One spring day Nick and Jay went to the local bookstore together. It was a surprise trip for Nick. He was told to get in the car and that they were going for a drive.

Jay parked the car in the small lot in front of the store. "Here we are, my dear."

"The bookstore?" Nick's eyes lit up. "What're we doing here?"

"What one normally does at a bookstore."

The two got out of the car and headed inside. The air smelled of old pages and wooden shelves. There was a set of kids being read to by their mother sitting in the corner. A college age student held a stack of textbooks.

"Pick out whatever you want," Jay said, trailing behind Nick.

"Are you sure?" Nick asked.

"Yes. I'll buy you as many books as you want, Nick."

Nick grinned widely. He disappeared behind a tall bookshelf. Whenever he found a book he thought looked particularly interesting, he handed it to Jay.

Once they'd gone through the whole store, Nick and Jay approached the checkout counter. Gatsby plopped the giant stack of books down and pulled out his wallet.

"You've uh, got quite a few books here," the young woman working as the cashier said lightheartedly.

Nick shyed away and Gatsby chuckled, patted Nick's head. "He's an avid reader."

The woman finished ringing up the books and Gatsby payed for all of them. Nick offered to put some of the books back once he saw the total, but Jay wouldn't hear of it.

The two left the store and drove back to Nick's house.

"Will you need help putting all these on your shelf? Gatsby asked as he hauled an armful of books towards the front door.

"Yes please," Nick answered, taking the remainder of the books inside.

"And once they're all put in their place, you can pick whichever one you want to start with."

"Yes, I'm looking forward to it."

"Maybe you could even read one to me," Jay suggested.

"I'd like that."

"Me too, darling."
