Chapter 21

Lena was completely exhausted and collapsed on one of the medical lab beds. Doctor Rodgers had suggested she try and get some sleep, even if it wasn't in her own bed. Brainy and Nia had gone back to her place to sleep but only after Doctor Rodgers promised to keep them in the loop when it came to any happenings with Lillian. The nanites had been removed but the elder Luthor had not woken up due to the stasis chamber. Lillian's vitals were stable and the body scan showed that all of the Nth metal was gone but no one wanted to pull her out of stasis just yet. They were all concerned that even if there was a microscopic trace left, it would explode once she was removed. Brainy and Rodgers agreed that multiple body scans over the next few days would need to be done and then slowly they would bring Lillian out of stasis.

"I think you can go home now. It's been a long day," Alex said as she approached Sandy. The latter woman was standing near the doorway of the medical lab, leaning against the wall.

"Yes it has but I don't think I should leave Miss Luthor alone. I mean I could give her a ride home. I'm not sure why she wants to stay. I'm sure that a good night's rest in her own bed would be better," Sandy voiced her concern.

"I think you're right but Lena didn't want to leave her mother, despite the fact that there isn't much to do but wait," the redhead told her.

"I just don't want her to get sick because she isn't taking care of herself," the brunette said.

"Tell you what, you go home, and I'll make sure that Lena gets home," Alex winked at her.

"I can live with that," Sandy smiled slightly.

"Take good care of yourself. We'll let you know if we need more help," the redhead promised.

"Same to you," with that Sandy headed for the exit, looking forward to her pillow and cozy bed. Alex turned her attention to Lena who was already asleep. Doctor Rodgers came up to her and asked,

"So how do you want to get her to a car?" While he hadn't heard what the two ladies were talking about, he knew Alex and he knew that she wouldn't want to leave her friend there.

"The bed has wheels, let's start there," the redhead winked. Quickly the two got to work; both hoping that they could manage to get Lena to the car before she woke up.

Meanwhile, Kate had locked herself in her bedroom, even though she knew Kara could rip the door off its hinges if she wanted to. Still she knew the blonde wouldn't. Kara might be the most powerful person on the planet but her restraint was almost just as powerful.

"I will call Papa Bear. He could be here in a snap," Kara said through the door. Calling in the Martian was a shot over the bow. There was no way she could avoid his mindreading capabilities. Kara could hear footsteps and the door unlocked. Still the door remained closed and the blonde wondered what kind of message that was. A few moments later, Kate emerged from the room and pointed toward the couch. Kara nodded and moved over to the sofa.

"You can be brutal when you want to be," Kate told her as she sat down.

"Brutal is me being forced to beat the crap out of Kal after he was infected with silver kryptonite. This was nothing," Kara teased.

"Silver kryptonite?" The brunette asked. It sounded like some pretty nasty stuff if it caused Superman to go after his cousin.

"Stop deflecting. I'll tell you about it later," the blonde said. Kate nodded and heaved a sigh before starting with,

"Safiyah and I…"

"Really? Well that would be a good reason to be concerned. She knows you better than you're willing to admit huh?" The blonde didn't let her finish.

"You gain powers from J'onn or…" Kate gave her a look.

"I've seen that look on your face before. It was when you mentioned Sophie…" Kara admitted.

"Well let's be clear. I learned a lot from Safiyah but once I found out what she was up to… I cut it off. I wanted no part of her terror group," her friend explained.

"Yes well you wouldn't have taken on the mantle of Batwoman if you were going to join them plus you definitely would not have been considered a Paragon," Kara said.

"True but it gets worse. Beth… I didn't know it at the time but shortly after I left Coryana, Safiyah brought her to the island. Her incredibly fragile brain was already heading down the wrong path but it was further altered by one of Safiyah's goons and the transformation was complete. That's why we now have Alice and the Wonderland gang," Kate told her.

"That explains why she'd come after Alice and then you. Safiyah must think that Alice has something she wants or maybe Tommy did? They kept coming at us because if Tommy did have something, they didn't find it," Kara said.

"This is going to involve a big giant mess and I… I can't deal with my dad right now," the brunette knew that she was going to have to interrogate Alice and she knew that now that she was in the custody of the Crows, there was no way around Jacob Kane.

"Then we better get moving on making him realize the error of his ways," Kara winked.
