In this chapter, we get an inside into Adelaide's reasons for hero training.

Adelaide and Raymond spent the whole night texting each other eventually she fell asleep without noticing. She woke up to the sound of her phone alarm. She noticed that she was going to be late for school. She jolted out of bed and put on a blue t-shirt, a pair of black leggings, and her blue running shoes. She ran out of the mansion and rode her bike to Lake Wood public high. She made it to her first class right after the bell rang. As she sat through class, she felt like everyone was looking at her. She could hear some of her classmates giggling and whispering to each other. She couldn't make out what they were saying, but somehow she knew they were talking about her. After the final bell, she biked back to the mansion to grab her work apron and non-slip shoes for her shift. When she got back, Enid, Rad, and KO were waiting in the foyer. "Hey guys, is something wrong?" she asked.

Enid held her phone to Adelaide's face and showed her Gregg's 'Robot Kisser'. "Are you dating that Pompadork? You do know that dating a villain doesn't scream hero, right?" she asked.

Adelaide took Enid's phone and studied the photo. "I know it looks like he and I are kissing, but we were just having a picnic, it wasn't a date. Raymond invited me and I thought it would be nice to get to know him. I noticed that there were some food specs on his chest and I went to brush them off, I fell and he caught me, and Gregg just happened to be there and took a photo without getting any context," she explained. "If anything, we are new friends getting to know each other and that's it! Maybe next time ask before making assumptions," she growled before walking up to her room, grabbing her cafe stuff, and went out the door. She biked to the plaza and saw that she still had an hour before she had to clock in. She went to the alley and sloped down on the wall. She took deep breaths to calm herself down. "It's not like I actually want to be a hero anyway, That's what my parents and Elodie want, I just wanted to be poetry writer," she said as she had her head on her knees.

"Then why are you training?" she heard a romantic voice from in front of her. She looked up and saw Raymond standing above her. She smiled at the sight of him. He sat down next to her. "My guess is that your friends saw the picture of us on Social Media, am I right?" She nodded. "My family gave me the whole 'You cannot date a hero' speech. I explained to them that we're just friends, but I do not think they believe me."

Adelaide sighed. "I'm sorry that being friends with me is causing you problems. Maybe it would be better if you didn't even know me," she said as she let a few tears leave her watering eyes.

Raymond then placed his hand on her cheek. "If you want to cry because you think I am angry with you, then please stop," he said before using his free hand to take a pink handkerchief. He used it to lightly dry her eyes. "I am not mad at you. Am I mad at my family? Yes, but I am glad that we are friends. So, I am ecstatic to know you."

Adelaide smiled and gave him a hug. "Thanks, Ray, I needed that more than I realized."

Raymond smiled and hugged her back. "So, if you don't want to be a hero why don't you just tell your family you don't want to be one?" He asked before letting go of her.

She sighed. "My parents were famous heroes before they had me, they even got offers from POINT, but when they found out the I was on the way, they decided to hang up the capes. I guess I always wanted to make it up to them. I feel so much shame for just being born and ending their careers, I don't know," she sighed. "That's where my poem "Stolen Light" comes from."

"Two flights of fame,

stolen by a young dame.

For can one make up being born,

birth being able to scorn.

Stolen light from the paternal,

my shame is eternal. That one was so sad and beautiful," Raymond recited.

Adelaide smiled and giggled. "You memorized it?"

Raymond nodded. "Downloaded to my motherboard."

They then heard an alarm go off. "That's mine," she said before getting up. "I got to clock in. See you later," she said before dashing off.

Raymond let out a love-sick sigh and started walking back to Voxmore.
