Disclaimer: I don't own A DOLL'S HOUSE (Well I did own a doll house when I was little but I don't own A DOLL'S HOUSE))
Nora paced the room. Tovald was desperately ill and she had a 3 year old... Emmy, who didn't understand why she couldn't see her father. The doctor came downstairs. Nora greeted him but being 7 weeks pregnant with Ivar she was extremely emotional.
"I'm sorry Nora," he said, "There is only one thing that could save him. It is far too dangerous for me to do it. It must be done by an expert."
((Present Day))
Tovald always loved Nora but before this he never respected her before. He grew up in an age of male authority. Women were like pets or children in his understanding.
"NORA WAIT," he yelled out in desperation.
Nora kept walking.
"Please," he added softly.
Nora stopped.
"What," she asked.
"You had your say now give me a chance to have mine."
"I suppose that's fair," she said.
"Nora I was brought up in an household where men were the authority and woman were treated like beloved pets or children. They are rewarded and corrected. I love you but I never knew that there was an alternative to that way of life. I want to be better. I don't want you to go!"
Nora sighed.
"You want me to stay?"
"Desperately," he said.
"Very well," she said, "I'll stay under certain conditions. I am not your pet. I am not your child. I am your wife and your equal. You will never again put me down or hurt me or the kids for that matter in any way shape or form. If you decide to do that then you have chosen to lose both me and the children."
"Nora I am not perfect. I will try but what if I make a mistake"
"Tovald," she said, "I'm not unreasonable. I won't hold it against you if you do make a mistake. I'm talking about if you make a conscience choice to do something that is not okay."
"I promise," Tovald said.
"And," she said, "Before you make a decision that affects us all I want you to talk about it with me first. I expect to have my say and if we don't agree we'll find a compromise."
"My parents never did that," Tovald said.
"And look where they are now," Nora replied.
Tovald didn't see where he had much choice. His only other choice was to let his little bird leave the nest forever. What would that do the children?
"Okay," he said, "I agree to your terms."
"Then I will stay," she said, "And don't forget if you choose to behave in a way like you have before you are choosing for me to take the children and leave forever."
Tovald nodded. She kissed him quickly and walked into the family room.
"Mama," 9 year old Emmy said, "The doll you got me was so pretty."
"Mommy can you play catch with me," 4 year old Bobby asked.
"Momma can you show me how to use the sword you got me?"
Nora scooped her kids up and gave them all a big hug.
"I love you kids so much," she said, "Always know that."
Then she took Ivor and taught him to use the sword, thanked Emmy for the compliment about her doll and played catch with Bobby.
'I'm glad I stayed,' she thought to herself.
She only prayed Tovald kept his promise
