Chapter 20

Andrea smiled warmly as she checked herself in the mirror one more time. It had taken some getting used to, but she could finally look at her face in the mirror, see the scar along her left cheek, the missing ear lobe and no longer flinch.

'It's almost time.' She thought to herself. 'I still can't believe this day is really here.'

She couldn't help the smile growing, for today was finally her and Rick's wedding. It had been a year since the dramatic case of the gangs and since then, things had not only calmed down greatly, but also changed. Rick was once more one of the best officers in the force, had finally pulled his life together and now it was time for their wedding. Both their families and friends of theirs were already getting ready, she had heard them all making their way to where the service would be taking place.

Amy grinned widely as she put the finishing touches to her sister's hair. "Oh my God, Andrea, this is perfect. I can't believe you're really getting married, it's so...amazing."
"I know, I still feel like I'm dreaming." Andrea replied.

Amy laughed and nodded; she was of course the maid of honour, her other bridesmaids being Maggie, Michonne and Lydia. All three of them grinned, all of them ready and with the finishing touches put in place, they just needed to head down and get ready to enter when it was time for the ceremony to begin. Andrea took a slow breath, readying herself for this momentous occasion, before standing up and nodded to the other ladies, together they took their bouquets and began heading down.

Rick fidgeted with his tie as he stood at the altar, this was it, the big day. He still recalled his wedding to Lori, all those years ago. Funnily enough, he felt less nervous back then than he did now.

"Dad, relax." Carl laughed softly. "This is gonna go great, everything's perfect."

Carl was standing nearby, alongside an amused looking Glenn, who served as Rick's best man. So as not to provoke any unfortunate reactions from the guests Carl was covering his missing eye with a patch.

"I know, I know." Rick replied quickly. "Sorry, I just...I can't help feeling nervous."

Carl nodded slowly. "I know dad, don't worry. Everything's cool. Soon you and Andrea will be married and then you'll see there's nothing to worry about."

Rick managed a smile at that. When he proposed to Andrea his biggest fear was Carl not accepting, fears of Carl seeing Andrea as an interloper and trying to replace Lori. To his relief, Carl was instantly overjoyed to hear the news, granted by that time he had practically come to see Andrea as his stepmother anyway. Before they could say anything else they heard the music.

"Ah, starting." Carl remarked. "Okay dad, this is it."

"Yes. Alright then, get to your seat, it's time." Rick replied.

Carl nodded and soon everybody was in position as the bridesmaids entered.

All eyes were on Andrea as she entered, Rick couldn't help the wide smile that broke out on his face as she made her way down the aisle towards him, smiling back. The two of them knew with certainty then that this was it, this was their new beginning and their chance to forge a new life, together.

End of chapter and of story, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
