CHAPTER 1

THE ASSASSIN

The day was bright and sunny. The wind was blowing gently and the whole of Tokyo seemed to be busy. Among the busy people walking on the street, there was a man heading towards a browsing centre. He was tall, with muscular built, and was around the age of seventeen. Reaching down his waist was his long silvery mane, which shone brightly under the sun. He was wearing a baby blue coat over a black formal shirt and had a pair of black shades covering his baby blue eyes. The formal black pants and shoes complimented his long legs as he briskly walked through the crowd. Even the Greek goddess of beauty-Aphrodite, would think twice before claiming the title of the most beautiful, against him. Ignoring all the attention that he was receiving, he walked into the browsing centre.

"I was waiting for you," Said a man in his mid-forties with grizzly hair, "Tokiya Mikagami." He was wearing a simple white cotton shirt and a pair of blue jeans. His pale skin showed signs of aging; however, his eyes could bore into a person's soul. They shone of wisdom and spoke of man with a deep history.

Tokiya merely nodded and sat down on the chair in front of the elder man.

"This time you have an assignment from a poor section of this city." Tokiya's companion spoke softly in a deep voice as he placed a file on the table in between them. Tokiya picked up the file and opened it to browse its content.

"They want you to take care of him." The older man paused as he took his spectacles off his nose, "The name is David Omega," he continued as he wiped his spectacles with a cloth, "the owner of the multinational construction company – Omega. He is trying to buy the land of our clients forcibly to open a factory. They tried appealing to the police and court, but, the law turned a blind side towards them. We both know how the rich can bend law to suit their interests."

He placed his spectacle on his nose and looked at the young man in front of him, "They are willing to pay you 500, 000 for this job."

Mikagami picked up the photo with an expressionless face, "The money, Amiya, is not worth this job." His voice was static, yet cold.

"Yes, I know it is less. But, they are poor and need our help…"

Amiya was interrupted by Mikagami, "As I said, the money isn't worth the job. In fact, it is too much. Give back half of the money," Tokiya took one last look at the picture of his next victim and closed the file, "I will finish the job by sunset." Tokiya got up and walked towards the door.

"Are you sure?" Amiya smiled as he inquired even though he knew what Tokiya's reply would be.

Tokiya caught the knob and paused, "Yes, I shall take my leave now." And with that Tokiya walked out of the door while closing the door behind.

A silver Audi entered the underground parking lot of the tall building of Omega Constructions-the multinational company's main branch. Out of it, stepped a man in his thirties- David Omega, a tall Caucasian man and a business tycoon, who had built his company from scratch in Japan after running away from South Africa. His cold and calculating business nature sent chills through the spine of most businessmen.

He walked out of the elevator and strode into his room. Just when he did, he heard a knock on his door. "Come in," David said with a cold voice as he sat down on his black leather recliner.

"Good morning, sir." A young blonde girl stepped inside the room, "I have a mail for you." She left an envelope on his table and bowed before walking out of the room.

David stared at the plain white envelope for a few seconds and then leaned forward to pick it up. He opened the letter kept inside the envelope with disinterest.

You will be dead by sunset.

David snorted at the letter and threw it into the dustbin after crumpling it. Not only was the letter outrageously lame, it was also written by pasting letters from newspapers. Besides, for a man of his fame and accomplishments, getting death threats wasn't such a big a deal. After-all, you don't climb at the top of the ladder without making some enemies, right?

David nonchalantly turned his computer on to browse through his mails, only to see that his computer was already on and his usual login screen was replaced with the same death threat that he had received in the envelope. Now worry rushed into his nervous system as he furrowed his eyebrows in frustration trying to get rid of the screen.

This was a huge problem.

His computer was not only hacked; the hacker had rendered it completely useless. He could no longer access his files, data or anything for the matter. What fazed him most was that his computer is always disconnected from any form of external network. There was no way a person from outside could have hacked it, this was an inside job. The hacker had to have visited his office to pull out this stunt. David was taken aback, slightly, and knew now he shouldn't ignore this. He reached for his cell phone, just when it started to vibrate. 'Strange. The number is blocked.' He accepted the call and placed it on his ears, "Hello, this is David Omega speaking."

"You will be dead by sunset." A cold and deadly voice spoke through the phone and then it got disconnected. For the first time in many years, Mr Omega felt threatened. This cell number was his personal one and a very limited number of people knew it. Immediately, he called the police commissioner, however, the line failed to connect. "Damn," he slammed the phone back and then quickly walked out of his room. If the hacker had come to this building, the cameras must have captured him.

He quickly walked out of his cabin, while trying to connect to the police commissioner, but to no avail. A soft curse left his lips as he entered the security room, startling the poor security man. " sir, how can I help you?" The timid security man asked politely confused over the visit from the CEO of the company he works for. "Did anyone come to my office last night?" asked impatiently. The security quickly took out the registry, but shook his hand in protest, "Forget about the log. Check the cameras."

The security nodded his head and sat on the chair to replay the recordings from of the systems. "Look through it all and mail me the details if you see anything suspicious." Mr. David instructed sternly.

"Yes, sir. I will mail it to you." The security immediately dove all his attention to the screen.

"Meanwhile, I am going to the Police Commissioner." He mumbled to himself and he exited the security room, "What am I paying that pig for?" He silently cursed under his breath and he dialled the number again.

He left the building and went inside his car. Sweat was pouring down his forehead. His guts told him that he was in trouble and for some reason that voice had really got to him.

"Where to sir?" His driver asked.

"To the police station." He replied, while wiping away the sweat with his handkerchief.

The car started and was now in the main road, when again a ring was heard in his cell phone, "H-hello?"

He nervously, accepted the call, 'That man again?'

"Is this Mr Omega?" came a calm and friendly voice. Mr Omega sighed in relief. "Yes."

"I'm Takumi Fujiwara from the crime investigation branch. I am currently investigating a serial killer who kills his victims after sending weird mails and a phone call. Usually his message threatens to kill his victims by sunset. My sources tell that you might be the next victim. Have you received such threats?"

Mr Omega was surprised and at the same time, relieved, "Yes, I did actually…"

"Then, sir, don't waste any time. Where are you right now?" The man on the other end of the line inquired in a serious tone.

"I am in my car, heading towards the police station to meet the commissioner." He peeked out to see his exact location, "I just left my office, near the Downtown Mélange."

"What? How stupid can you get?" The voice spoke with urgency that irked Omega, "The police station is very far away from there. You have just made it easier for the killer. Please stop the car in front of Lifestyle Supershop and blend into the crowd. I will be there in a minute." The phone disconnected.

David frowned for a minute and then redialled the commissioner, only this time, the commissioner did reply, "Hello ."

"What the hell am I paying you for Yamagami?!" David spoke in a harsh, but hushed tone, " Why did it take so long for you to pick up my call?"

"I am so-"

"I don't want to hear your excuses," David cut impatiently, "I just received a death threat and someone from your crime investigation branch had called me informing that it is by a serial killer who threatens his victims through mails and calls, and they usually wind up dead by sunset." David paused to verify if this Fujiwara guy was really who he said he was.

"Yes, sir. Takumi Fujiwara is on that case and had informed me about his suspicions. I believe he contacted you?"

"Yes, the very same chap." David confirmed, while he relaxed upon confirming that the call was legit.

"You should listen to him, sir. He is our finest, and he will keep you safe. I personally guarantee his skills." The commissioner spoke humbly to his benefactor, "We shall have a secured facility ready for you while you meet him at the pick-up point."

"You had better." David spoke warningly, "Very well. I shall meet him at the point he has asked me to come." He hung up.

David Omega did as he was instructed to do, as he quickly slipped a carbon fibre 22 calibre gun into the hidden compartment of his Armani suite.

"Mr Omega!" A voice came from the crowd right behind him, "Please don't look back. I am Fujiwara, please check my badge."

David stealthily opened his palm for Fujiwara to slip his badge to him. Satisfied after seeing the badge, David handed back the badge discreetly to Fujiwara, who was walking behind him in the crowd.

"I am here as per your instruction," David spoke softly, "Now what?"

"There is a sky blue Toyota Yaris, plate number 6235, parked just 1 block away in the parking area. I shall meet you inside."

David scanned the parking lot and spotted the car. He quickly opened the front seat door and sat inside only to see a young man in a brown suit with black hair waiting for him in the car at the steering wheel. He recognized him immediately from the police badge photo.

"Fujiwara, what now?"

"We first get out of here and head towards your safe house." Fujiwara replied and he drove the car out of the parking lot and into the traffic.

The car headed for a lonely spot, which David was unaware of. "Mr Fujiwara, do you know who exactly is trying to kill me?"

"Yes."

David got impatient and looked at the man driving, "Well, who is it then?"

Takumi Fujiwara stopped the car and faced him with a gun pointing at David's head, "Me."
