Chapter 4 - The Upper City
"A Question Of Faith"

I left the poor city and entered the wealthy
In order to blend in, I must remain stealthy

The tram's movement halted within a small station
My foremost objective is Umah's salvation

This place, I must say, is quite lovely indeed
But that won't suppress my desire to feed

The people are noblemen rather than peasants
They don't seem to know humans die in my presence

A woman observed as I stepped off the tram
Of course, she did not seem to know who I am

She said she had heard there were vampires here
To most humans' babble I turn a deaf ear

She carelessly spoke as though I was her friend
Not fully aware that her life would soon end

I care not to hear any more of her prattle
However affluent, all humans are cattle

I killed her and fed on the blood from her shell
Two witnesses fled and I killed them as well

The moment their screams were all silenced, I fed
Thereafter, I followed the passage ahead

I made my way in to a large gated square
Observing two guards with an unblinking stare

They said that the gates had been closed for the night
And strangely had little intention to fight

They said that I just might as well move along
They thought I was human and they were quite wrong

And so, I killed both of the guards where they stand
And then left the square with a sword in my hand

Thereafter, I followed a vaporous trail
Approaching a man I intend to assail

My deadly advancement was slightly too slow
A thug killed the human with one single blow

Indeed, being robbed of my kill sparked my ire
But killing the thug would assuage my desire

It made little difference; they would have both died
I fed and then followed the stairs to the side

Upon my descent further into this place
Another vampire remembered my face

He slowly approached from behind a closed gate
His voice and demeanor were laden with hate

Apparently hearing about my return
My old ally Marcus was quite taciturn

He plainly denied we had ever been friends
Of course, I could see how his loyalty bends

It seems he's refused to abandon the past
I tried to kill Marcus when we had met last

He thought that I feared how his powers have grown
That they would one day overshadow my own

He even believed I once begged for his aid
But there was no side on which he would have stayed

If ever in battle I begged for assistance
I'd lose the esteem of the vampire Resistance

And then Marcus said in my arrogant pride
I made the mistake of believing he died

He may have been weakened, but clearly not dead
He said he departed his haven and fled

Now this was the Marcus I seem to recall
A treacherous snake with no courage at all

The moment my army was brutally slain
He viewed all our kind with the utmost disdain

He flaunted his lack of an honest accord
By choosing to follow the Sarafan Lord

I knew he was always a cowardly fool
For giving himself to the favoring rule

How sad my poor aim caused him so much despair
He may have survived, but this time I won't err

He says I discredit his power once more
His strength has increased since the end of that war

The Dark Gifts are different for each of our kind
He now has the power to steal one's mind

His victims would act on his every decree
He then tried to use this dark power on me

With relative ease I resisted his hold
He seemed unaware I could not be controlled

What creatures has Marcus made into his slaves?
The men that we feed on and send to their graves?

Although he could only beguile the weak
He learned all the thoughts which I didn't yet speak

He knew that I seek a particular man
But not the entire extent of my plan

Admittedly this was a devious trick
And now I can see I would need to be quick

I wouldn't lose sight; I must follow his trail
He said he'd ensure that my efforts would fail

I might find the Bishop, but he would be dead
Then Marcus escaped through the tunnel ahead

In personal combat, he stands little chance
He summoned two clerics to slow my advance

They both drew their weapons, attempting to fight
Of course they were simply no match for my might

Their weapons were shaped like the Sarafan's symbol
However, these men were not strikingly nimble

And then I devoured the blood of each priest
Approaching the gate once I finished this feast

I lifted the gate and I quickly passed under
And as I progressed, I could not help but wonder

No human's life ever concerned me at all
However, two clerics lay dead near each wall

Their clubs were still here and their shells were not dry
What reason was there for these clerics to die?

Regardless of why they were killed, I would feed
Then follow wherever this passage would lead

I passed through the door to a watery room
With any misstep, I would fall to my doom

And then I saw Marcus, apparently waiting
For me to step into this trap he was baiting

He summoned more clerics and then, of course, fled
And so I must pass through the tunnel ahead

So now, I must rotate the bridge, it appears
To pass the one thing every vampire fears

In order to follow where Marcus has gone
I made my way down, and my weapon was drawn

I reached the next staircase, and this time, ascended
Where two clerics stood and their lives would be ended

But rather than strike them until they were downed
I tossed them below, and so, both of them drowned

My search for the Bishop would not go awry
I crossed a small bridge to the structure nearby

The wheel to rotate the bridge was inside
Of course, in this room one more cleric would hide

I killed him and then I placated my thirst
By turning the wheel, the bridge was reversed

And as the bridge turned, I approached with great haste
I turned it again; there was no time to waste

I then crossed the bridge once it came to a halt
Determined to deal with any assault

To vacate this room, I ascended the stairs
And drew my sword not to be caught unawares

This tunnel must bear the escape I am seeking
And as I advanced, I could hear two thugs speaking

With humans' affairs we must not be concerned
I silently killed one the moment I turned

The other attempted to kill me and failed
I lifted him up; he would soon be impaled

The moment I ceased both their heartbeats, I fed
And then I progressed with a cold sense of dread

And once I arrived at the end of this route
I cautiously opened the door and stepped out

I have little time to digress or relent
Ahead was a ladder; I made my ascent

And so, I escaped from this tunnel at last
Though Marcus is weak, he is cunning and fast

Although by a gate I was physically barred
I saw him approaching a Sarafan guard

The guard drew his sword when he saw him, of course
But Marcus would sway him with words and not force

To bring him away to the Bishop's abode
And fiercely ensure that my progress is slowed

He ordered the guard to fulfill his desire
The guard said they seek a specific vampire

But Marcus convinced him he favors their cause
And Kain is the one to be killed without pause

To most of the guards, we're exactly the same
He said I would not simply tell him my name

Instructing the guard to destroy me on sight
He boarded a carriage and rode through the night

I opened the gate and passed through to the streets
Observing the guards and the haughty elites

Then Vorador spoke to me once I passed through
To tell me, of course, what I needed to do

To locate the Bishop's palatial estate
The first to arrive would determine his fate

For only he knows of the path I must take
For Umah as well as the whole Cabal's sake

The curfew had recently taken effect
But this would not make me less bold or direct

And even if I am not overly vicious
The guards would kill anyone looking suspicious

Then Vorador had nothing left to disclose
But I would kill freely if trouble arose

I then killed a man who was standing nearby
And after I fed, I looked up near the sky

A large structure stands in the distance beyond
But to its dark call I could not yet respond

A closed gate prevents me from going that way
Withal, I believe I must go there one day

I turned and then followed the path straight ahead
And into the mist I would carefully tread

Concealing myself just a moment too late
I roused both the guards from their unwary state

They brandished their weapons and searched warily
I wasn't quite sure that they wouldn't find me

One slowly approached with a vigilant eye
I circled around him and soon he would die

I crept up behind him and cleaved his midsection
His ally still scouted the other direction

I waited until he decided to check
Then forcefully plunged my own sword through his neck

As always, I fed on their blood once they died
This space is quite vacant, with nowhere to hide

One human ran off; I allowed him to flee
There's no time to kill every person I see

I followed this path to the end of the street
Observed by a guard I would swiftly defeat

His death would be quick, but no mercy was shown
And now I shall use this man's sword as my own

The doors ahead couldn't be opened, alas
Though luckily there was a gate I could pass

I passed one more human whose life I would spare
I opened the gate once I made my way there

I opened another identical gate
Prepared for whatever new perils await

And then by a rogue I was suddenly struck
But that single blow was the end of her luck

I brought this thief down with conspicuous ease
She died shortly after she fell to her knees

By one other rogue I was also assailed
She also attempted to kill me, and failed

A sword spills more blood than a dagger or mace
And so, I continued my trek through this place

I knew I must make my way up to progress
This effort to stop me would bear no success

The ladder I need to ascend has been shattered
Nearby was a crate, so this bind hardly mattered

I dragged it below where the ladder was hung
And then I leapt up, taking hold of a rung

The ledge that the ladder ascends to is low
Regardless, this path leads to where I must go

This ladder, however, is fully intact
And once I ascend, I won't fail to act

And once I completed this lingering climb
The rogue standing guard didn't see me this time

Of course, she would pay with her life for that blunder
And after I fed, I looked down with great wonder

The thief must have been in the midst of her thieving
She killed an unfortunate man before leaving

I've slaughtered aggressors and weaklings alike
But none have been killed by a singular strike

I floated down carefully not to be heard
She had her back turned, so her sight was obscured

I unsheathed my sword as I slowly drew near
And killed her before she could tell I was here

I then took a moment to savor this meal
And opened the doors as I turned a small wheel

And so, I stepped out to the balcony's edge
A villager stands on a disparate ledge

Directly ahead, this unwary man stands
Not knowing that he would soon die at my hands

I vaulted his way, but he stepped to the side
And soon he retreated, attempting to hide

I entered the next room, where two guards await
I have little choice but to seal their fate

The first guard approached, and of course, I was ready
I drew my own weapon and held my gaze steady

Before he could thrust, I moved quickly around
And clutched his throat, lifting him off of the ground

I bludgeoned his face with the hilt of my sword
And then by the blade, he was fatally gored

I briefly returned to the room that I left
The other guard struck me, but I was more deft

Approaching the window, I hindered each stroke
And hurled him down; this assault was a joke

I'd not waste my time on the blood of one man
But locate the Bishop as quick as I can

Returning, I fed from the first guard I killed
For now, my desire for blood is fulfilled

The human I tried once to kill is still here
He stands in a corner and cowers in fear

I knew that he wouldn't elude me again
Unsheathing my weapon, I finished him then

With no other choice than to further explore
I followed the staircase and opened the door

Descending more stairs, I arrived at a gate
The path just behind it appears fairly straight

I opened the gate and passed through cautiously
One guard sensed my presence, eventually

I might as well face him; there's nowhere to hide
Then savor the blood that his corpse would provide

And once I had done this, I entered the haze
Avoiding the guards and their adamant gaze

Regardless, I murdered them both, anyhow
This street has been purged of its irritants now

I lowered a switch once my thirst had been sated
The door opened slowly; I patiently waited

I entered the building, and soon, I stepped out
Approaching a switch I must lower, no doubt

And once this was done, the Glyph rapidly flowed
I now have a way to depart from this road

Once more, I had opened a gate to the street
Prepared to destroy any threat I would meet

This lever would certainly raise the gate high
But not if the guard would observe me nearby

By using the mist, I would pass through unseen
And then kill the guard in a way quite unclean

I fed from his corpse as he stagnantly bled
Then lowered the switch near the gate just ahead

I entered a courtyard and heard water flowing
And soon I could see where I need to be going

This passage is where I must go, it would seem
But not before ceasing this watery stream

I knew where to go, but before I absconded
I battled a guard when his armor responded

I killed him, of course, with one furious blow
And fed once his armor was drained of its glow

I heard water flowing down one other wall
And as I approached, it continued to fall

However, by this, I would not be dismayed
By turning a wheel, I ceased this cascade

I turned to the staircase and made my way there
A Glyph guard observed me, but I didn't care

I made my ascent and proceeded to fight
He'll instantly die if he falls from this height

This bumbling guard was too weak and too slow
I hurled him into the fountain below

In doing so, I was unable to feed
For now, though, I have all the blood that I need

And so I crossed over with one massive leap
A guard stands ahead; through the mist I would creep

There's no need to kill him; I did anyhow
And then turned a wheel; my way is clear now

To follow the path, I was fully compelled
I fed from the guard; now my hunger is quelled

I leapt down and followed this newly cleared route
This must be the way; I have minimal doubt

By turning a wheel, I opened a gate
And straight ahead, three vile ruffians wait

And once I stepped in, I appeared to be stuck
The thugs raised the gate in a moment of luck

At first, they approached individually
In moments, of course, I was facing all three

My sword would soon break; I had nowhere to run
However, I brought these fools down one by one

I fed from their corpses and left with a mace
Though crude, it will kill any rival I face

There's nothing left here in this place I could gain
To wield this thing for a time I must deign

I passed through the door with no time to delay
Departing the tunnel, a stone's throw away

I opened the gate to a courtyard ahead
However, another gate closed in it's stead

And so I must go through these gates, I assume
A guard stands ahead, unaware of his doom

I entered the courtyard and killed the guard first
Then, after I did so, I sated my thirst

I fed on his blood; now my strength is restored
Discarding the mace, I now carry his sword

And then I detected a crate on one side
This thing will indeed keep the gate opened wide

At each of these walls were two clefts in the ground
By using two switches, the stone could be downed

Between all the holes is a valve I must turn
To empty the water, avoiding its burn

One channel is full when the other is drained
With steady adjustments, no harm is sustained

I drained the first channel before I stepped in
Entirely filling the channel akin

Releasing the Glyph, I would follow its flow
It made its way down to the switch I must throw

I crossed to the other side, draining the well
I lowered the switch, and of course, the stone fell

I leapt out and shifted the water anew
So that I could harmlessly push the stone through

I pulled it aside to the end of the hole
This gate is no longer beyond my control

I lowered the lever and trusted my guess
It seems that my efforts were met with success

The second gate opened; the first did not close
And now I must go through the door, I suppose

Revolving a wheel, I opened the door
I passed through and Vorador Whispered once more

It seems yet again I must pass through a gate
But now I am close to the Bishop's estate

He says that the guards have locked down every street
Perhaps they would fall for a simple deceit

The workers' shifts alter with each passing hour
And so, I must locate the bell in the tower

They'll open the gates upon hearing the bell
Then Vorador had no more secrets to tell

I then heard two humans converse in the mist
My hunger returned, and I wouldn't resist

I killed the man first while remaining discreet
Although he was dead, he was still on his feet

And then as I fed, he did not move at all
And after I finished, he still didn't fall

I had little doubt that the woman would flee
However, no human can run far from me

Approaching the tower, I caught two guards' eyes
These cretins would shortly be cut down to size

I halted their blows before striking my own
Until both their corpses fell down to the stone

My thirst was relieved once their blood was devoured
One human still lives; I ignored this dull coward

I made my way into the tower nearby
For Vorador has little reason to lie

I spotted the bell; it palpated the ground
Down here, it could simply deliver no sound

And so, I must lower a large counterweight
Before this, I must reposition a crate

And once this was done, I ascended the stairs
To see what devices the upper floor bears

The moment I'd done this, I knew what to do
To rotate the wheel and pull the switch too

I swiveled the wheel; the counterweight fell
Returned to the switch, I exploited the bell

Producing a sound none would fail to hear
The bell drew the workers; my path is now clear

And now that my business in here is complete
I leapt down and made my return to the street

Because of these humans, my path was prepared
And so, in return, both their lives would be spared

The Glyph guard would not be so fortunate though
He brandished his sword and I halted each blow

As always, I killed him eventually
There's no one left here who would dare hinder me

I fed once I killed him, increasing my power
And Marcus will die within this very hour

I passed through the gate, and crossed over the water
Ignoring the men that I chose not to slaughter

I lowered a switch where the path seems to end
And now I must wait for the lift to descend

The next switch I pulled elevated the lift
I leapt to a building with Faustus' gift

I managed to land on its outermost edge
And entered a room, stepping down from the ledge

A human observed as I made my way in
And soon all his blood will be drained from his skin

I spared the few men I had just left behind
To this one however, I won't be so kind

And so, he was swiftly brought down by my blade
I fed from his corpse and I felt my thirst fade

I brazenly entered the next room ahead
Descending the staircase in front of the bed

Although the door didn't appear to be locked
A guard stands below, so my progress was blocked

He ruthlessly fought, so I couldn't depart
Until I had thrust my own sword through his heart

And once I eventually finished this pest
I simply devoured his blood and progressed

With nothing left here in this room to be done
I passed through a door and continued to run

Descending a staircase, my weapon was drawn
And soon I could see one more Sarafan pawn

There's no way of passing this guard undetected
And so, I must kill him and feed, I suspected

I hastily killed him with little resistance
And looted his sword once I ceased his existence

I followed the stairs to a courtyard below
And soon I could tell where I needed to go

I heard two men speak of the Sarafan's reign
For which I have only the utmost disdain

Immediately, I killed both of these fools
A vampire only obeys his own rules

And once every drop of their blood was devoured
I searched for a way that the gate to be powered

To do so, it seems I must move a large stone
But how I would do this, I hadn't yet known

Conveniently, there are two ladders right here
They both seem to lead to the same upper tier

There must be an answer this room would reveal
And once I ascended, I spotted a wheel

I'd guess that it alters each cage's position
I looked once I turned it, which proves my suspicion

It lowers one cage as the other is lifted
However, the stone near the wall could be shifted

Returning below, where the massive stone lay
The light ceased to shine when I pulled it away

And as I continued to force the stone out
I witnessed two guards gallivanting about

Propelling the stone to a more open space
I pushed it until it was almost in place

I briefly returned to the room straight above
The stone would be in with just one final shove

I then repositioned the cages anew
And once I leapt down, I knew just what to do

I pushed the stone in and the Glyph was released
And just past the gates I observed my next feast

And so, I divided the gates with the lever
The two guards ahead shall soon slumber forever

They both drew their swords as I passed through the gate
And turned to confront me a moment too late

Through both flesh and armor, I easily hacked
I killed them before they could even react

The guards weren't alone in this region, it seems
I fed from their corpses and then heard two screams

These men tried to run when they witnessed me feeding
And tried to escape me, with neither succeeding

They both ran surprisingly far, I admit
But in the end, both of their throats would be slit

I fed from their corpses; my work is complete
There's nobody left here to kill or defeat

And once I could feel my hunger abate
I entered the building just past the next gate

A guard stands ahead on the staircase nearby
He foolishly stands in my way; he will die

Like all of the others, this guard was too slow
I pulled my sword free, and his blood would soon flow

I followed the staircase adjoining the wall
And passed through the door at the end of the hall

Although the next street was apparently clear
I had a grim feeling that Marcus was near

He entered a building one sentry defends
But with me the guards were to make no amends

I followed the stairs yet again to the street
No longer intent on remaining discreet

As Marcus approached the esteemed Bishop's dwelling
I gathered the knowledge two humans were telling

The first human said he had three crates of wine
His duty, it seems, is quite kindred to mine

To locate the Bishop, he also aspires
His friend was about to reduce his desires

The guards had been called for a thorough inspection
And nothing would ever escape their detection

With no other findings or words left to say
The humans dispersed; I would go on my way

Though tempted to kill them, I chose to resist
I followed the street to a trail of mist

With this entrance barred, other plans must be made
And soon, I heard one guard reproaching his aide

But rather than eavesdrop, I killed them instead
Replacing my weapon right after I fed

I faced a third guard once I finished these two
I brandished my sword and my strikes would be true

With all of them finished, I wouldn't remain
But locate the Bishop before he is slain

With nothing left here, I ascended the stairs
Besides killing Marcus, I suffer no cares

There's little else here and no blood to devour
By climbing a ladder, I entered a tower

The two windows here hardly had any glass
And so, I was easily able to pass

I reached the next tower and passed through the door
I witnessed a guard strike a man to the floor

I've seen rogues and cutpurses do such a deed
And I only do so because I must feed

I knew not his reasons, and couldn't care less
He then tried to strike me with little success

I brought him down swiftly with one single blow
And after I fed, I continued to go

I know not how mist reached a windowless room
However, this means there's more blood to consume

I entered the next room; a guard stands alert
But that was a battle I plan to avert

And so, I leapt over the railing instead
For now, there was no need for blood to be shed

The rest had been sealed, but one door was loose
The next room was barren, with nothing of use

At first, the next room appeared empty as well
But someone was here, I could easily tell

And soon, I could see that I wasn't alone
A heavily armored man made himself known

I'm trapped in this room with a Sarafan Knight
And so, I have no other choice but to fight

He hindered my strikes; I admit he is strong
I could not allow this to go on too long

I needed to whittle him down, I suspect
For striking him blindly has little effect

Then after he struck me, his power decreased
I thrust my own weapon until his life ceased

I pilfered his axe once I knew he was dead
And after I claimed this new weapon, I fed

A massive shelf suddenly moved to the side
A human appeared, looking quite horrified

I questioned his business; he fearfully stuttered
The Bishop's good butler, he quietly muttered

The guards had been searching his home, so he ran
And then I continued to question this man

He must be informed of the passage I seek
One way or another, I'll get him to speak

The Bishop was charged with assisting our kind
And they would apply any proof that they find

His only desire is not to be found
And now, to my service this human is bound

I need only know where the Bishop would be
His cowardice caused him to speak foolishly

Not sure if he knew where the Bishop was hiding
He failed to tell me where he was residing

I told him that Vorador sent me this way
And if he won't help me, he'll certainly pay

He said the Cathedral is where he'll be found
But none would be swayed by the holiest ground

To reach the Cathedral, I must go northeast
He said I would need to be sanctioned, at least

I need no credentials; his life is at stake
Or else, I would leave this man's corpse in my wake

He now understands he must help me or die
At last, he was willingly prompt to comply

Because he so graciously showed me the path
I made the decision to spare him my wrath

I know not precisely where I had been led
However, I saw a small gate just ahead

The ornate cathedral was well within view
The human's directions, it seems have been true

And so, I progressed, but could not yet abscond
My presence incited a guard to respond

His efforts to kill me would certainly fail
Repeatedly striking, to little avail

And when his strength ebbed, I was not unaware
With one hand, I lifted him up to the air

My weapon, though cumbersome, severed his head
And once the life drained from his body, I fed

The guard who had witnessed this opened the gate
He must be quite eager to share his friend's fate

I killed him as well in a similar fashion
To me, a swift kill is an act of compassion

I passed through the gate and beheaded a priest
And fed from his corpse once his movements had ceased

I strode through a wall after pulling a stone
And soon I could see I would not be alone

A priest drew his weapon as I had encroached
I clenched mine as well as he quickly approached

I ended his life with this puissant blade
And after I fed, I continued my raid

I followed the graveyard, maintaining my stride
Despite all the mist, there was no need to hide

These Sarafan clerics are hardly a threat
But I would consume any blood I could get

With this many, though, I would need to be wary
Until I have left this conserved cemetery

I followed the path just beyond the next wall
I'll not let the good Bishop's murder befall

I turned once again and I followed the trail
Two clerics beset me, and they too, would fail

And now I can see I have made it quite far
The edifice had its gates broadly ajar

I crossed through the gate and I entered the tomb
A stone filled a part of each wall in this room

Not all of these stones could be moved, I would guess
The ones that I could, raised the gate, nonetheless

The path is now clear; I departed this vault
Determined to face any further assault

Another two clerics would stand in my way
But this was no more than a final delay

In this meager space, they could not be evaded
I struck them until their vitality faded

Devouring their blood once the battle was won
My trek through this graveyard is finally done

I passed through the doorway and halls unimpeded
My efforts to locate the Bishop succeeded

I slowly approached him and made my plans clear
By Vorador's orders, I made my way here

Attempting to speak, he could utter no sound
I grimly assumed that his tongue had been bound

Unfortunately, we were not there alone
As Marcus stepped out from behind the grand throne

He says that he speaks only when he permits
He has not my strength, but exceeds me in wits

He said my arrival was simply too late
And this was the Bishop's calamitous fate

I might spare his life, should he sunder his hold
But still, he remained disaffected and cold

A vile demand was his only reply
Surrender myself, or the Bishop would die

A mere human's life is of minimal worry
But I would kill Marcus with all of my fury

He's turned on his kind just to save his own skin
And still, he believes he will honestly win

As long as the Bishop is stripped of his voice
I needed to fight; I have no other choice

Believing my efforts have all been for naught
He also believed he could never be caught

But I would pursue him wherever he flees
And also destroy him with pleasure and ease

He fled through the door, and his downfall is nigh
He made his return to the street; so did I

I opened the as he spinelessly ran
And I would pursue him across any span

I followed the street; I have been here before
And as I approached, Marcus lowered a door

However, I raised it as soon as it closed
Behind it, a ladder was clearly exposed

Approaching the ladder, I quickly ascended
I care not how long this pursuit is extended

I clambered one more to a much higher tier
Of course, Marcus leapt once he knew I was near

I easily crossed, though the distance was vast
I seem to have reached the cathedral at last

I leapt through the window and rose to the peak
No longer delayed from the vengeance I seek

He stands on the rooftop; I leapt there as well
However, it crumbled, and both of us fell

I rose to my feet and he vanished from sight
Ensconcing himself in the shadows to fight

He constantly ran while remaining concealed
With each blow he struck, he was briefly revealed

Although he could strike and then run far from me
The sound of the bells caused him great agony

Each time that I rang them, he suddenly froze
At each of these moments, I struck my own blows

He summoned two clerics to sever the ropes
This wouldn't do much to diminish my hopes

Too craven to face me directly, he fled
While summoning clerics to do so instead

Ascending the stairs where he certainly ran
I had to devise an alternative plan

Assailed by clerics, I killed them as well
I tossed every one of them into a bell

The impact undoubtedly shattered their bones
And now I must follow the agonized moans

And then I would strike him as much as I could
Repeating this, I would defeat him for good

At last, his resilience proceeded to falter
He fell to his death on the candlelit altar

And then I leapt down to the base of this tower
Absorbing his veins, I obtained a new power

For those who betray me, I feel no pity
I'm nearly prepared to depart from this city

If Marcus had joined me, he may have survived
And once I destroyed him, the Bishop arrived

He gave me his thanks for destroying that fiend
He would have been killed had I not intervened

I told him that Marcus was easy to slay
And also, that Vorador sent me this way

I spoke of the Sarafan Keep once again
And Umah's abduction by bloodthirsty men

He told me that going there wouldn't be wise
And those who dare trespass would meet their demise

He willingly showed me the way, nonetheless
My path is now clear; it was time to egress
