Future of Gensokyo

It was a quiet evening at Hakurei Shrine. It wasn't anything unusual, there really wasn't many visitors at this shrine and the shrine maiden wasn't much of a loud person. There were two girls sitting on the porch of the shrine. One has long brown-black hair, big red ribbon that ties her hair into a ponytail, and matching tubes on her side locks, she also has brown eyes and wears a miko outfit. Another one has blonde hair and yellow eyes. She wears clothing with a black and white color scheme, consisting of a black vest and skirt, white waist apron and undershirt, and a black witch hat with a white bow. Her hair is braided on one side with a bow on the end.

-Alrighty, I'll be going now, Reimu. It's getting pretty late ya know.

Blonde girl said as she was starting to get up from the porch.

Reimu looked at the sky, and sure enough, the sun was slowly setting down.

-Yeah, sure. I'll be seeing you tomorrow then, Marisa?

Shrine maiden asked as she sipped her tea from the cup.

Marisa turned to Reimu and gave her big thumbs up.

-Ya can count on it!

Blonde then grabbed her broom and jumped on it.

-I'll be a bit late though, hafta do few things. Talk t'ya tomorrow, Reimu.

Marisa then flied off on her broom into the sky.

Reimu waved her off.

Shrine maiden liked the company of the magician, while she thought of her as a bit annoying and pushy, she still considered her a close friend, sure enough, Reimu did have a fair number of friends, but she thought of Marisa as somebody that she can talk about anything, she was also somebody that actually visited her to check on her than to just annoy her like some youkai do.

While Reimu was silently sipping on her tea, she heard a loud noise from her shed near the shrine.

She didn't think much about it, probably something got loose and fell down. She was too comfortable here to go and check it out.

Her theory was sadly debunked as another loud noise sounded from her shed.

Reimu sighed and slowly got up from the porch.

She decided to go inside the shrine to grab her gohei.

She went inside her bedroom and grabbed gohei that was lying down on the table. She then got ofuda from her pockets and went outside the shrine.

Sure enough another loud noise sounded from the shed, suggesting that somebody or something sneaked into it.

-Probably some wild animal or youkai got inside.

Reimu said to herself quietly.

Shrine maiden slowly moved near the shed.

-I know that you're in there! Get out of the shed quietly, or I will be forced to exterminate you!

Reimu shouted in the direction of the shed.

Of course, she wouldn't exterminate anyone, she just wanted to scare youkai so that they would listen. After all, it was probably some small youkai that was trying to raid her food storage. More powerful youkai know better than that to annoy her.

Yet nobody was leaving the shed.

Reimu once again sighed and guessed that it must be some animal.

She slowly moved to the door and quietly opened it.

She looked inside, however was surprised that there was nobody there. Everything looked just as normal and there was no mess inside.

Reimu dumbfounded, entered the shed and started to search for the culprit of noises, yet no matter how much she searched, she couldn't find anything.

Was she hearing things? But that seems impossible since she heard several noises in the row. Either some youkai is playing a prank on her or she is going crazy.

She thought to herself.

Reimu shrugged, then moved to the door to leave the shed.

Suddenly something grabbed her by the ankle, then forcefully dragged her into the floor. That would be the case normally, but she literally went through the floor, like it didn't exist.

Reimu yelped and tried to fight back to no avail.

After a moment, that thing released her, and she felt that she was falling down.

Reimu was bewildered and quickly looked around, she saw that she was falling from very great height.

The shrine maiden tried to quickly break her free-fall by willing herself to fly, yet no matter how many times she tried, she couldn't fly.

She saw that she was getting closer to the ground and panicked, she closed her eyes and braced for the impact.

Suddenly something with enormous speed grabbed her and quickly put her on the ground safely before she could hit the ground.

It was so fast that Reimu didn't even have chance to see who or what saved her.

-I swear, Yukari, if that's your idea of the fun, then I WILL definitely exterminate you.

Reimu absentmindedly said to herself.

But why she couldn't fly? She does remember times when she didn't know how to fly and had to fly on her old turtle friend, yet it was a long time ago and by then flying was a natural thing to her.

Reimu thought to herself.

The shrine maiden tried to summon her yin-yang orb, yet it was the same thing as with flying, nothing happened.

She tried firing her danmaku, once again no results.

This wasn't good, she couldn't use any of her powers, she had to quickly find Yukari, otherwise she won't be able to perform her duties.

For now, she had to rely on her hand-to-hand training that she was trained by Kasen.

Reimu looked around at her surroundings and nearly had a heart attack.

She didn't know where she was, but this definitely wasn't Gensokyo.

Tall buildings everywhere, some kind of metal things that were driving on the road and a lot of humans that had somewhat weird fashion for her.

She recalls hearing similar things about Outside World from Sumireko and Yukari, so she probably ended up there.

Reimu noticed that a few humans took notice of her and started staring at her weirdly.

This was no surprise, after all, she didn't exactly blend in with her miko outfit.

She couldn't exactly think about the situation when people are disturbing her with staring, she had quickly to find some quiet spot, where she can figure out, what to do next.

She moved quickly in one direction and noticed a road where there was nothing driving and no visible humans.

Reimu decided to go there and plan her next move in peace.

That would be the plan, but she suddenly heard somebody shouting behind her.

-Halt! This is restricted area, identify yourself civilian.

She turned around and saw an armored person, she wasn't sure what gender that person was or if it was even a human, since it looked just like "cyborg" that Sanae once was telling her about, their voice was also distorted because of the mask, but she believed that they are male, she also noticed that this person was aiming something at her.

She believed that it was "assault rifle" but she too wasn't sure, since she only heard stories from Yukari about them.

-Um, my name is Reimu Hakurei.

The shrine maiden meekly answered.

-I was talking about your documents, I don't care what's your name.

The man coldly answered back.

Documents? What was he talking about? Do humans in the Outside World use them to identify themselves? What an odd system.

-I don't have a-any documents.

Reimu replied.

-Well that's just too bad for you. I have been instructed to neutralize anybody that is unauthorized to enter this area. You better find your documents in the next five seconds, or you will be taken care of.

The man tightened his grip on the assault rifle.

From one life-threatening situation to another, she just really couldn't get a break.

-Five.

Reimu could hear her heart beating faster.

-Four.

She looked around to find somewhere to hide, but the area was too open for her to hide anywhere.

-Three.

She noticed a bat sitting on a trash can. The bat was looking at her. Reimu could swear that she saw this bat somewhere before.

-Two.

The bat lightly flapped its wings and then flied off into the night sky.

-One.

Suddenly, the man was clutching his throat, Reimu noticed that his hands were slowly getting soaked in the blood, after a moment of choking, he dropped on the ground unmoving.

But how? She was dumbfounded. She didn't see or hear anybody attacking him.

-It's been a while, Reimu.

A familiar voice said behind her.

The shrine maiden turned around and saw a masked person that was wearing a white shirt with black vest and black coat slung over their shoulders, they were also wearing black pants with belt and black bovver boots.

-Um, do I know you?

Reimu asked.

Masked person chuckled in response and took her mask off.

Reimu was extremely surprised at sight of the familiar face.

She had silver hair worn in long braids on both sides of her face with green bows at the ends, she also had blue eyes.

-Sakuya? Is that you?
