I do not own Yugioh Zexal or its related properties, but I do own this AU story and its ocs. Don't steal, and enjoy.

A boy with spiky platinum blonde hair and blue eyes wearing a pair of blue jeans, black boots, a white t shirt, and a grey long sleeve jacket was walking down the street with his dog, which was a cross between a Border Collie and a Finnish Spitz with short black fur, brown patches on her logs like socks, a brown muzzle, and a brown dot of fur above each of her brown eyes.

Their names were Troy and Lane respectively, and they had known each other their entire lives, and they had developed a strong bond with each other. They had just moved to Heartland City with Troy's older sister after his parents passed away and he was getting familiar with the neighborhood. Suddenly, Lane sniffed the air before beginning to bark.

Troy: What's wrong?

Suddenly, a deep voice called his name. He looked around but didn't see anybody.

Troy: Who's there? And how do you know me?

?: Troy, find me.

Troy: Who are you?

Lane whined before rubbing against his leg, trying to get his attention.

Troy: What is it?

Lane turned and stretched out, pointing to an ally where a shadowed figure was entering.

Troy: Wait!

He got to the alley and looked down it, but didn't see anyone.

Troy: Where are you?

?: Troy.

He followed the voice to the source and saw a card laying in the alley.

Troy: A card?

When he turned it over, he saw that it was an Xyz monster, but not like any he had ever seen before.

Troy: Number 89: Diablosis the Mind Hacker?

Suddenly, the card flashed a bright pink and he saw a vision. It was disjointed and hard to follow, but he can make out one thing: A man wearing a suit of black armor with a strange emblem on it, that had a large armored canine next to them, but what really caught his attention was that the person in the vision looked just like himself. The vision ended and Troy found himself back in the alley holding the card with Lane next to him.

Troy: What was that?

?: Hey there.

Troy turned around and saw a boy about his age standing at the end of the alley. Troy slipped the card he found into his pocket before going over to meet him.

Troy: Hi, I'm Troy Diablo. My sister and I just moved here, and this is my dog Lane. She's been by side just about my whole life. She's the best friend I could ever ask for.

?: Cool, my name is Yuma Tsukumo.

Troy: Wanna pet her?

Yuma: Is it safe?

Troy: Yeah, just stick your hand out so she can smell you first.

Yuma extended his hand towards Lane, who sniffed his hand for a moment before rubbing her head into his hand.

Yuma: Wow, she's really friendly.

Troy: Well, she's must think you're a good person, and she's got a pretty good track record when it comes to judging character.

Yuma: Hey, what was that bright flash I saw a minute ago?

Troy: I think it came from this.

He pulled out the card he found and showed it to Yuma.

Yuma: A number card?

Troy: You know what this is?

Yuma: Yeah, I have one too. Here's mine.

Troy: Number 39: Utopia. Looks cool.

Yuma: Weird, he has a number card, but he's not being affected by it. Well, I guess I'll see you in school tomorrow.

Troy: I guess so. I'll see you then.

As Yuma was leaving, Troy thought he saw a blue semi-transparent being appear next to Yuma but shrugged it off thinking he was just seeing things and went home with Lane. Meanwhile, Yuma and Astral were having a conversation about the boy Yuma just met.

Astral: Yuma, why did you allow him to keep the number card?

Yuma: Did you notice how he wasn't being affected by it? I think it'll be fine to leave it with him. Besides, it didn't look like he had his deck on him anyway.

Astral: Well Yuma, we should keep an eye on him just in case.

Yuma: Man, you can be such a buzz kill sometimes Astral.

Astral: How does one kill a buzz?

Yuma: It's just an expression!

Meanwhile, Troy had arrived home and was greeted by his sister Emma.

Emma: Hey little bro. You enjoy your walk?

Troy: Yeah. I met a kid named Yuma and I think we'll be good friends.

Emma: Look at you, making friends already. Anything else happen?

Troy: Yeah, I found this.

He pulled out Diablosis' card and showed it to his sister.

Emma: That looks like a strong card. That sure was a lucky find. Well, go wash up, dinner will be ready soon.

Troy: Okay sis.

Once dinner was over, Troy sat down at the desk in his room and started working on his deck. He had learned his school had a duel period, so he figured it would be a good chance to test out the monster he found today. Once he was satisfied with his deck, he brushed his teeth and slipped into bed. What he didn't notice was a faint pink glow coming from his desk. From his newest card to be exact.

Hey everyone. Troy's dog Lane was actually inspired by my childhood dog, which I had before my little brother was born. Sadly, she died a few years ago, and to tell the truth, it hit me like the death of a family member, because that's what she was to me. But in any case, enough about that. I hope you all enjoyed and continue to read the series as I release it.
