JUNE 2018: I was talking to a friend, and he asked about my favorite anime. I went on a long rant about how it's Wolf's Rain, I even looked up BlueXHige music videos for him to watch (and re watched the series with him) and it just reminded me of how I love it, and how this story was so close to my heart. I know it's been almost 10 years since I last updated...so my readers all probably adults with no desire to read this...but I just want to finish it. For me, for anyone that ever liked it, for the characters, and so, my summer project begins…

I am re-reading this and will probably be re-writing some aspects, but not the whole story as I don't want it to be a completely different story than what it was originally meant to be, though unfortunately I did change out some characters, so my OC no longer exists, as I always prefer using actual characters, though I was proud that most readers seemed to like her. Anyway... (Bye Sassy Cassandra!)

JULY 2018: I'm not gonna lie, It's been rough-but so much fun! Previous chapters have been edited/rebooted, and the plan is to update every Monday until our story comes to a close. Enjoy 3

Chapter 1

It was the picture of tragedy. Two young men sitting next to each other, obviously heart broken, struggling with what life had given them. At 14 years old, Tsume had never had to deal with death before. He didn't have friends, or family, or even acquaintances that had died on him. Until now. It didn't make sense, in his head, that his parents were dead. It wasn't right. It had to be a dream, because he couldn't imagine life without them. He didn't want to live in a world without them.

"Tsume?" Kiba, his younger brother, who had just turned 13 years old a few weeks ago, startled him from his dark thoughts. He had to get through this, for them.

Tsume nodded slightly, and even though it wasn't the best form of acknowledgment, kiba went on, "What are we going to do?"

It was a fair question, one that Tsume wished he knew the answer to, but the truth was, he felt like a was a child wasn't he? No. Not anymore.

Tsume turned to his younger brother, and he didn't recognize him. Kiba always had a plan, and a drive; he knew what he wanted and went for it. He was patient and wise...but now, he just saw a lost soul.

"...I don't know" Tsume finally answered, looking away. He couldn't stand to see the lost boy.

"...What's going to happen to us?"

"I don't know" Tsume repeated, with an edge to his voice. He hoped Kiba would get the hint- he didn't want to talk.

"What about Hige, and Toboe? Do you think we'll be separated?"

Tsume glared at his brother, clearly the 13 year old didn't understand that Tsume didn't want to think about it.

"I said, I don't know!" He growled out, but regretted it immediately when he saw the quiet hurt on his brother's face.

Kiba looked up at his older brother, and was stunned, because for the first time ever, Tsume looked afraid, and that's when Kiba knew that he had to grow up too.

"I do know this" Tsume declared as his eyes found a vase to glare at. "We're in this together"

Kiba nodded. Yes, they were in it together.

5 years later

" I don't want breakfast, I need breakfast" A 14 year old boy with messy hair groaned as he walked into a small kitchen and plopped himself down on a kitchen stool. There was a fruit basket in the middle of the counter, with one sketchy looking banana. Gross.

"Well, start being a functioning human, and make yourself something. I'm leaving, and Tsume and Toboe are already gone" Kiba answered, annoyed that Toboe, his youngest brother, could survive on his own much easier than Hige.

"who's going to take me to school?" He whined, and was aware that his brother winced in annoyance.

"Your bike?" The older boy suggested as he took his keys off the counter

and headed toward the door.

"I don't have a bike!" Hige yelled even though Kiba was already out the door.

"Oh don't worry Hige!" He muttered to himself, mockingly imitating his brother's voice. "I'LL take you to school, I mean I do have a car and all"

"Stupid Kiba"

Toboe, the sweet 12 year old boy, sat down quietly. He was upset by the message of the white board, but didn't know how to express it. He had forgotten about the class field trip. He had been looking forward to it all week, but Tsume had gotten home late every night, and he'd forgotten to ask him to sign the permission slip.

"This is the worst" Toboe groaned to motives weren't exactly altruistic, he had wanted to spend more time with Leara, a quiet, and beautiful girl he'd talked to once. She was in Ms. Smith's second period class, while he was in her first period class. All the English classes were going to the play together, but now he'd have to stay behind.

"Alright kids" Ms. Smith began, clapping her hands loudly to get the attention of the rowdy 7th graders.

"Everyone who has their permission slip, line up, we'll meet up with the rest of the students at the front of the school. If you're not going, just stay in your chair. Mrs. Van will be staying behind with you."

Toboe groaned as he sank into his chair. Everyone in the room, was lining up, except him and Shelly. Shelly was the sweet and spacey girl, who always smelled bad and whose parents were rumored to be abusive. Great.

He took a deep breath, and tried not to let it bother him. She was the one with abusive parents, and he was the one with the dead ones. It didn't seem very fair.

"Excuse me?" A girl's voice came from the doorway.

Toboe, Shelly and Mrs. Van looked up; all three smiled. There, in the doorway, was a beautiful young girl.

"I forgot my permission slip, is this where…"

"You're in the right place, Leara, go ahead and pick a seat."
