Chapter 6 - Why Are You Here?

"What's wrong?" Mizuki pouted when she saw Gil's look of disappointment. He asked her what she liked to do outside of school, so she brought him to a place she frequented. What she didn't expect was for him to give her that face of not wanting to be there.

"Nothing…you brought me to the arcade?" he smirked as she pulled him over the DDR.

"Come on Gil, let's play!"

"You know you're gunna win, so why should I even bother?"

"Because it's fun, you know you want to play…Please?" she asked with the biggest puppy dog eyes he's ever seen.

"Ok, fine." He said unable to resist those eyes, especially on her.

After they started, the small crowd that watched them kept growing and growing until everyone in the arcade stopped what they were doing just to watch Mizuki kick ass at the dance game. The crowd started cheering as Mizuki got yet another perfect score whereas Gil got a less than perfect (wait scratch that) a down right sucky score. Sweaty and tired Mizuki looked around at all of the people cheering and only one person stood out.

"Kayashima, what are you doing here?" Her friend pushed through the crowd until he was next to the dance machine so that he could talk to her.

"Well Sano's spazzing out looking for you, so I decided that I'd help him. I sensed your aura and followed it here."

"Oh, ok, well you didn't have to. I'm here with Gil. He doesn't have to work today, so I decided to show him around. So if you see Sano, tell him to relax and that I'm in good hands, I swear." Mizuki started to turn back around for the next round of dancing when Kayashima's words stopped her in her tracks.

"I could, but wouldn't it be easier for you to tell him yourself?" Scared of what his statement really meant, Mizuki slowly faced him again, hoping that he wasn't about to tell her the news that she didn't want to hear.

"What are you talking about? Can you call him with your powers or something?" she asked innocently laughing, hoping that it was all just a joke.

"Turn around." He chuckled as he thought about what goes on in her mind to make her so clueless sometimes. Doing what she was told, she was soon face to face with the one guy she didn't want to deal with right now. Shock became evident on her face as she realized that she was caught and would probably receive a scolding for how she left this morning. Definitely not what she wanted to be doing on her day off.

"Sano, what are you doing here?" Sano ignored her question and grabbed her wrist, walking her towards the arcade exit. Seeing her missing this morning put him in a foul mood, and he was going to make sure that she knew that.

"Come with me for a sec. I've got to talk to you, in private." Mizuki gave Gil a pleading look, but knew that she couldn't talk her way out of not talking to her upset roommate.

"Um ok, Gil I'll be right back."

"K. I'll be here." Gil said with a devilish grin.

"Hmmm so Sano does see me as his rival. This will be interesting, but I'm still wondering about that aura kid. Does Mizuki really believe that crap? I guess I'll ask her later."

(Sano and Mizuki)

Once they were out of sight and hearing range from their friends, Mizuki tried her question again. "Ok, so again, what are you doing here?" It was then that Sano realized how foolish he must've looked, pulling the poor girl out of the building like that. How was he going to rationally explain this one to her? It seems that recently all they've been doing is fighting with each other. Why couldn't Mizuki see how much of a creep Gil is? If she did, then Sano wouldn't be running all over town looking for her! Couldn't she understand how vulnerable she is? Gods, why does she have to be so stubborn!?

"Ummm I was…worried." Sano blushed, knowing how pathetic he sounded to the unsuspecting girl.

"About me?"

"Yea about you. Who else would I be worried about?" How absentminded was she!?

"Well I didn't know, maybe Kayashima since he was here by himself and all. Plus since our fight, I tried to give you time to cool off, so you wouldn't get even madder at me." She said lowering her head in shame.

"How can I stay mad, especially at you?" he said as he took his slender yet strong fingers and lifted Mizuki's chin up so she was looking at him. "I never should have gotten mad in the first place. I was overreacting and had no right to yell. There's something about him that makes my instincts tell me to keep an eye on him, especially around you."

As Mizuki took in all of what Sano said, she took her small hands and grabbed his wrists. Sano was taken back by her actions, but he just silently stared into her eyes, waiting for her to speak. Finally Mizuki tightened her grip and Sano's wrists, which made him snap out of his dazed state.

"I know that you're worried and I'm grateful for it, really, but please relax a little and trust me. I know that Gil wouldn't do anything to hurt me, but if he does, I swear I'll allow you to kick his ass, ok?" Mizuki looked up at her crush and grinned, hoping that was enough to quell his plaguing thoughts.

Still not completely convinced of Gil's innocence, Sano requested one more line of defense for his space head friend. "Ok, but you have to tell me if he tries anything too."

"Sano that's ridiculous, Gil's not gay!" she chuckled at his weird response, hoping that he didn't figure out her true gender.

"That's not what I-"

"Hey Mizuki, I'm sorry to interrupt, but Shi-zu is on the phone and he wants to talk to you." Gil stepped into their line of sight holding up his cell phone with Shizuki's name flashing on the front screen.

"Ok, I'll be there in a minute."

"K, I'll let him know" Gil winked as he walked back inside. All Sano could do was stare and then give Gil a less than friendly glare as he disappeared behind the big, red arcade doors.

"Heh, that was fun. I guess driving Sano crazy won't be that hard after all." Gil chuckled to himself and turned off his phone, closing out the fake phone call he used to lure Mizuki back inside and away from that Japanese wannabe.

Back outside, Sano was internally fuming. "What the hell is that guy's problem? I know he's just trying to get a rise out of me, but I'm not going to let him get to me. I will NOT lose the girl I love to that American jackass!"

Mizuki watched Sano's contorted face as if he was having a mental battle with himself. "Hey, you ok Sano?"

Forgetting that the close proximity gave away his emotions to Mizuki, Sano tried to forget the inner demon and use the rest of his precious alone time to his advantage. "Huh, oh yea I'm fine."

"O ok, so what were you saying?"

"Uh never mind…" Sano had completely lost his train of thought, focusing on what he wanted to do with his little crossdresser.

"O-ok, I guess I'll talk to you later then." As Mizuki turned to leave, Sano grabbed her by her waist and spun her around so she was facing him.

"Don't go…"
