So here's another new story. It took longer than I expected :)

If you are new here, I would like to warn you all again that English is not my native language. There may be some grammatical errors in the text. I apologize in advance for that: D

You can look forward to the sixth chapter of The Greatest soon. It's almost finished, only a few sentences left.

Thank you to all my reviewers. I am grateful for your feedback. Enjoy it!

The Story Of Inspector Gadget's Hat

It was a beautiful winter morning, and Inspector Gadget was sitting on a bench in front of a mountain hut. He came here to watch the sunrise. He was drinking black tea and reading a newspaper. It was a winter holiday time, so he decided to take his family on a smaller vacation. He needed time off.

"Good morning, Uncle Gadget," Penny said, sitting down next to him.

"Good morning, Penny."

"Are you watching the sunrise again?" she asked, looking at the small glowing spot among the snow-covered trees. It was a beautiful sight.

"As usual," he said with a smile and set the newspaper aside. "What do you want to do today? I heard the owner of a local hotel is holding a carnival tonight." He pulled three tickets from his coat pocket. "We are invited."

"But Uncle ... It's a ski carnival. I can't participate if I can't ski."

Inspector Gadget thought about it. "What would you say if I went to a rental shop and rented skis?"

"Why do you need more skis?" she did not understand.

"I'll teach you. Put on warm clothes and then wait here. I'm going to find Brain."

Penny nodded and ran to her room. She couldn't wait for Uncle Gadget to take her to the piste for the first time.

"Trust me, it's easy," Inspector Gadget said as he fastened the buckles on Penny's skis. "Do you see this binding? If you fall, the skis will disengage and nothing will happen to you."

Penny looked uncertainly down the end of the slope. "I am worried."

"There's nothing to worry about. Just be careful. Look at Brain!" Gadget said, pointing to their dog, who rode gracefully among the other skiers. He was really good at it.

Brain waved at them and headed for the lower station of the cable car.

"I'll try to trust you, Uncle Gadget," she said, sinking her wands into the snow. She drove off slowly.

"Well done, that's my girl!" said her uncle enthusiastically and began to clap.

She made four turns, but after a while she lost control and rushed vertically down. She couldn't stop.

"Uncle Gadget, help!"

"Hold on! Go, go gadget skis!" exclaimed Inspector Gadget, and a pair of red skis appeared at his feet.

Penny didn't know what to do. There were too many skiers on the piste. She drove so fast that she knocked down a ski instructor.

"You have to keep your feet together! Transfer the weight of the body forward and ... " before the instructor could finish the sentence, Inspector Gadget passed by and knocked down all his students like skittles.

"Sorry!" Gadget said.

Meanwhile, the hotel owner was sitting on the terrace. He was drinking hot tea. "It's a beautiful day. Am I right?"

"Oh yes, sir. A day made for skiing," said the waiter. "Look! Isn't that a world-famous Inspector Gadget?"

Both men ran to the railing.

"Hello, Inspector! Can I get your autograph?" the hotel owner called, waving to Gadget, who was passing by very quickly.

But he didn't notice him. Penny was approaching the edge of the slope. He had to save her quickly. Suddenly he saw something. A group of small children built a ski jump out of the snow near the building. Inspector decided to use it. He did a double flip, and soared into the air with his Gadgetcopter.

"Hurray!" the children cheered.

"I didn't know Inspector Gadget was doing acrobatic skiing."

"Aaaah ..." Penny shouted, closing her eyes to the approaching obstacle. But she felt no impact. Before she could crash into the wooden fence, an extended Gadget's hand wrapped around her, and her uncle managed to pull her close in time.

"I have you!" he said proudly.

Unfortunately, the Gadgetcopter tangled in a steel rope from the ski lift. It stopped spinning.

"Oops!" Inspector Gadget said, and they both fell into a pile of freshly fallen snow.

As soon as Brain saw this, he began to bark furiously. He hurried there and dug Penny out.

"Thanks Brain," she said. "Uncle Gadget, are you okay?"

He spat snow out of his mouth and answered. "Of course I am and what about you? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," she answered.

"Oh no! My hat!" Gadget shouted when he realized he was missing something on his head. He began to panic. "Where it is? What if I lost it ..."

"Calm down, Uncle. We will definitely find it. It must be buried in the snow," Penny reassured him.

All three began rummaging through the snow. It was hard work. They searched for a long time.

"Here it is!" Penny shouted happily.

"Oh, my precious hat. I was already afraid that I had lost him forever," Inspector Gadget said, examining his hat. He looked to see if it had been damaged in any way.

"Uncle Gadget, can I ask you one thing?"

"Of course you can."

"Why do you always wear your hat?"

Gadget knew that his niece would ask him about it sometime. "Hmm ... so this interests you. I just love it so much. I got it from my dad for my fifth birthday."

"But that's not the real reason you sleep with him every night, is it?" Penny said unconvinced, raising her right eyebrow.

"You really want to know, don't you?" her uncle said, putting his hands on his hips. "To tell you the truth, he is my faithful friend."

"Friend?! Sorry uncle, I don't mean to offend you, but didn't you hit your head in our fall? Since when can anyone befriend a hat?"

"Ever since I became a bionic inspector."

Her uncle was right. What could be less believable than him?

"So you're saying the gadget hand is a living thing?" she asked.

"I'm not sure. But it certainly makes sense. Do you see?" he said, pointing to a mechanical hand that emerged from his hat and dusted the snow off his coat. "Sometimes it doesn't listen to me and does what it wants. Your mother called it a helping hand. She built it to keep an eye on me. Professor Von Slickstein has tried several times to build a similar hat, but unfortunately he has never succeeded. Your mother has managed to create a unique technology."

"Mom was a real genius."

"Yes, she was. I miss her terribly," Gadget said sadly, looking at Penny's broken skis.

"Do you think she's watching us from heaven?" his niece said, looking at him with her blue-green eyes.

"Yes, and she's definitely very proud of you. She always wanted you to grow into a smart girl. God, you look so much like her."

Penny smiled warmly at her uncle. She knew he meant it. "Can I try it?" she asked and pointed to her uncle's hat.

"Of course," said Gadget, taking it out of his head. The cold wind played with his black hair."

Penny took the hat in her hands. At first glance, it was a shabby old hat, but she could hear metal crackling inside. When she looked more closely, she saw an applique from an old Parisian hatter's shop. It must have been a very expensive.

She put it on her head. "Oh ... it's very heavy! I don't understand how you can wear it."

"I'm used to it. If you had bones reinforced with titanium, it would feel as light as a feather."

At that moment, something crazy occurred to Penny.

"Go, go gadget hand."

To the inspector's surprise, the hat did open and a mechanical hand appeared. It handed Penny a bouquet of roses.

"How did you do that?" Gadget said, stunned.

"What?" she said. She didn't understand what he meant.

"You can control my Gadgets."

"I? Oh yes, it seems."

"I have an idea!" he said and smiled.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the first prize for the best mask is won by ... Penny! Congratulations, young lady! You have a really good costume. I'd almost confuse you with your uncle," the presenter said to the girl with the small pigtails dressed in an unconventional coat.

"Thank you," Penny said, lifting the cup.

Inspector Gadget stood nearby with Brain. They both applauded. After the party, they were to leave soon. Chief Quimby called them to say he had another important mission. As they drove home in the Gadgetmobile, Penny wanted to ask her uncle one more thing.

"Uncle Gadget?"

"What's up, Penny?"

"How come you were so sure I wouldn't fall?" she asked him.

"If you can control my gadgets, nothing can happen to you. I knew it." Then he frowned suddenly. "But now give me back my hat!"

Penny started laughing.

It was another of the beautiful days of Penny's life. It wasn't that she won a glittering cup, but that she spent another wonderful time with her uncle and Brain. Inspector Gadget never fully found out why Penny was able to control his Gadgets. Maybe it was another system fault or a loose wire, but he was never very interested. He just believed that it was because he loved his niece so much.
