Now, this story is the prequel to A Small Chance and will tell the story of how Eduardo and Sapphire fell in love and their years together, of course having Jewel, up until the moment the fateful day happens. So I hope you enjoy and with that…

Lets get on with it!

Chapter 1: From Afar

The day was bright and everything was wonderful in the Amazon rainforest as every living creature enjoyed their day doing what they normally do. And in one specific area of the rainforest, the rare and fully blue colored feathered birds of the Blue macaw tribe resided, in peace and in unison. Things couldn't be better as children played with each other while the adults collected food from nearby nut and fruit trees, building nests and hollows or just chatting with other adults.

Of course not every Blue macaw was busy doing something helpful or for fun, in fact one was peeking through some of the jungle foliage, looking upon a group of some of the young female teenagers by a small pond which was constantly being filled by a waterfall nearby. Specifically the spying bird was looking upon one specific girl…

"You're so beautiful Sapphire…" The Blue macaw thought as he remained hidden and out of view of the group of girls. "I wish I could tell you that…" The macaw softly spoke as he was so focused on the one specific girl that he didn't hear someone else coming in from behind him.

"Hey Eddie, what are you doing!?" A voice spoke to him a little loudly as the surprised macaw jumped a little from the sudden voice.

"Sis!" The macaw, Eddie, short for Eduardo, shot back as he turned around, hoping that the group of girls didn't hear them, but luckily the sound of the nearby waterfall drowned out their voices enough. "You trying to get me caught?" Eduardo lowered his voice to be safe as his sister, Mimi, chuckled.

"You realize you're being a stalker right?" Mimi pointed out the obvious. "Let me guess… Its that girl, Sapphire…" Mimi guessed correctly as Eduardo felt his cheeks go red, telling Mimi she was right.

"What is it you want anyway?" Eduardo changing the subject as he wasn't feeling too comfortable talking about his crush with his older sister.

"Dad told me he wants to speak with you, sent me to go look for you." Mimi told her younger brother. "If I were you, I would stop spying and go to him now." Mimi advised her brother as Eduardo sighed, taking one last look at Sapphire for now before joining his sister and flying with her to one of the bigger trees of the tribe's area, where Eduardo lived in with his family.

As the two siblings arrived, going inside, they saw their parents, speaking to some of the tribe's elders as Mimi cleared her throat to get her father's attention.

"Dad, Eddie's here." Mimi said as her father came up to them.

"Thank you sweetie, go join your mom, I want to talk to your brother alone." Eduardo and Mimi's father, along the Blue macaw tribe leader, told his daughter as Mimi nodded her head and went to join her mother while father and son were alone. "Come with me son." Eduardo's father told the young teenager as the two went outside the hollow to the branch which hanged just outside it.

"What is it dad?" Eduardo asked. "It must be something serious if we're alone out here."

"Son, I thought long and hard about this and you're almost a full grown bird…" Eduardo's father started. "I think the time's coming and you have to be ready to take my place when I decide to retire."

"Me? The tribe's leader?" Eduardo couldn't believe the words coming from his father. "But dad… Shouldn't Mimi be the next leader, she's older than me and…" Eduardo started as his father raised a wing to quiet his son.

"Traditionally yes, but Mimi I think would be better doing what she likes, I already discussed it prior with your sister and the elders." Eduardo's father cleared that up. "I know it's a lot, that's why I'm giving you the time to be prepared for when the day comes and trust me, there's no one else besides your sister that I would entrust the tribe's leadership to." Eduardo's father expressing his full confidence to his son as he put a wing on Eduardo's shoulder.

"Well… Thanks… Dad…" Was all Eduardo could reply as it was a lot to take in.

As Eduardo's father left his son to ponder what he said, going back inside the hollow, Eduardo himself thought about what this piece of news meant and that brought his mind to Sapphire…

"Well, if I do become the next tribe leader, I better think about my partner…" Eduardo thought as he looked out towards the beautiful scenery around him and the tribe and its members he would one day be in charge of leading and protecting, along the most important of which would be Sapphire.

While Eduardo was outside, one of the birds inside the hollow was looking out to him, taking note of his behavior and expression and knowing full well what it meant as the day passed by relatively fast as night replaced the daytime. As Eduardo was sitting down, eating dinner with his parents and sister, he was more focused on Sapphire than his food, barely eating anything. And when dinner was done, Eduardo, unlike his family, returned to the outside once more, looking out towards the stars. With no light pollution getting in the way, the night sky put on quite a show, with thousands of stars shining, blanketing the night sky and along them, the moon, the brightest sphere, its light radiating outward in every direction.

"Can't sleep?" A voice spoke to Eduardo from behind, but rather than be angry, Eduardo turned around to face the bird, not sure what to say.

"Oh hi mom…" Eduardo said. "Lovely night right?"

"Yes son, it is." Eudardo's mother agreed as she came next to her son. "So, let me guess, it's about a girl?"

"Who told you!? Mimi?" Eduardo surprised his mother knew.

"No, no one told me anything…" Eduardo's mother answered. "You did, but not saying anything to me." Eduardo's mother revealed as Eduardo was confused.

"But… How?" Eduardo's eyes all wide now.

"Son, a mother knows, no matter what and you think you're the first one to act like this?" Eduardo's mother pointing out. "How do you think your father and I fell for each other when we started?"

"You mean…" Eduardo started.

"Your father was so nervous at first to even come up and talk to me and to be honest, I may have rejected him at first, but he was persistent and didn't give up and well now we're together and have you and your sister." Eduardo's mother remembering and chuckling at the past. "So who's the lucky girl you have your eyes for?"

"It's Sapphire…" Eduardo now blushing as he had to tell his mother now, there was no escaping from it anymore.

"Oh, I know her, she's a very tough, but also kind girl, helps me out a lot whenever I need a helping wing building nests for other families or looking for herbs for medicine." Eduardo's mother smiled. "And well now that I'm thinking of it, she would be a good match for you."

"Mom…" Eduardo feeling a little embarrassed now, but that was what mothers did as his mother could only chuckle softly at her son's discomfort.

"Give it time my son, don't rush into things and be patient with her, you'll win her heart." Eduardo's mother expressing her confidence into her young teenage son.

"Thanks mom." Eduardo sighed.

"You're welcome, now you should get some sleep." Eduardo's mother told him.

"You go ahead, I want to stay out her a little more." Eduardo replied as his mother let him do so as Eduardo returned to looking up into the star filled night sky, the stars continuing to sparkle like diamonds and sapphires as Eduardo sighed once again. "One day, I wouldn't be alone looking at this display…" Eduardo closed his eyes for a few seconds and tried to imagine his potential future with Sapphire…

And I'll end this first chapter here! I hope you enjoyed it and well looking froward to the next one and the chapters after that of course!

Also, the title of the story is still a work in progress, but if you're all okay with it, I'll keep it! And with that…

See everybird later!
