Let's give them hell

I sat in my quarters furious with myself. I hated that Jason had had to run to my aid. He still wasn't back yet and I was trying to stop myself from worrying, it'd been two hours. Maybe he was hurt. Just as my mind was about to go over the edge, there was a knock on my door. I stood and crossed the distance between me and my door "Yes?" I called.

"It's me, let me in." The unmistakable tone of Jason's voice modulator. I opened the door and he strode in, removing his helmet as he did and throwing it onto the bed.

"Are you okay?" I asked him.

"I should be asking you that. Yeah, I'm okay." He replied, plopping down in the only chair in the room.

"I'm sorry you had to come back for me. I should have anticipated his distract and capture." I sat on my bed, across from Jason.

"No, don't. I sent you in there, I should have anticipated that myself." he was looking at me in a way I wasn't used to. I blinked and looked at him.

"What are you looking at?" I asked, self consciously touching my face.

" He hit you?" it wasn't a real question.

" Yes, how do you think he grabbed me." I answered like it was obvious. Jason's face changed, he looked angrier than I'd ever seen him. He strode over to me and plucked me from the bed, making me stand in front of him, he bent forward and examined my cheek. His face was so close, I wanted to close my eyes and inhale deeply. I felt a finger run along my cheek, gently caressing the area.

"That's gonna be one hell of a bruise but he didn't break your cheekbone. He held back a lot." he placed his other hand on my other cheek. I felt my head being pulled forward.

"I guess that's a good thing?" I said, my breath catching.

"Mhmm." his voice was low and soft. He was definitely pulling my face towards him but he stopped an inch from his mouth, indecision painted his face.

"Jason." I said, softly. Trying my best to sound reassuring. "It's okay." and I closed the gap.

Our lips touched only briefly but it was enough to make my whole body weak. My breath caught in my throat, my head was spinning and I felt completely lightheaded. I glanced at Jason, his face blank. Not the look I expected." Did I do something wrong?" I asked, touching my mouth.

"No. Definitely not wrong." he answered. "But if you do that again, we're going to be late for the next phase and we can't afford to be that late." he kissed my bruised cheek, so softly it felt like the brush of a feather and put his helmet back on. He tossed mine to me and headed towards the door.

"Where too, sir?" I asked, my helmet clicking into place.

"Debrief. Wait, why was that here and not on your face when you took on the bat?" he pointed to my helmet.

"It was being repaired, the modulator was damaged. I had to settle with a mask." I answered.

"That explains why he held back. His intention was to interrogate you, it's why you didn't pass out. From now on, helmet. Always. If it needs repairing, it's done immediately, before a mission or in the field." he sounded a little angry, he pulled open the door with a little too much force and stomped out, heavy boots echoing down the hall. I blinked after him, watching his silhouette disappear and tentatively followed behind him, trying to put space between us.

"Men, it's time to take this threat seriously. I've taught you everything I know about Batman, but you mustn't underestimate him. Clover is the best out of all of you and he almost captured her tonight due to an outdated tactic he hasn't used for years, so I did not anticipate it. So how could she?" Jason was adding his final warning to the men after the debriefing, he did this every time. They needed to know that Batman sounded easy to defeat on paper and in stories, but up close he was a behemoth and very tactile. The stories told to us by Jason did zero justice to the imposing threat the Bat was. I sat far away from the men, helmet firmly in place. None of these men knew my face and I fully intended to keep it that way.

The men were starting to leave when I finally came out of my thoughts. Jason approached me as I came back to reality, "Lieutenant, did I pull you from a thought?" Jason asked, formal due to some men still meandering out of the room.

"No, Sir. The briefing went well and I'm sure your warning is now drilled into them." I replied, staring down a couple of grunts who were trying to eavesdrop. They quickly gathered their belongings and practically ran from the room. "Newbies." I remarked. I heard a low, pleasant chuckle come from Jason. My heart jumped, it was glorious. I felt a smile under my helmet.

"So about earlier," he mentioned, running a finger along my neck. "Was that gratefulness?" he asked, his hand lingering at my throat.

"It was partly, yes." I felt my breath tremble, so did he. The hand near my throat inched closer and my breath caught. Suddenly, that godforsaken hand was around my throat, his body pressing me into the wall. The noise that left me was unholy.

"Interesting. Your first lie to me, Cass." the hand around my throat tightened just a little, he knew exactly where to use the pressure. He was completely teasing me, in the most dangerous way.

"The men…they could...come back." I gasped out.

"And it'll look like I'm threatening you with your life. Which I am, just a little." there was a dark chuckle. A squeak escaped me, my cheeks immediately burned. I was blushing. Blushing! There was that chuckle again. "I like you like this, submissive. But only to me." he growled the last part.

"Yes, sir." I felt completely weak.

"That's my good girl. Now, head out before the Soldiers think I've murdered you." he released me and I had to take a moment to regain the control of my legs.

"Goodnight, Jason." I whispered. "Goodnight, Cass." he taunted and I quickly left. I rushed back to my quarters to get my grip back, I'd definitely awoken something in Jason with that small kiss. I splashed water over my face and headed back out, my duties awaiting.

AN: I'm sorry it's taken so long to get this chapter up, I've had terrible writers block. I hope this little teaser makes up for it. Happy reading! x
