When the eisbiber heard Adalind was pregnant, they insisted on doing something special for her birthday.

"The eisbiber women have practically ordered me to have Adalind at the lodge at six pm." Nick told his friends. "They want to throw her a surprise birthday party."

The lodge was done up with lots of streamers and balloons. An overplushed couch with a sign on it that said, "Reserved for the birthday girl and her grimm husband" was against one wall, overlooking the whole room.

"Adalind will be waited on hand and foot." Phoebe Wurstner told Nick. "She won't have to lift a finger the whole time. And there will be plenty of food."

That turned out to be the understatement of the century. The tables were piled high with all sorts of goodies. And the cake had yet to make an appearance.

Nick was almost worried Adalind and her hormones wouldn't be able to process it all.

All of these years later and she still found it hard to accept that she was loved. Though Nick spent every moment that he could assuring her she was.

Having just stopped by to make sure everything would be to his wife's liking, Nick headed out of the lodge as the finishing touches were put in place.

After calling the others to make sure they were on their way, he headed home to help Adalind get herself and the kids ready.

All Adalind knew was that Nick was taking the whole family somewhere fun but still a little nice to celebrate her birthday.

Adalind was feeling a little self conscious about her baby bump, so she intended to wear black. But Nick encouraged her to go with something a little more colorful for her birthday celebration, so she decided on a soft pink tunic top with cream colored leggings.

Adalind looked at her profile in the full length mirror, unsure.

Then Nick wrapped his arms around her and said, "I love taking you out in public and showing you off. All of the envious looks of the men who wish you were theirs. And with you being pregnant, it's one more thing to feel smug about."

It was macho bravado, but it was exactly what Adalind needed to hear. She loved being told she was considered a trophy wife by her husband.

Feeling beautiful and confident again, Adalind smiled brightly and followed her family to the car.

On the drive, Nick thought about having Adalind blindfolded, but feared too much of a surprise might be too much for her and cause harm to both her and the baby.

"Nick, what is this place?" Adalind asked when they arrived at their destination. "It doesn't look like a restaurant."

"That's because it's not a restaurant." He replied matter of factly. But gave no other hint to what was going on.

"Happy Birthday!" Rang out as soon as they opened the door.

Adalind gasped in shock, rendered completely speechless by the sight of so many people in a room filled with decorations and a large banner that said in big bold letters, "Happy Birthday Adalind Burkhardt".

She was escorted to her designated couch, which Nick noticed had several more pillows on it than there were when he last saw it an hour previous.

"Now you just sit here and let us bring everything to you." Phoebe Wurstner informed Adalind. "Nick said he was worried about you suffering too much strain. He is such a sweet and thoughtful man. So very rare. But of course you know that. Just as you know how much he loves you and is very protective of you."

"You do know I'm pregnant, not invalid?" Adalind asked her husband with a wry grin.

"Oh, enjoy the fuss. With a third baby on the way; you're going to need all of the rest you can get."

"Nick told us all of your favorite foods. And he made up a playlist of your favorite songs." Bud said, walking over to the family with a large tray of punch and appetizers.

Monroe and Rosalee joined the group, each giving Adalind a hug and wishing her a happy birthday.

The triplets all said happy birthday to Adalind in unison, before jumping on Kelly and starting a wrestling match that was filled with squealing laughter.

Trubel, Hank and Wu also joined in, all saying happy birthday.

"Mrs. Wurstner had us all put our presents for you on a separate table."

"My wife wants to make sure you don't start opening presents until you've blown out the candles and served the cake." Bud said.

"That's just the right way to do things." Phoebe glared at her husband. Then, her expression softening as she turned to Adalind, she announced, "We have lots of fun games, and of course plenty of food. A hexenbiest pregnant with a grimm's baby needs all of the calories she can ingest."

And ingest, she did. Each time Adalind got a plate, it was nearly overflowing.

Trubel was astonished. "I didn't think it was possible for anyone to eat more than me."

"Adalind's doctor is wesen. He said Adalind's appetite is normal. With her being a hexenbiest and having a grimm's baby, she needs ten times the amount of calories." Nick informed everyone. He had made sure to let the eisbiber know. Which was why there was such an abundance of food and why none of them had batted an eye when Adalind was on her fifth plate.

Along with the abundance of food, there were lots of fun games.

One game the eisbiber insisted on was called blind building.

They were divided into teams, where each person was blindfolded then told to build whatever they could think of with wooden blocks and play dough. The bigger and more complicated the project the better.

But more than a few became very irritated when they saw that the grimm and his stepdaughter were exceptionally good at the game; the family having built a large log cabin with a garage and additional shed in just twenty minutes.

"I'm pretty sure Nick and Diana should have excused themselves from the game. Nick has super hearing that works almost better than sight and Diana is really powerful. It's like superman and the flash joining a pie eating contest." Monroe observed.

"We are not having a pie eating contest. I still remember how the fourth of July picnic went." An eisbiber male declared.

"You don't have eating contests at birthday parties." Phoebe said with a roll of her eyes. "And the cake I made is too good to be eaten quickly."

Hearing the word "Cake" Kelly started shouting excitedly, "Cake! Cake! Cake! Cake!"

That of course got the triplets to join in as well.

Laughing at the antics of the children, it was decided to bring out the treat.

The lights were turned low and everyone began to sing as the very large cake filled with glowing candles was wheeled out.

The candlelight reflected off of the tears welling in Adalind's eyes. She felt so happy and so grateful for all of the love surrounding her. And it made thinking of something to wish for as she blew out her candles difficult. Especially when she looked at the love and devotion shining in the eyes of her husband as he gazed back at her.

But there was one thing she would always wish for, it was that her family would always be safe and be by her side at the end of each day, no matter what.

So with her hand over her belly, holding her and Nick's baby growing inside her, Adalind closed her eyes, made her wish, and blew out the candles.
