"In late 19th century England, a boy with a dark past was destined to perish by the hands of a demon.

This boy was named Ciel Phantomhive, son of Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive, the next heir. When his parents died in an unfortunate fire, the boy survived, but was kidnapped by members of a cult. As they tormented and abused him, he had a moment of extreme despair and lack of faith. This hatred summoned a supernatural presence. The boy was offered the opportunity to take revenge on those who murdered his parents. Eager for vengeance, "Ciel" agreed without hesitation. From then on, his life had taken a strange turn."

She wandered around the bookstore's non-fiction section for an hour, glossing over the beginning of the book. The topic of revenge intriguing and unethical, how could she put the book down?

The novel she held was a massively thick book entitled Aristocratic Oaths Broken, recently published by UK's Labor and Labor. The author was a Jackson U. Ferrier.

From afar, a large, sweaty grasshopper with coke-bottle glasses stood across from her, sweeping the floor. When the creature approached her, the girl's pointy ears twitched violently and she stopped reading.

"Um, you gonna buy that book or something?" He asked.

She waved. "Oh, I'm sorry. Yes. How much is it?"

The grasshopper noticed the cover, quickly chirped and said,

"Wait. I know about that one. Strange guy who wrote it. He looked human!"

He shook his head, smiling. "I wouldn't read such trash."

She chuckled and said, "I'll take my chances. Who would pass up a book by a human of all creatures?"

The grasshopper shrugged and said, "Well, good luck with that, girl."

The girl's name was Jazmint Tacibello or "Jaz" as she preferred to be called. After she paid for the book, she waited for the elevated train to pull up, flashed her travel pass, and bolted for an empty seat. When the hover train reached ground level, she hopped off and called for a carriage. It rode along the rickety streets of her second homeland called Maven Haven.

Now allow me to take a moment and properly introduce myself. I am Hocus Holiday, the spirit that watches over Jaz! Typically, I simply do my job and speak of what goes on from time to time. Humans tend to be interested in these types of adventures, so I've made an effort to document the escapades the girl gets herself into. Since you are new to the land of Holiday, Maven Haven, and its magical creatures, I won't give you the rundown. Instead, I'll leave you some clues in my recounting of this tale.

Jaz took her skeleton key and opened a nearby door. She arrived from Maven Haven to her bedroom in Closelov Village. The village was a small community of elven farmers and business owners that made homes in tree houses. On her bed, she found a squelch rat that lounged on the bed. The rat watched his favorite episodes on a small television, flicking back and forth between a soap opera and a cooking show.

Both were terrible in case you're curious.

Jaz set her bag of books on her floor and added each to her library collection, except for Aristocratic Oaths Broken.

"Hey, babe. How was shopping?" The squelch rat asked.

"It went about as expected. I can never find what I'm looking for, yet I always end up with too many things." Jaz said.

"Them's the breaks when you're in Maven. Hey, fetch me a smoothie while you're up." He said.

Jaz took the remote out of his paw and turned off the TV. "Time's up, Ace. We have to get you back to the Witches Den, and I need to clean up my room before grandma and gramps get back."

Jaz put the remote on top of the television, and was about to use her skeleton key in the door when she heard a crash.

She stopped. "What was that?"

"An excuse to have more TV time. Let's go!" Ace said.

"Shush! That didn't sound like my grandparents. I think it was the door that fell down."

Clang! Creak! She heard a clanging sound, and what sounded like something scraping against the wooden floor.

"So...no TV?" Ace asked.

"Would you get a grip? There could be a burglar in here!"

"Well excuse me! I was in the middle of one of my favorite soaps. Krennis Magna was just about to confess to Luo Hawkbeard about the affair and-

Jaz ignored Ace and placed her key in the keyhole, but when she turned it, it wouldn't move in either direction.

"Who's there?" A voice from outside asked.

Jaz grabbed Ace and slid to the side of the door; she crouched and waited for whoever it was to open the door.

The door opened to reveal…
