A/N: sorry it took so long i lost all my motivation lol I hope you like this!

"Woah," Alex breathed, turning around as she took in the sparkling dim lights dangling from the treetops, lighting up the small clearing in the forest.

"Glad you like it," Magnus watched as the grown-out green-ette twirled around before taking a step to stand beside her. He fondly bumped her shoulder as he glanced around the clearing too, though his eyes always settled on her.

"How'd you set this all up?" Alex whipped her head around to ask green curls bouncing against her face with the motion.

She looked gorgeous, hair and makeup barely mussed from the hike up to this spot. Magnus had to fight to catch his breath as the lights twinkled illuminating her. She was glowing, reminding him of an angel, even if he knew her personality contrasted the soft visage it only made her more alluring.

He scratched the back of his head nervously, "I asked Hearth and Blitz to set up the lights for before we came," he blushed. "But wait there's more!" He walked toward the center of the clearing, taking the backpack he'd been carefully hiding the contents of, off his back before quickly looking back at her, "wait! Shut your eyes."

Alex raised an eyebrow " in the middle of a dark forest, in the middle of the night, alone, with you?" she laughed.

Magnus blushed, he knew she was just teasing him, well he assumed, he hoped she didn't actually think of him like that. "Turn around and don't peek?"

"Better." She grinned and spun around on her heel so she was facing the path they had come from.

All she could hear from behind her were some soft sounds of shuffling and the dull quiet buzz of the nature around them. And no matter how much she really, really wanted to peek she didn't.

Magnus tried to set up everything as quickly as possible. He had thought ahead of time that getting the lights just right and keeping it a surprise would be impossible without making Alex stand around for far too long which is why he had asked Hearth and Blitz to do that, and graciously they had. But, he had decided keeping the food and utensils made more sense, as it was just a random forest clearing he had found hiking here a few weeks ago, and animals or people getting into it would have certainly caused a mess. Now he just had to hurry this along so as not to keep Alex waiting too long, she wasn't exactly known for her patience after all and this was supposed to be perfect.

The blanket took the longest as he embarrassingly struggled to unfold it and get it to lie flat. From the quiet snickers coming from Alex, he must have been embarrassingly loud about it as well.

He had considered cooking for extra hopeless romantic points but growing up the streets meant he hadn't ever picked up that skill. So, the blonde had stuck with a classic albeit not particularly romantic choice, falafels, Fadlen's falafels to be exact. Which, as he set up as best he could to look nice, was decidedly fitting for them.

Lastly, he set up a mini fire pit (he wasn't one-hundred percent certain this was a fire safe campsite but...it was okay...he hoped)

He also, obviously, had some s'mores ingredients but those were for later. So at last, he took a deep breath to calm his nerves "Okay, you can turn around now."

Before the words were even fully out of his mouth Alex had turned on her heel then froze taking in the sight before her.

"Magnus this is," she breathed, eyes flitting up from the picnic to look at his with possibly the softest smile she'd ever given him.

He blushed. And though it wasn't a skill of his, he held her gaze, she wasn't always the best at words but he knew from that look how much this all meant to her and it filled him with warmth.

"Happy Valentine's day Alex," he spoke at last. Cringing as his voice cracked but not minding at all when it made Alex laugh like that.

She laughed again as they sat down and he handed her a falafel.

"It's a classic." Magnus defended bumping her shoulder lightly.

"Mhm, very romantic sunny d." she spoke through a mouth full of food.

Magnus just stuck his tongue out before taking a bite.

They ate while enjoying the sounds of nature and the soft crackle of the fire. He wasn't sure how it happened but at some point, Alex had wiggled her way to rest her head on his lap and Magnus didn't mind at all.

"Thank you for this," Alex spoke after a long silence filled with staring up at the stars.

He wanted to say there was nothing to say thank you for, that this was more than he could have ever hoped for or dreamed of, instead he said "Thank you right back."

"What for?" Alex snorted.

"For being here, for trusting me, for your general existence."

He started to give her a lazy smile, looking down at where her head rested on his folded shins but froze sucking in a breath at the look she was giving him. Her eyes were wide and watery and he immediately went to backtrack but before he could get any words out to apologize for whatever he had said she lifted a hand to his cheek and he froze.

There was electricity between them as they stared at each other. Magnus could feel every hair on his body raise and each delicate stroke or adjustment of Alex's fingers on his cheek, the angle was a bit awkward and he was sure he looked ridiculous from her perspective, he probably had a defined double chin and a stupid expression on his face but he didn't dare move and risk disrupting whatever this moment was.

In all honesty, he wasn't even sure he could have moved, so enraptured by the look she was giving him and the feel of her callused fingers resting so carefully on his cheek.

And then slowly, so, so slowly, she lead his head down to kiss him and yes they had kissed before and this angle was awkward but it was perfect and magical. And it was perfect. And then it was over.

"Dummy." she poked his nose with a grin as they separated. He grinned right back.

And it was perfect, from the stupid gifts and the worrying over it all and the way she looked at him, it was perfect.
