Come Home (I Need You)

It had been a bad day.

Terrible day in fact.

Even the sight of his always clumsy boyfriend—blue scrubs still clean and proving that he'd only just arrived—tripping towards him wasn't enough to raise his mood beyond the smallest of spikes.

"Proving your elegance, as always there, Newb," he greeted, shaking his head slightly.

JD rolled his eyes and leant up on his toes slightly to press a kiss to Perry's cheek. "Hello to you too."

"Uh huh. If you're here, that means I can get the hell out of this crapshack," Perry muttered. "I'll see you when you get home."

He paused. JD didn't technically live with him. Yet. So—

"Sure. I'll try and be quiet on my way in, in case you're sleeping."

Perry snorted. Chance would be a fine thing. Though given twelve hours, there was every possibility he'll have drunk himself into a stupor by then.

"Perry? You okay? Do you need me to get someone to cover my shift?" JD asked, a frown marring his pretty features.

Perry shook his head. "It's just been a rough shift, I'll be fine." He pressed a soft kiss to JD's temple. "I'll see you later."

The scotch wasn't working. Neither was the football, or the pizza, or the vegging on the sofa.

Perry was still feeling shit, and he just… he just wanted a cuddle from his Newbie. Dammit.

He hadn't realised just how much he'd come to rely on JD to soothe away the bad days and make Perry feel like he wasn't wasting his time trying to make a difference.

He'd actually turned into one of the blithering idiots he'd always abhorred. Gross.

He glanced at his pager and then away again. He wasn't going to ask JD to come home. He wasn't.

Really wasn't.

He let out a wordless shout of frustration and grabbed his pager from the side.

Newb… come home.

Perry frowned when the door opened. He glanced at the pager and then back at the door, arching his eyebrow at his sheepish boyfriend.

"That was… fast, Newb."

"Yeah, so, I uh. I've been sitting in my car downstairs, waiting for you to page me," JD admitted. "I just, I guess I knew you needed me at home tonight, so after you left I called Elliot to cover my shift and followed you home."

"I've been home for two hours."

"I've been sitting down stairs for an hour and a half?"

Perry closed his eyes and then he laughed, holding out his arms for JD to settle into, holding him close. Perry buried his face against JD's hair and inhaled the familiar, comforting scent.

"You wanna talk about it?" JD offered quietly, his lips moving against Perry's neck.

"Not yet. Maybe later."

"Kay."

Eventually, Perry got up for a shower, JD following him in after ten minutes and rinsing the product from his hair. Perry smiled against his shoulder at that. How did the kid always know what Perry wanted.

When they were cleaned up and redressed in comfies, they returned to the sofa with a couple of beers and the remainders of the pizza Perry had given up on eating earlier.

JD curled up with his head in Perry's lap, Perry's fingers buried in his hair, a blanket over them.

And Perry started feeling better.

It was so simple, but this right here was why he loved JD so much. He was so unassuming, and yet just so… comforting. He could make Perry smile even after the most dismal of days.

He looked down to see that JD was looking up at him, a beautiful shine of affection and love in his eyes.

"Thank you for coming home."

JD smiled up at him. "For you? Anytime, Perry."
