Chapter 11

They returned to Central City later that afternoon and DG was not looking forward to facing the Queen. Her mother would only lecture her on how it wasn't proper for a princess to run away and what not. Her mother just didn't get it. She had not had an unrequited love so had never had the need to get away to think. They walked into the palace after a moment and they came face to face with the Royal Couple.

"DG! My Angel! Are you alright?" her mother cried as she embraced her.

That had not been the response she had been expecting. She merely nodded and that was when her mother caught sight of ring that graced her youngest daughter's left hand. "DG?"

DG caught the question in her mother's voice and noticed her mother looking at her left ring finger. She had the grace to blush but she didn't try to hide her hand from view.

"DG, do I even want to know?"

"Yes, you will want to know. Because no matter who you try to pair me up with it will not work as the OZ has seen fit to marry me to my soul mate."

The queen sat understanding suddenly what her daughter was telling her. She had not wanted to see the similarities between DG's and Dorothy's adventures until recently. "You are Soul Paired are you not?" she asked looking at the ring again.

"Yes, Mother."

"May I ask who?" though she had an idea as to whom the OZ had paired her daughter with.

DG looked between her mother and father and then glanced back to her husband. She smiled and then answered, "I think you know mother, though if you must know, it's Wyatt Cain who is my Soul Paired mate. We want you to know that we also plan to have a ceremony too."

The queen nodded having already guessed that the ex Tin Man was her daughter's mate. She had seen the looks the two of them gave to the other when they thought the other was not looking. She was glad that they had found each other. The last Royal Soul Pair had been their ancestor. And despite DG's accusation, she had no say in who her daughters married. The first Dorothy Gale had made sure that all royal princesses could marry whomever they wished whether they be noble or commoner. She herself had married a slipper so she couldn't exactly begrudge her daughter's chose of husband.

"Do you know when you would like to have the ceremony, my Angel?"

"No, but we do know that we want it to be family and close friends only. Neither of us wants the pomp of a big royal wedding. We just want something simple."

"But..."

"Your Majesty, if I may be so bold, DG and I really don't want the big fancy wedding as we are already wed. We just want our family and close friends to see us married in the

traditional since," Cain said addressing the royal pair.

"I understand but Mr. Cain, she is a Princess of the Realm and deserves to have the wedding she wishes to have..."

"Yes and she wants a simple ceremony with only you, the Consort, Jeb, her sister, Glitch and Raw present. You said yourself that she deserves the wedding she wants and that is what she wants."

The queen looked between her daughter and the man the OZ had married her too. She knew it was futile to argue the point seeing as they were already married but she had

dreamed of her daughter's wedding day and simple had no part in it. But she also knew that she would do anything to see her daughter happy and if a simple wedding would do that then that is what she would do. She nodded in acceptance before beginning the lecture that DG had been dreading.

"Now, DG, do you have any idea how worried we were when you just up and disappeared? How frantic it made all of us?"

DG could only nod. She knew.

"Why then?"

"Mother, you wouldn't understand why I had to get away from here. You never had to deal with the man you had fallen in love with not loving you back! Nor do you understand that you have thrust me back into a life I don't remember living! You forced me to give up everything I have ever known and dress in the way you think is appropriate for a princess! Did you ever once ask me what I wanted?" DG yelled having finally snapped.

"But dear, it isn't appropriate for a woman to wear pants, even if you do find them more comfortable to wear. I understand that we forced you to give up the life you once had but you have to understand you were born here. You have responsibility here. You my Angel, will be the next Queen, as your sister has given up that right. I know that this is a lot for you to adjust to and I am sorry that you felt the need to leave but don't you think that it would have been the wiser decision to just talk it out instead of leaving?"

DG knew her mother was right it would have been wiser to stay and talk it out with Cain, even he had said as much, but she still had needed answers that only one person could give her. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

After her mother had finished her lecture she asked if it would be alright if she went to her room as she was tired. The queen dismissed them and DG walked to her room alone, her head trying to wrap itself around everything that had happened to her in the past three days. She just couldn't believe that she was now a married woman. She stopped just inside her chamber and tried to come to terms with that thought. Then she thought about what to do about her sister and Jeb. When she could not come up with anything she shrugged and then decided that she would ask Wyatt later. She undressed and climbed into bed falling asleep before her head even hit the pillow.

That was how Cain found her a few hours later. He paused by her bed and just stared down at her. He himself couldn't believe that after dreaming of her as his, she actually was now. He took off his duster and laid it on the chest at the end of her bed then removed his gun belt and then the rest of his clothing before climbing in behind her. He needed to hold her. Had to hold her just so that he could actually start to believe that she was now his. Kissing her exposed shoulder he pulled her closer before succumbing to sleep as well.

The following morning they awoke in each others arms. Neither said anything as they allowed themselves the few moments of silence just to observe the other.

"Morning, Sweetheart," he finally said brushing a stray hair off her check and back behind her ear.

"Morning," she answered softly. "Do we really have to get up?" she asked after a moment of contemplation.

"Afraid so, kid," he said with affection.

At the nickname she bristled and then asked, "Why do you continue to call me that? You and I both know I am NOT a kid!"

He laughed at the look of indignation on her face. "Because, I love how riled up it makes you," he replied with a twinkle in his eyes as he pulled her closer.

"And you like riling me up? Why?"

"Sweetheart, if you could just see the way your eyes spark with indignation when I call you that then you would understand why I love to see you that way. Besides I love how

flustered you get when I call you that as well as kiddo," he answered with a grin.

DG wanted to be mad at him but now that she knew why he called her those nicknames she found that she didn't mind them so much anymore. "Fine, Tin Man. Call me what you will...but I will find an appropriate nickname for you as well...just give me time to think of a good one!" she threatened with no real gumption behind her words just affection.

"Come here," he said placing his lips to hers effectively silencing her for the time being.

His kiss was passionate and she returned it with equal passion. She found herself on her back and him trailing his lips down her neck and she lost all thought as he reenacted

their first time together once again.

Later after they were both up and dressed they walked hand in hand to the library where the queen was waiting for DG so that they could plan her wedding.

"So, before I go in there...when did you wish to have the ceremony?" she asked looking up at him, wishing they could just return to her room.

"Does it matter, Darlin'? We are already married. This is just so our family gets to see it happen. I don't need the ceremony to tell me that you are mine now. But if I must give an answer then as soon as it can be arranged," he told her kissing her softly before pushing her into the library and walking away, leaving her in her mother's care for the afternoon.

Once he had left her, he went to seek out his son.
