The Horrors of Camping (L/A)

This was my own idea for a prompt

Lorenzo let out a loud sigh as he took a seat in one of the foldable chairs they had brought with them and watched as his boyfriend finished driving in the last nail to complete the set up of their tent. He had no idea what had overcome him when he had agreed to join Andrew and his friends on a camping trip.

Honestly, Lorenzo hated everything that came along with the activity.

The flies were already becoming a nuisance, and he knew that the bug problem would only get worse as night fell and the mosquitoes would make their appearance. There was a restroom stationed near the parking lot, but that was a bit of a hike from their campsite, which left them with no easy access to running water or even a toilet. And don't get him started about having to sleep on the ground. The idea alone just sounded uncomfortable, never mind actually having to do it for the next two nights.

But the worst part was the heat. Whoever's idea it was to go camping smack dab in the middle of the summer was an idiot. They hadn't even been at the campgrounds for more than an hour and Lorenzo could already feel sweat running down the back of his neck.

Swatting away another fly, Lorenzo scanned the area. He was thankful that the group had decided to rent four separate campsites, one for each couple, giving them all more room.

At the campsite to their right, Magnus was just tossing his and his husband's bags into their tent while Alec cooked what looked to be hotdogs on the grill. To the right of them was Jace and Clary's site, who seemed to also be getting something ready for their meal as well.

To his left was where Isabelle and Simon had set up their tent . . . or were at least trying to. Lorenzo couldn't help smirking in the direction of the awkward college student as one of the poles slid out of the canvas sleeves and snapped back to pop the poor kid in his mouth, causing him to cry out in surprise.

Chuckling softly at the scene, Lorenzo leaned forward in his chair to watch Isabelle crouch down next to Simon to check his injury before getting up to grab a towel for her boyfriend.

"At least you're finding something enjoyable out here," a voice spoke up behind Lorenzo's shoulder and he leaned back in his chair again to see his boyfriend walking up to him. "Though I wish it wasn't at the expense of someone else's pain." Andrew crossed his arms as he glared at him.

Lorenzo shrugged before smacking at a fly that had landed on his arm. "It distracted me from the bugs for a minute."

"Foods ready!" Alec called out.

At the mention of lunch, the aroma of grilled food in the air suddenly hit Lorenzo causing his stomach to growl.

Andrew grinned. "Hungry?"

"If you're referring to hot dogs, not likely," Lorenzo scowled, but he pushed himself out of his chair to join the others at the picnic table. He knew Andrew had heard his stomach anyways.

"There is way more to camping than hot dogs," Andrew promised. "You'll see. We'll turn you into a camper in no time."

Lorenzo sighed. At the very least, he knew he should try to go into this experience with an open mind. Who knows. Maybe he would find some aspect of this ordeal that he wouldn't completely hate.

"We'll see," Lorenzo said, resigning to his fate as he followed Andrew to the table. He wrapped one hand across his clammy forehead. "But I will be in desperate need of a shower after this."
