It was still dark when Kali woke from where she was now lying on top of Sawyer's makeshift bed, a blanket draped over her shoulders. In the dim light, she was able to make out Sawyer's figure a metre away, barely awake, with Aaron still tucked up in his arms. She allowed her gaze to lie on him for a few more moments, a smile tugging at her lips. For such a gruff man, he certainly seemed to have a way with babies. The smile quickly fell from her face, as Kali felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Slowly, she turned her head towards the tent entrance, her eyes widening when she saw a figure sitting in the sand. Kali was frozen to the spot, fear flooding through her as her eyes adjusted in the dark. From the flicker of light coming from outside the entrance, she could make out the figure was a woman, her long hair coming to rest just above her waist. The next thing that hit her was the sound. The woman was making an awful gurgling sound as if she was drowning. Kali's eyes flickered to the sand beneath the woman, watching droplets of liquid roll down her arms. Cautiously, Kali reached out for the flashlight that she knew Sawyer kept by his makeshift bed and flicked the switch on. She couldn't stop the scream that left her lips, as the woman's face was illuminated. Blood was spilling down the figure's chest, her neck sliced open from ear to ear, her mouth gagged. Kali dropped the flashlight, her hands shaking so bad, as Sawyer rushed towards her, Aaron still clutched in his arm.

"Kali? Kali, what's wrong?" Sawyer exclaimed, reaching out to touch her shoulder.

"There was a woman…she…she was just there!" Kali cried, grabbing the torch from the sand and shining it towards the entrance.

Kali's frown deepened when she saw there was no one there, her heart still beating madly in her chest. Had she been hallucinating? She turned back to Sawyer, worry clear on his face, as he squeezed her shoulder.

"Hey, it was just a nightmare. You're okay" Sawyer insisted, coming to crouch down in front of her.

"Y-you don't understand, she…she looked like—" Kali began, but he was quick to cut her off.

"It wasn't real. There's no one there, it's just me and you, okay? It's just us" Sawyer soothed, his hand trailing down her arm, as he linked their hands together.

"Don't do that" Kali sighed, pulling her hand away, refusing to look at him.

As if Aaron could feel the tension in the air, he suddenly woke up, letting out a loud wail. Kali made a gesture with her arms, and soon Sawyer had passed the baby over to her. She pushed herself to her feet, swaying her arms back and forth, humming quietly to herself. Aaron reached out with his little hands to grab a strand of her hair, giving it a small tug, making Kali laugh.

"You're lucky I like you, Aaron. I don't let most people near my hair" Kali told him, as he began to suck on the few strands in his hand.

"You let me touch it" Sawyer stated, leaning back on his hands, a smug look on his face.

"Well, your rights are officially revoked" Kali retorted, watching him roll his eyes.

It didn't take long for Aaron to settle down again, much to both their relief. Kali could see the sun was starting to come up now, light streaming in from the tent entrance. She crouched down to sit opposite Sawyer, sitting crossed legged, popping Aaron in the middle, still supporting his head.

"You look like you haven't slept in days" Sawyer informed her, as she huffed.

"You're still all charm I see" Kali muttered, keeping her eyes on Aaron.

"You got all you need in your tent? Cause' I can—" Sawyer started, but she quickly cut him off.

"That's not why I haven't been sleeping" Kali scoffed.

"I ain't exactly been getting much shut-eye either" Sawyer replied, as she quirked an eyebrow.

"The guilt getting to you?" She sneered, a cruel tone to her voice.

"…I shouldn't have said what I did" Sawyer mumbled; his eyes downcast.

"No, you shouldn't have…it hit a little too close to home" Kali admitted, as Sawyer's eyes softened.

"No one on this island hates you, blue eyes. I don't think it's even possible to hate you" Sawyer insisted.

"Not even if I tell everyone about that time you tried on pink satin—" Kali began, a smile spreading over her face.

"Not even then" Sawyer finished, matching her expression.

"Why'd you say all that? Why'd you push me away? What changed?" Kali couldn't help but ask, her eyes connecting with Sawyer's, but he broke his gaze quickly.

"You should try to get some sleep" Sawyer replied, pushing himself to his feet, effortlessly picking Aaron up from her lap.

"If you want me to forgive you, then you've got to start being honest with me" Kali told him, as Sawyer turned his back on her.

She let out a long sigh after getting no reply, moving to rest her chin on her hands, feeling her eyes growing heavy. Kali couldn't understand why he—

Her mouth went dry when she spotted something on the sand by the entrance of the tent. Blood. A few small droplets that stained the golden sand a sickening red colour. She felt a shiver run down her spine, her mind going back to what she had been about to say earlier before Sawyer cut her off. Why did the woman with her neck cut…look like her?

Claire arrived back at camp early the next morning, unable to find the medicine for Aaron, but she had regained all her memories now. Aaron had also improved by that time, his rash fading and becoming more settled. The whole camp had let out a sigh of relief when Jack gave the baby the all-clear. Claire had thanked her for looking after Aaron, earning little more than an embarrassed nod from Kali, who was uncomfortable due to the praise.

"So, you guys didn't find anything?" Kali asked.

"We found where I was being kept, but the whole place had been abandoned. It looked like they had been storing a lot of documents there, but most had been burnt" Claire explained, as Kali tilted her head.

"Most?" She frowned, as Kate grabbed a handful of papers from her backpack.

"This is all that was left. The edges are burnt but you can still make out some of the words" Kate told her, handing her the documents.

"These are photocopies of medical records…" Kali trailed off, her eyes widening.

"There are a few dates in the margins, 1989, 1990…it goes on for a couple of years" Kate went on, as Kali's eyes scanned through the documents.

"It's for a child" Kali realised, feeling sick as the pages went on.

"What?" Kate gaped.

"The patient still has baby teeth…God, it sounds like this kid turned up in A&E every month" Kali mumbled, making Claire frown.

"A&E?" She questioned.

"It's like the English version of ER…which means these documents are from there" Kali stated.

"Do you think these documents might be for one of the Others?" Kate inquired, as Kali shook her head.

"I don't know, why would—" Kali cut herself off when she spotted a familiar name.

Ken.

Just seeing her brother's name felt like a punch to the gut. It was too much of a coincidence to think that the documents could be for anyone else. Why the hell were his medical records on the island?

"Kali, are you okay?" Claire questioned, seeing her Kali had paled.

"Uh, yeah. I'm fine. I'll just have a closer look at these in my tent" Kali replied, a fake smile on her face.

"Maybe we should get Jack to—" Kate began, but Kali cut her off instantly.

"No! No, I've got this. Just…leave it to me, okay?" Kali insisted, backing up a few steps.

She rushed back towards her tent, cursing herself for pitching it so far away. Kali felt like she was close to hyperventilating by the time she could see the makeshift tent. Just as she reached out to pull the tent flaps open, a hand reached out to touch her arm, making her jump.

"Woah, woah. It's just me" Sawyer exclaimed, holding his hands up.

"Sawyer, I really can't deal with your shit right now" Kali mumbled, storming into her tent.

She let out a long sigh when she heard him follow her a moment later, and turned to see his forehead wrinkled with worry. He could tell something was wrong.

"Claire and Kate found medical records in the jungle. Look at the name" Kali announced, thrusting the papers towards him.

Sawyer's eyes quickly found the name that had Kali so freaked out, his own eyes wide. He ran a hand through his shaggy hair, as he read on, the details of the patient's injuries making him feel sick.

"How old would he have been?" Sawyer questioned.

"Ten…maybe eleven. He must have…it doesn't make sense…" Kali stuttered, her breathing quickening.

"Kali, you can't think he did this to himself? Even the nurses in here say they thought your parents—" Sawyer started, but she cut him off, her hand raised.

"They wouldn't do that!" She exclaimed, anger lacing her voice.

"…You never talk about your parents" Sawyer mumbled, not daring to look her in the eyes.

"I blocked out most of my childhood, okay? But I wouldn't…they didn't deserve what happened to them!" Kali insisted.

"I'm not saying they did. But are you sure they never…?" Sawyer trailed off, not sure how to finish the sentence.

"It's fake. It must be fake. It's my brother trying to manipulate me again" Kali suggested, as Sawyer bit the inside of his cheek.

"Why would he do that? These records have all been burnt. Someone didn't want them found" Sawyer explained, as Kali shook her head.

"I know who my parents were" Kali exclaimed, her voice shaky.

"Look, I get it. Better than anyone. Finding out what your parents were capable of, it's not easy" Sawyer tried to soothe, taking a step towards her.

"It's not the same! Just because your father was a fucking monster, doesn't mean mine was!" Kali spat out, anger in her eyes.

Sawyer's jaw tensed, looking like he had just been slapped in the face by her words. Kali's eyes quickly softened, shaking her head a little, knowing she had taken it too far.

"…I guess I deserved that" Sawyer muttered, turning around, and quickly marching out of the tent before Kali could stop him.

Kali had been on edge ever since her argument with Sawyer, guilt eating away at her. She had been acting all high and mighty ever since the incident with the guns, but was she any different than him? She lashed out. That's what people like us do, Kali thought to herself.

"I need you to talk to Henry" Locke's voice boomed from behind her, distracting her from her thoughts.

She had been lounging around in the hatch ever since the argument, wanting to avoid the rest of the group as much as she could. It seemed that Locke wasn't getting the message. They had informed her when she reached the hatch that their mystery man was now calling himself Henry Gale, and had supposedly crashed on the island less than a month ago. Pushing herself off the stool in the kitchen, she turned to him, crossing her arms.

"Why me?" Kali frowned.

"It takes one liar to know another" John replied, making Kali scoff.

"You still think I'm hiding something?" Kali questioned; her eyes narrowed.

"I want answers from this man, Kali. I believe your best qualified to do the job. Do you disagree?" Locke asked, as Kali mulled over this for a moment.

"And how exactly do you expect me to get these answers?" Kali inquired.

"Any way you wish" Locke informed her, watching her nod in response.

"Does Jack know about this?" Kali queried, as Locke walked over to the armoury door, dialling the safe combination.

"I wasn't aware I had to run all my decisions by Jack" Locke muttered, as the door made a clicking noise.

"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, huh?" Kali exclaimed, ripping the armoury door open, her eyes quickly finding 'Henry'.

"I remember you…the nurse, right?" Henry announced, as Kali stepped into the armoury, walking over to sit on a stool opposite the makeshift bed he was lying on.

"Yep. I was the one who pulled the arrow out of your shoulder. No need to thank me" Kali exclaimed, as Locke closed the door to the armoury, the room suddenly becoming much darker.

"I wasn't going to" Henry muttered, quietly.

"I've heard about the story you're spinning. The hot air balloon, your wife dying, being on your own for weeks. I like it, have you ever thought about publishing?" Kali asked, as the man scoffed.

"Clearly you didn't enjoy it as much as Sayid did. He really showed me how he felt" Henry stated, ushering to the numerous cuts and bruises that littered his body.

"If you're trying to make me feel sorry for you, then it's not gonna' work. I'm all out of sympathy" Kali replied, leaning forward on the stool.

"All I want…is for you people to let me go. I haven't done anything wrong!" Henry pleaded; his voice shaky.

"…Do you have any kids?" Kali inquired.

"What?" Henry frowned, his eyes narrowing.

"You and your wife, did you have any kids?" Kali pressed, watching the man pursed his lips.

"I had a child from an earlier relationship. She's sixteen…not much younger than you, I expect" Henry pointed out.

"When was the last time you saw her?" Kali went on, as Henry's mouth opened and closed a few times.

"What, you don't remember? Chances are your never getting off this island, and you're trying to tell me that last memory with your daughter isn't seared into your mind?" Kali insisted.

"Two months. It was two months ago" Henry replied, as Kali shook her head.

"Where was it?" Kali questioned.

"…Her mother's house" Henry told her.

"What did you talk about?" Kali asked.

"There…there was a fair in a couple of weeks. I was—" Henry began, but she stopped him.

"Going to take her there? Well, that never happened, did it, Henry? Has that not been eating away at you?" Kali pushed on, watching the man's jaw tense.

"Of course it has" Henry huffed.

"What's her favourite colour?" Kali inquired, as Henry's eye twitched.

"I...I don't know" Henry admitted.

"Okay, her hobbies? Favourite book? Best friend?" Kali continued, seeing the blank look on Henry's face.

"We're not exactly...close" Henry said, through gritted teeth.

"Did you even love her, Henry?" Kali insisted, as his hands balled into fists.

"Don't—" Henry began, but she cut him off once again.

"I'll tell you a secret. She doesn't think you do. And she's right. Because if you did, you'd know those things!" Kali exclaimed, spite lacing her words.

In a flash, Henry was suddenly on his feet, his fist swinging towards her, colliding with her jaw as Kali stumbled back. Kali let out a laugh, as she felt pain radiate through her cheek, her eyes connecting with Henry's.

"Go on then! Do it!" Kali yelled, holding out her arms, an almost pleading tone to her voice.

The anger seemed to immediately fade away from Henry, his shoulders relaxing, and a smug expression falling over his face. Kali frowned, as he took a step forward, a smirk tugging on his lips.

"…I don't think your brother would appreciate me doing that" Henry whispered, watching fear flash across Kali's face, much to his own satisfaction.

The armoury door suddenly swung open, as the light from the kitchen poured in, causing Henry to take a step back. A hand was quickly wrapping around Kali's wrist, as she allowed herself to be pulled out, in too much shock to argue. Her eyes never left the smirk on Henry's face, as Locke pushed the armoury door closed. It was then that Kali turned to the person holding her wrist, finding it was Jack, looking like he had just stepped out of the shower, his chest bare.

"Jesus, Kali. Are you okay?" Jack asked, reaching out to brush his hand across her cheek.

Kali's own hand reached up to wipe her nose, which she realised now was bleeding. She allowed Jack to bring her over to the kitchen table, sitting her on one of the stools. A minute later, he was approaching her with an ice pack, the same symbol on it that seemed to be plastered all around the hatch. Kali flinched a little as he pressed the ice against her cheek and knew it would bruise.

"I didn't think he would…" Locke trailed off, the guilt clear in his voice.

"Don't, Locke. Just…leave" Jack ordered, firmly.

Kali still didn't speak as she watched Locke walk away, his eyes downcast. Kali's thoughts were still running a mile a minute, trying to figure out what it all meant. Henry was one of the Other's. She knew that now for sure. But how could she tell any of them without admitting the truth about her brother? She was at a stalemate.

"Son of a bitch" Kali muttered, under her breath.

"What were you thinking? He could have done anything to you!" Jack insisted, earning a shrug in response.

"So?" She replied, as Jack shook his head in disbelief, pulling the ice pack away from her cheek.

"So?! Kali, your one of the only things keeping this group together right now…keeping me together. You can't keep doing this" Jack insisted, making her frown.

"Doing what?" She questioned.

"Acting like your life doesn't mean anything" Jack stated.

"It didn't mean anything before I came to this island" Kali mumbled, surprised by her own words.

"Well, it means something to me, okay? We all care about you" Jack told her, as Kali felt tears beginning to well in her eyes.

"You shouldn't. I'm not…I'm not worth it" Kali cried, a tear rolling down her cheek.

"In all my years on this planet…I've never met anyone who's not worth it" Jack exclaimed, reaching out to brush away her tear, gently.

"You've got to start caring about yourself, Kali" Jack insisted, as she nodded slowly.

Jack gave her a small smile, reaching up to use both his hands to brush away any of the stray tears still on her cheeks. He just hoped she would take his advice.

"Hey. Nice chest hair, man…very butch" Kali teased, her eyes dipping down to Jack's chest, as he couldn't stop the laugh that left his lips.

"Not interrupting, am I?" A gruff voice had them both turning around.

Sawyer stood in the doorway to the kitchen, gritting his teeth so hard he thought they might crack. When he entered the room, he had seen the two laughing, Kali's eyes trailing over Jack's half-naked form. She didn't take long to move on, Sawyer thought to himself.

"Sawyer, you need something?" Jack shot back, clearly having to restrain himself from rolling his eyes.

"I was just coming to see if you were okay…looks like the Doc's got it covered" Sawyer scoffed, his eyes darting from the towel wrapped around Jack's waist, and the way he had been touching Kali just moments before.

"Sawyer, it's not…" Kali trailed off, as the man was already marching off down the corridor.

"Let him go, Kali. He'll come around soon enough" Jack told her, seeing that she clearly wanted to run after him.

Kali nodded in response, biting on her lip, feeling more confused than ever. Why did Sawyer act like he didn't care about her half the time, then get jealous when he saw her with another man? He was more confusing than a teenage girl.

Kali was walking back to the camp when she practically collided with Sun, who had been storming in the opposite direction, not looking where she was going. Kali was about to chew the woman out when she saw how pale Sun looked, her eyes unfocused.

"Hey, you alright?" Kali frowned, reaching out to touch the shaky woman's shoulder.

"Y-yes, I'll be fine in a moment" Sun replied, but this did nothing to convince Kali.

"You don't look fine. C'mon, let's sit down" Kali instructed, all but pulling Sun to her knees.

"I think I was just out in the sun too long" Sun suggested, as Kali quirked an eyebrow.

"Are you feeling dizzy?" Kali questioned, watching Sun nod slowly.

"You're not on your period, are you?" Kali guessed, thinking that she had all the symptoms.

A look of realisation quickly dawned on Sun's face, her eyes darting around, looking like she was about to throw up. Kali frowned at this reaction, wondering what she had said.

"No, I haven't…" Sun trailed off, biting her lip.

"Oh…oh! Wait, have you and Jin…you know?" Kali asked, wiggling her eyebrows.

"It can't be. I can't…Oh God, I thought we were being careful" Sun gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.

"Hey, don't be too hard on yourself. It takes two to…well, have sex in this case" Kali pointed out, a little amused.

"I need to know for sure" Sun announced, pushing herself to her feet.

"Well, there's only one thing to do then. You need a pregnancy test" Kali went on.

"Does Jack have one?" Sun asked, as Kali shook her head, running a hand over her face.

"Nope. But I know someone who does" Kali sighed.

"I need something from your stash" Kali announced, coming to stand in front of Sawyer an hour later, who had been wrapped up in the book he was reading.

"I think your forgetting the magic word" Sawyer muttered, making Kali scoff.

"Fuck you?" Kali suggested, as Sawyer's lips twitched into a smile.

"That's two words" Sawyer stated, his eyes flickering up to her.

"Look, I'm sorry about what I said earlier, but you're still the one in the wrong. This is like an olive branch, okay? Take it" Kali explained.

"You better get your walking shoes on then" Sawyer announced, dropping his book on the sand and standing up.

"What?" Kali questioned; her forehead wrinkling in confusion.

"The medical supplies are deep in the jungle with the guns. We better leave now if you want to get there and back before dark…or you could just tell me what you want" Sawyer suggested, watching her shake her head vehemently.

"Lead the way then" Kali insisted, ushering towards the jungle.

Almost an hour later, they were still trudging through the jungle, her thin layer of sweat coating their bodies. Kali was slowly growing suspicious, noticing that Sawyer didn't seem to be travelling in any real direction, and decided to speak up.

"Do you even know where you're going?" Kali huffed.

"I might not be as good a tracker as the Doc, but I can remember where I left my shit" Sawyer muttered, as Kali rolled her eyes.

"God, are you still going on about that? There is nothing going on with me and Jack" Kali scoffed.

"Oh yeah? Well, you seemed awful cosy in the hatch" Sawyer insisted, as Kali held her arms out in exasperation.

"I got punched in the face by our mystery man. Jack was being a good friend. That's all" Kali retorted, watching Sawyer come to a halt.

"He did what?!" Sawyer gaped, an angry look in his eyes.

"I was trying to get a reaction out of him. And clearly, it worked—" Kali was cut off, as Sawyer suddenly reached out to touch her cheek, able to see the start of a bruise running along her jaw.

"Why didn't you tell me he hurt you?" Sawyer exclaimed.

"What would you have done if I had?" Kali challenged, disappointed as Sawyer's hand slipped away from her cheek.

"Kicked his ass!" Sawyer stated, as if it was obvious.

"Right, cause' the only person who's allowed to hurt me is you, huh?" Kali suggested, quirking an eyebrow.

"…I left the stash where it was" Sawyer replied, after a few moments.

"What?" Kali cried, in disbelief.

"If something happened to me, I knew you'd be able to find it that way" Sawyer shrugged, confusing Kali even more.

"We've been travelling in the opposite direction! Why didn't you say anything earlier?" Kali insisted.

"I wanted to spend longer with you" Sawyer admitted, his blue eyes connecting with her own for a moment.

Kali opened her mouth to speak, but Sawyer was already walking past her, his eyes firmly on the ground. She wasn't sure how much longer she could take his behaviour of pulling her back and forth.

It was almost dark by the time they finally reached his hidden stash, as Kali's eyes flickered over to where it seemed he had buried most of the guns. He ushered her over to a nearby tree, digging into the soil and grabbing the edge of some blue tarp underneath, pulling at it. Piles of medications, first aid equipment, and a couple of pregnancy test boxes came to the surface a moment later.

"Alright, turn around and I'll take what I came for" Kali announced, as Sawyer crossed his arms.

"Not gonna' happen, blue eyes" Sawyer told her, a stubborn tone to his voice.

With a roll of her eyes, Kali leaned down to grab one of the pregnancy tests, hoping it would still work. It would be a real kick to the face if the whole trip had been for nothing. Her eyes flickered over to Sawyer, who's jaw had dropped open, looking completely dumbfounded.

"You're… you're pregnant?" Sawyer exclaimed, as Kali couldn't stop the laugh that left her lips.

"Oh yeah, when you left, me and Jack got down and dirty in the kitchen. And when I say he is packing, I mean…packing" Kali grinned, watching Sawyer turn a green colour.

"No, you dumbass. It's not for me" Kali shook her head, fondly.

"Who's it for then?" Sawyer inquired, earning a small shrug in response.

"A girl's gotta' have some secrets, right" Kali exclaimed.

"Jesus, Kali. You sure know how to give a guy a heart attack" Sawyer muttered.

"…Why were you so angry at the thought of me and Jack getting together?" Kali blurted out, before she could chicken out of her question.

"You could do better" Sawyer stated, making her scoff.

"Oh, yeah? Like who?" Kali insisted, taking a step forward.

"Just…a better man" Sawyer replied, as Kali took another step until she was standing so close to him she could feel the heat coming off his body.

"I don't want a better man," Kali told him, watching as his eyes flickered down to her lips.

The jungle was silent at that moment, the only sound their heavy breathing, as Sawyer's heart beat loudly in his chest. He forced his gaze back up to Kali's blue eyes, as a realisation dawned on her face.

"…You remember" She mumbled, her eyes widening.

"Kali, don't" Sawyer all but begged, as she leaned closer inch by inch.

"That's what changed. That's why you pushed me away" Kali went on, her hand moving to trail up his chest, feeling his heart beating quicker under her palm.

"You kissed me" Sawyer's voice was thick, his hands tense by his side, wanting to reach out to her.

"And you kissed me back" Kali replied, so close that she could feel his breath against her lips.

"You shouldn't have done that," Sawyer told her, his breathing unsteady, as his eyes dropped back to her lips.

"…I want you, James. Just…just tell me you want me back. Please" Kali begged, her voice barely above a whisper.

Sawyer's mouth went dry, as he reached out to touch her cheek, his fingers coming to rest at the base of her neck, his thumb gently brushing against the bruise blooming on her cheek. She pushed herself onto her tiptoes, feeling their lips brushing together.

"I—" Sawyer started, his eyes darting to something behind Kali, as they heard a twig snap.

"Oh…I didn't realise you two were…uh, I'll just go…" Ana Lucia stuttered, staring at them from a few metres away.

Sawyer immediately backed up, much to Kali's disappointment, his breathing still heavy. Her hand slipped away from where it had been clutching his shirt, her eyes lowering to the ground.

"I'll see you back at camp" Sawyer mumbled, quickly walking away from her, his voice strained.

"Were you two…?" Ana Lucia spoke up, once Sawyer was out of hearing distance.

"I really fucking hate you" Kali groaned, through gritted teeth.
