spirit's possession. Andross yelling back at them makes him look like a manchild too or an incompetent parent. After Marcus and Fara's emotional conversation, this part of the chapter lightens the mood.

Seeing your own parent switch genders and become a completely different person is traumatizing. I feel bad for Kyong this way, but he needs to move forward. Just like Fara, he'll have to come to terms with his situation, but he'll be mentally inept at moving on compared to her. At best he should just cut his losses and go with Tanya for a fresh start at redemption. Try to restart his relationship with his dad, and settle down in another system.

Hey Kit, Felt I needed to leave a review today. I should preface this review by saying I found your reflection of series 4 years ago. I personally think this series is one of the greatest in this fandom and more people should read this whole series, Kay the review. I love these last 2 chapters and at the same time I hate em. I love them because you fore-shadowed this and it is still quite painful to hear that Marcus and Fara lost their first child so soon. It also makes both of them more fallible which in turn makes them more relatable. I hate these chapters, because their First Child is dead and we never got to see what they might have done. It hit me hard, (Hell I am tearing up as I am writing this mess of a review) I hope that the project I am working on can hope to hit as hard as your collection of stories. Keep up the Great work!

Well, I feel sad for Fara and Krystal. Rough stuff for the ladies in this chapter.

I hope the lack of a fetal heartbeat is a temporary setback! I feel very bad for Fara but I am somehow relieved at how emotional she is feeling with her bereavement. It proves she isn't this merciless, emotionless killing machine most cliche fiction make of super exceptional fighters. She is a human with the right to grieve and this chapter proves she is fallible like how we all are. Even in Reflections of Peppy when she meets Peppy after getting out of cryogenic stasis, I found she adapted too well and fast to the fighting environment and waking up 30 years in the future.

Interesting time traveling trip Krystal went on! So her physical body stayed in her original realm the whole time, even Fox stated she was out for two seconds. Since she was transported to another plane of her past and met her mother, did her physical body in present time copy whatever specifications her "past self" had when she was brought back into the present? I was wondering how that slip of paper traveled back in time with her. Was some energy of light keeping her present body up to date with everything she wore in the past, so that's why she had that slip of paper in her pocket?

So Krystal now has a spirit to keep her cancer-free (hopefully!) and to reunite the spirit with his brethren. I'm all for Krystal and Fox moving to Cerinia and helping reestablish Cerinian society with what they can do during their lifespan/generation. Their offspring(s) would be embracing the Cerinian side of life, which would be a neat juxtaposition to Marcus' Lylatian upbringing.

Interesting sequence of events had Fox interfered with his mom's death. Guess an imperial Corneria and subsequently the Locusts' conquest would be worse than letting his mom go. Makes me wonder for each person, would their truly loved ones or the whole world matter more? If they let the world go to hell then there wouldn't be a free world for their loved ones to enjoy. I imagine if whoever was tasked with saving the world hated it so much, they'd rather cling on to whoever was worth surviving regardless of consequences.

I'm rooting for you! Go and finish this and rest of your fanfiction!

I am fully supporting of my trans family and friends, of course they're human beings with as much rights as "cis" humans whom we're mainly surrounded by in society. I always found trans people were people born in the wrong body, with the mindset to be how masculine/effeminate they desire to be on a spectrum of whether or not they want to be considered bi/homosexual or trans. I know female acquaintances who consider themselves female but looked and acted manly; they consider themselves homosexual. There are others who did transition FTM but decided to keep their original name while considering themselves trans but straight. Sometimes I see girls with super short haircuts and refuse to wear skirts/effeminate wear who still consider themselves female and straight. Then there's a few who go by "they/it" with no definite M/F designation.

I'm still conflicted based on what gender they were born as, if they'd be considered their original gender by birthright, or if we should consider them the gender they want to be out of their wishes. I'm just thinking as a collective group, should a group of people refer to a trans as their original gender or their own designation.

I do agree on the view that trans people have this personal journey of discovering who they want to be while not being satisfied with their current body. If they go through their transition and are completely satisfied and happy with themselves and relationships, they've won!

Those that consider trans ppl to have a mental disease or corrupted genome of sorts are basically in denial of such a concept. Those people are mainly right-leaning on the social spectrum, so if going against whatever image you were shaped as at birth is blasphemous, then that's their opinion. If they don't open themselves to that other way of thinking, then that's on them for not understanding the mindset of people with equal rights as them. Maybe if Kyong connected with Tanya one last time, she'd be able to convince her son that despite cutting losses with him she was able to find herself or such. Even now I'm still a bit unsure to refer to Eric/Tanya by he/she.

troy here ,

Kyong is going to be so butt-hurt when he finds out his dad is now his second mom, or whichever capacity he interprets it as. His overblown personal vendetta against the McClouds is also in vain since his dad is still alive. I wonder if he'll be shocked and relieved that his dad is alive, but immediately feel anger and resentment for being abandoned and for transitioning because of possible opposing stance on trans rights. If he gets executed it'd be as dark as Lucy and Peppy not reconciling since he would never get the chance to get closure with his dad.

Wolf and Leon are such bros. I'm happy at how open-minded your iteration of Wolf is. Someone who is the antithesis of a scrupulous protagonist (Fox) normally seems narrow minded and opposed to the lighter and sensitive topics of humanity. He supports trans rights because of gradually accepting his daughter's sexual orientation? Much respect for that. Its funny how older people either become more accepting of progressive thinking or become firm rooted in their conformed-to ways. Cool how Wolf is of the former mindset. All this time I still don't understand Leon's ongoing grudge against Falco. It's been decades since the Lylat Wars so let bygones be bygones. Leon needs a boy/girlfriend!

Fox and Krystal are always bae. I've been enjoying all their dialogue these past two chapters. I'd love if you'd write more fluffy oneshots/deep convos between them if you are interested or have time. People walking nude through their own homes is such a common thing til kids come in, and becomes a thing again once it's just grown adults in the home. Some female friends of mine apologize profusely for not even wearing a bra when they answer the doorbell for me, but I'm not judging hahaha. I love snarky Fox and Krystal. ( ? ?? ?)

So much intelligent and introspective Fox and Krystal OTP discussion in this chapter! What hit home was how Fox said he was in better shape in his fifties as opposed to his twenties. It made me wonder if having kids influenced making better choices as an example for his family while also improving himself for the better. In his twenties he had no kids or a partner to go home too so there was no incentive for self-improvement. I was wondering if males stayed single in their 40's and 50's with grown up or no small children, would they be in significantly worse shape than if they even had a partner or child to raise?

As a male growing older I find fascinating how I used to eat lots of red meat and junk food as a teen with no worries of consequences. Now being roughly a quarter century year old and traveling a bit, I've been more open to expanding my palate to more exotic cuisine. On a mental note, I've been naturally eating more chicken and gradually forsaking beef and other old teen eating habits. Just thinking about doing that from ten years ago already makes me feel queasy. If not for a partner or an offspring, then what triggers the change in improving myself and/or trying new lifestyles? Am I bored with my current lifestyle or do I just want to feel good about improving myself? I'm just curious in the next decade as long as I don't fall into a rut or depression, what new fad or improvement I'll embark on. I'd like to attribute it to the male's brain growing even at around 35, but I know guys in their 50's with a happy wife and successful grown kids who still want to eagerly open their world and thoughts more than they did before.

I guess I'll stop rambling now. I love your introspective conversations between your characters as always!

I'll review a bit for chapter 42 and mostly for chapter 43.

Reading about Farrah's observations on who'd beat who in a fight reminded me of DB's power level system in a way. It's so geeky describing each person's competency in a fistfight or dogfight, but interesting. Anyone with telepathic abilities is just too OP to be compared with unless the other fighter knows how to fight the telepath without telegraphing movements.

Hurrah, the original James MC lives! How long is he expected to live now? Without the spirit to immunize him to pain, would this affect his body to start feeling normal people pains and his lifespan? It's dark that he lost his second wife and unborn child at childbirth. Fox would've had another sibling, but I'd wonder what some fox/dolphin-ish hybrid would look like. I hope this James sticks around for a long time, because it is so cool reading about him as someone watching over from faraway in another dimension. He's a cool character too.

Here's to Andross gaining repentance for his sins in some parts of his life. I wonder how his thought process will gradually be affected. He better wear sunglasses too to cover those awesome eyes but he probably wouldn't want to be following James' footsteps in that regard lol. On a second thought, his eyes may just be enough to show how much of a force and better charismatic leader he is, so maybe he'd scare off Anezka with those eyes or something.

OMG, I never would've guessed that James McCloud is still alive!

if marcus got a brother or a sister, i wonder what will their name be.

in actual fact, if he really got a younger brother or sister, i say should have a "poll" to decide their name.

Okay, when Farrah said "Now you're playing with power!", I'm pretty sure she was making a reference to the old Nintendo commercials, when they said that. And are Fox and Krystal really gonna have another kid? Wow!
