"Whoooooo, another round!" Louis shouted then leaned back in his chair, clearly drunk. He put his feet up on the table then leaned his chair back.

"Come on Louis, we've already had three rounds. And that's just from when I got here. You've been drinking since three." Violet warned her best friend.

"Come on Vi. Loosen up a bit. Can't a guy celebrate his best friend's promotion?" Louis said setting his chair back on all four legs and setting his feet back on the floor.

"Yeah, I guess you're right," Violet said twiddling a beer bottle cap in her fingers as she stared at the marked-up bar table.

"What's wrong Vi?" Louis said taking another swig of his beer finishing it off.

"It's nothing," Violet said defeated.

"Come on..." Louis encouraged. "You can't tell me after winning such a big promotion you're gonna mope around like you're puppy just died."

"It's not that. I'm happy about getting the promotion, but..."

"But..." Louis asked.

"But... I'm used to celebrating with her." Violet explained.

"Still torn up about Minnie huh?" Louis asked taking another drink from a new shot that had been brought to him.

"It's not like I want to be. But we used to come here every Friday after work." Violet said placing the bottle cap back down.

"You need to forget Minerva. Have another shot, Vi. It'll make you feel better. Just look at me! I feel great!"

Violet shot him a look. "Yeah, you're also drunk."

"Drunk Louis is the best Louis." He said back, placing his feet back up on the table.

That got a slight laugh out of Violet. "Yeah right. You're a pain in the a..." She trailed off staring at something.

"I'm a pain in the what?" Louis laughed.

"What?" Violet asked. "Come again?"

"You said I'm a pain in the... when I'm drunk," Louis repeated.

"Oh yeah. Mhm." Violet trailed off looking past Louis instead of at him.

"What are you looking at?" Louis asked trying to peer behind him. He followed Violet's gaze and stopped once it landed on brown hair and golden eyes. "Ohhhhh, I see you." He gave Violet a playful nudge.

"What are you talking about?" Violet said finally paying attention to him.

Louis smirked. "You like her, don't you?" He whispered seductively.

Violet blushed slightly. "I...do not." She took a sip of her almost empty beer to hide her embarrassment.

The smirk didn't leave his face though as he leaned in. "I don't blame you. She's hot."

Violet almost spit out her drink. "Louis!? What the fuck?"

"What?! She is." He fought back. Glancing over his shoulder he saw the girl sitting at a table alone. "You should go and talk to her," Louis said excitedly.

"What!" Violet said exasperated. "I've never even seen her here before. I'm not gonna go over and talk to her."

"You should buy her a drink," Louis said. "Here, grab her a beer." Louis pulled a ten out of his wallet and pushed it across the table towards the blonde.

A blush overtook Violet's face. "Louis I can't do this. I don't even know if she likes beer. She looks like she's drinking wine."

"Then go ask Marlon. The bartender always knows everyone in the bar. I'm sure he knows her drink." Louis said finishing off his shot in one last big gulp. "Look, you're out anyway. Perfect timing. Go order a couple of drinks and talk to her. Looks like she's alone tonight."

Violet looked at her drink and noticed that Louis was right. Her bottle was empty. "Fuck." She swore under her breath.

"Fine, but you owe me big if this goes south." Violet pointed at Louis as she stood from her seat.

"Whatever you say, Vi."

Violet walked the short distance to the bar and took a seat on one of the empty stools. She looked back at Louis who waved at her from their table. Violet groaned to herself. What had she gotten herself into? But she looked over her shoulder at the brunette wearing a blue and white baseball cap, sitting alone at a table. Louis was right, she was hot.

The clearing of someone's throat made her turn back around. "Ahem, can I help you miss? Oh, hi Violet." The bartender greeted her.

Violet sighed. "Hey, Marlon."

"What'll it be? Should I grab your usual?" Marlon asked cleaning out an empty glass and setting it aside.

"Actually... I need a favor." Violet said sheepishly.

Marlon stopped her there. "I know you and Louis are good friends of mine, but I cannot keep sliding Louis free beers."

"No, no. It's not that." Violet clarified.

"Oh? Then what's up?"

Violet blushed before placing her head in her hands and groaning. "Ughhhhhh."

"That bad huh?" Marlon said wiping down another glass.

"No, it's just...ugh. What do you know about baseball cap over there?" Violet secretly pointed behind her at the girl seated at a table by herself.

"Ohhhh, look at you making a bold move." Marlon nudged her.

"It wasn't my idea," Violet mumbled.

"Louis?" Marlon asked and Violet nodded.

Marlon popped the top on a Bud Light and handed it to Violet who handed him the ten Louis had given her. "Well, you're in luck. I happen to know Clementine Everett quite well."

"Clementine. So that's her name." Violet said more to herself than to Marlon.

"If you really want to know, she comes here a lot," Marlon said going back to cleaning glasses. "She just loves to hear the music and dance. She was recently dumped by her former boyfriend, Gabe Garcia."

Violet gasped. "You're kidding. Who would dump a girl like that?"

Marlon shrugged. "Anyway, K-13 is her favorite song. If you play it you might have a chance."

"K-13 got it," Violet said trying to memorize everything Marlon was telling her.

"Tonight she's only sipping white whine. She's friendly and fun-loving most of the time. But don't ask her on a straight tequila night. She'll start thinking about him and she's ready to fight. Blames her broken heart on every man in sight. You might actually have a better shot Vi, being a girl and all."

"You know what?" Marlon started as he busied himself behind the counter. He grabbed a glass and poured a drink setting it on the bar. Then he pulled out a roll of quarters from the cash register and broke it. Grabbing a handful he walked back to Violet. "Here's a glass of champagne, some quarters in change. Maybe you can turn her love life around."

"Me?" Violet pointed to herself. "I don't know Marlon," She said tapping on her glass.

"Why not? Then she won't need the salt or the lime anymore to shoot that old memory down."

Violet sighed. "Alright, I'll do it." She got up and pocketed the quarters. She was about to grab the drinks when Marlon stopped her. "Just remember her heart's on the mend. If you ever come back to see her again."

"I understand," Violet told him picking up the glass of champagne. "I'll be gentle."

Violet looked across the bar and gulped. Clementine's table seemed so far away yet too close all at the same time. She took a step forward and her legs felt like jelly, but she kept walking. She dropped a beer off to Louis. "Go get her, Vi." He whispered as she passed.

"Shut up, Louis." Violet hissed.

She walked past Louis's table and continued the journey to the girl in the baseball cap. From a distance, it looked like the girl was lost in thought almost like she was reading an imaginary book, but she looked up when Violet approached.

"Uh...hi." Violet stuttered out.

"Hello," Clem said eyeing the blonde curiously.

Violet wasn't quite sure what to say. She was so nervous she was starting to sweat. "So...um... I couldn't help but notice that you were alone."

She internally facepalmed. Why'd I have to point that out?

"Yeah. Something wrong with that? I can't come to the bar by myself?" Clem spat back.

Violet started freaking out, tripping over her words. "No no. I just meant you looked a little lonely is all. I mean not lonely but... I mean I thought maybe you'd like some company. That's all."

Violet's face was hot with embarrassment. Why did talking to this girl have to be so hard?

Then the girl did something that Violet hadn't expected. She started to laugh. "I'm just messing with you." Then she smiled up at Violet. "Sorry about that. I thought I'd have a little fun with you. My name's Clementine."

"Um...Violet. My name's Violet." The blonde stuttered out, still having no idea what she was getting into. "Sorry about before, I didn't mean to offend you or anything."

"Well, you weren't too far off," Clem explained. "I am feeling a little lonely tonight. I um... I was actually dumped by my boyfriend not too long ago."

"Oh, that's awful," Violet said, taking a seat next to the brunette, acting like she hadn't already heard this from the bartender. "I don't know why anyone would want to break up with someone like you. You seem like a really great person." Then Violet looked down at the drink in her hand. "Um... I got you this." She set the glass down and pushed the champagne in front of Clem.

Clem smirked. "And exactly how did you know that I liked champagne?"

Violet started to sweat again. What if she found out that she had asked Marlon all about her?

But Clem laughed again. "I'm just teasing. Lucky guess obviously." And she winked at Violet, taking a sip of the drink.

"So what brings you here Violet?" Clem asked. "Can't be just because of me can it." And she winked at her again.

Violet's cheeks turned a slight shade of pink. "Um...actually I was dragged here by a friend to celebrate my promotion."

"Well, congratulations," Clem said.

"Yeah, it's alright I guess," Violet said taking a swig of her beer.

"You don't seem to be too happy about it." Clem pointed out. "Did you not want it?"

"No, I wanted it. But..." Violet played with the label on her cold beer. "I was actually dumped by my girlfriend as well."

"Aw, I'm sorry to hear that. Guess we're both just a lost cause."

"Well, if I have to be a lost cause, I'm glad it's with you," Violet said raising her beer.

"Yeah, I'll drink to that." Clem agreed as she clinked her glass against Violet's bottle. Then they both took a drink.

"So what brings you here?" Violet asked the brunette.

"I like to listen to the music here and hang out," Clem explained looking a little down. "By myself tonight though because...well you know."

"Yeah." Violet nodded in agreement, taking a sip of her beer.

She looked over to see Clem's down expression. What a jerk to make a girl this pretty feel that bad. Then she abruptly stood up. "You know what? Fuck those guys. We don't need them to have a good time."

Then Violet walked across the room to the jukebox. She took out the quarters from her pocket that Marlon had given her and inserted them into the machine. Then she started scrolling through the different songs till she found the familiar name of K-13. She pressed play and music started to sound through the speakers in the bar. Violet walked back to Clem's table and smiled as she caught a glimpse of Clementine tapping her foot to the beat.

"I love this song!" Clem exclaimed with a smile on her face.

"Me too." Violet half lied. It wasn't that bad of a song and it was starting to grow on her.

But suddenly her confidence started to drain. Violet rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly. Then she held out her hand. "Care to dance?" She asked nervously.

Clem cocked her head to the side like a puppy as she thought of her answer. Then a smile crossed her face and she reached out to grab Violet's hand.

Violet helped her up and led her to the dance floor in front of the now-empty stage. Clem's hands rested on her shoulders and her hands went around the brunette's waist.

Violet felt butterflies as they began to step back and forth. She refused to look Clem in the eyes and her cheeks were tinted a light pink.

"You're good at this." Clem complimented.

"Uh...thanks. My grandpa taught me." Violet said and she spun Clem around.

"He must be a good dancer." She said.

"Well, grandma and grandpa loved to dance," Violet explained as they swayed to the music. "Every Sunday after church."

"Sounds nice," Clem said as her hands made their way around Violet's neck.

Violet shivered at the touch. "It was."

Clem smiled at her, not taking her eyes off the blonde as they moved back and forth. The song slowly coming to an end.

"Thanks for the dance," Clem said smiling. And then she did something that Violet never expected would happen. Clem stood up on her toes and kissed Violet on the cheek then walked away smiling.

Violet stood there starstruck. She touched the spot Clem had kissed her at, unable to move her feet. Had that really just happened?

She thought about how soft her lips had felt against her cheek. How she loved the feeling. Violet looked back at the brunette's table but realized the girl was gone. She quickly scanned the bar but the amber-eyed girl had disappeared.

Feeling slightly disappointed she walked back to the table Louis was at. "Soooo, how was it?" Louis pestered.

It took Violet a few moments to answer. "It was...amazing."

Louis smiled a cocky grin. "See? Told you she'd be interested."

"But she left at the end," Violet said defeated.

Louis was about to say something when a shout from across the bar stopped him. "Hey, Violet! Got something for you!"

Violet turned around and could see Marlon's arm raised with something grasped in his hand. She walked over to the bar and Marlon handed her something. "This is for you." And he placed a small piece of paper in her hand.

Violet gave him a questioning look before she turned it over and gasped at what she saw. The paper read, Call me, (516) 555-0583 Clementine.

Violet walked back to her table speechless. "What'd you get?" Louis asked, and Violet handed him the paper. "Oh ho! You got her number!"

Violet nodded too shocked to say anything. But she looked down at the little note and smiled. How lucky was she? This was a great start to a new beginning.
