If Roland can sing this classic Bob Carlisle song as he thinks about Sofia and Amber as they're sleeping, let's see what he can do with it as he tries to comfort Sofia! As a deleted scene from chapter 9 of theblindwriter95's Save What Has Been Lost, I thought it would be nice if Roland tried to help comfort Sofia after she has another nightmare. He knows how much Sofia loves butterflies, and he thinks of an ideal song to help her. Thanks to theblindwriter95 for helping with the story. Bob Carlisle's music is not mine.

Sofia tossed and turned in her bed. She wanted to get rid of the nightmare she was having, but she didn't know how. "NO!" she screamed, waking herself up. "Don't take Clover!" She frantically looked over to where Clover was sound asleep in his basket.

Suddenly, she heard a new voice. "Sofia?" She looked around, and her tear-filled eyes met Roland's concerned gaze. "Sofia, are you all right? What happened?"

"Mr. Boswell take Clover! He go far away and I can't find him!" Sofia wailed.

Roland took her in his arms. He felt Sofia stiffen in alarm, but she relaxed when she felt his gentle touch. "Don't worry, Sofia, Boswell's still in the dungeons. He's not going anywhere," He looked over at Clover's basket and smiled when he saw the rabbit fast asleep. Apparently, Clover was just like Amber, who was dead to the world when her head hit the pillow. "And as for Clover, he's safe where he belongs, with you. Now, let's let sleeping bunnies lie..." he suddenly looked down at Sofia's bed. "And get you cleaned up."

Sofia started crying again when she saw that she had had an accident. "I sorry! I bad girl!"

"Sofia, don't think for one minute that you're a bad girl," Roland murmured as he helped her to the bathroom. "This was a traumatic experience for you, and it's no problem for any of us to clean you up if you have an accident. Now, why don't you take a bath, and I'll get someone to bring you clean clothes and sheets? I'll be right outside the bathroom door if you need me."

"You're not gonna laugh at me for having an accident?" Sofia hiccupped.

"Of course not. Why would you think I'd do something like that?"

"Mr. Boswell laughed at me and called me a bad girl," Sofia sniffled. "He say I lose privileges if I have accidents."

Roland took her in his arms and hugged her. "Don't worry about that anymore," he murmured, "You won't lose any privileges for having accidents, but I will help you clean up."

Sofia nodded with a sniff. It broke Roland's heart to see her struggling to realize that whatever she did wasn't a privilege. Especially when it came to eating and bathing.

When Sofia had undressed, she stood next to the tub uneasily as if bathing after having an accident was a privilege she needed to earn.

"Mr. Boswell called me a baby after I had an accident before he got arrested," Sofia confessed. "He was so angry that it scared me and..."

"You don't have to think about Boswell anymore, Sofia," Roland murmured. "He's never going to bother you again." He helped her into the tub as he continued, "And I know what you're thinking: this is not a privilege you need to earn. If you have an accident, it's no problem for someone to help you clean up. That's what we're here for."

Sofia smiled a little as Roland helped her clean up. "You help me cause you love me?"

Roland smiled. "I couldn't have put it better myself!"

Sofia stayed still, relaxing when she felt his gentle touch on her skin. The only thing she didn't like about bathing were the burns that Boswell had given her, stinging the moment they came in contact with water.

Despite flinching, she timidly looked up at Roland.

"You want to talk about your nightmare?" Roland asked softly. Sofia gave him a nod before looking away. "Did Boswell try to take you away again?"

"He take Clover and put me in wagon," Sofia started. "He put big black blanket on me so I not see where we go. I always in dark cause he say taking blanket off means I lose privilege."

"Neither of you have to think about that anymore," Roland said as he helped her out of the tub a few moments later. "You'll never be left alone in the dark again. There are no black blankets here, so you don't have to worry about that. If you want to take a blanket off, go ahead, since you might get too hot with it on."

Sofia was baffled. Being with Boswell for two weeks had her believe that Roland was lying until her unsure eyes met his sincere ones.

"You're not mad at me, are you, Daddy?" Sofia wondered. She started to cry, shaking in fear. "I sorry I got burned! I sorry I get scared of the dark and wagons! I sorry I made you worry for two weeks! I really sorry! Just take me back to the wagon because I bad girl!"

"You never have to go back to the wagon again," Roland said as he took her in his arms. "Everything that happened over the last two weeks was because of Boswell, not you. He's the only one I'm angry at. He's the one who traumatized you and brainwashed you into thinking that you're a bad girl."

"Mr. Boswell washed my brain?" Sofia asked.

"Not exactly," Roland chuckled, "Boswell told you all those lies so many times that you simply accepted them after a while."

Sofia giggled at his explanation. Despite everything, even she knew it would take a while to undo the damage that Boswell had done.

She recalled a conversation she had with Amber about her emotions during their family picnic. Due to her only company being Clover and Boswell's dove for two weeks, she slowly learned some of their characteristics to coincide with her negative emotions.

Chewing on anything if frustrated, clawing or biting if angry, and growling if threatened.

She was slowly beginning to use her words again to describe how she felt. Even though some words still gave her trouble, the family understood what she was trying to say.

To help her with her words, the family would read with her every night, and James, and even Cedric, would play word games with her. Roland and Miranda would tell James to let Sofia try reading the words herself, but it was always fun getting him when he wouldn't stop helping anyway.

Roland saw her smile at the memory and asked, "Would you like to play some word games tomorrow?"

"We get James?" Sofia giggled.

"If he won't let you solve the puzzle by yourself, then yes," Roland agreed.

Sofia's smile brightened as she saw the nightlight that Amber had given her. Its glow reassured her that she was safe and no longer in the hands of Boswell.

She giggled, hearing Clover snore. After everything they went through together, Sofia appreciated that he no longer had to worry about her during the night anymore.

"Are you ready to go back to sleep?" Roland asked as he helped her into bed.

"Okay," Sofia agreed.

"And if I may make a suggestion, this might help you too," Roland continued as he took her in his arms. "Just like James did when we brought you home, this song might help you go to sleep."

"I like pretty song," Sofia smiled, recalling the pretty song James sang to her on the way back to the castle following her rescue.

"And I think you'll like this song as well," Roland agreed. "I used to sing this to Amber when she was little. When she was sad or if she got sick, this song always cheered her up."

"Music makes it all better!" Sofia smiled.

"It certainly does," Roland smiled. As he rocked her, he also began to sing softly, There's two things I know for sure:
She was sent here from heaven and she's daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes
And I thank god for all of the joy in my life
Oh, but most of all

For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk beside the pony, Daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny, Daddy, but I sure tried."
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning
And butterfly kisses at night.

"Butterflies!" Sofia gasped. "How did you know?!"

"They're your favorite aren't they?" Roland chuckled. "You're always chasing them while getting dirty in the process."

"You love me!" Sofia smiled sweetly.

"You must have picked that up from Amber and James somewhere, but yes, I do love you," Roland smirked as he kissed her forehead and remembered how Amber and James would sometimes give him innocent looks and say that when they were in trouble when they were younger.

As he became lost in his memories, Roland continued, Sweet sixteen today
She's looking like her mama a little more everyday
One part woman, the other part girl.
To perfume and make-up from ribbons and curls
Trying her wings out in a great big world.
But I remember...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair.
"You know how much I love you, Daddy
But if you don't mind, I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time."
Oh with all that I've done wrong I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses at night.

Sofia smiled as she cuddled closer to him. "La-la-la..." she tried to sing with him.

"Yes, James made up that little song when he was much younger," Roland smiled. "He said that if someone didn't know the words of a song, they should use that until they learn it."

"I don't know this one," Sofia admitted. "I never heard it before."

"But you like it now don't you?" Roland teased.

Sofia giggled as she felt him tickle her. "Daddy silly!" In between her laughter, she turned away from Roland. "I heard you say to Baileywick about tutors, but I not ready cause today Hildegard say I stupid for being kidnapped and I beginning to think she's right."

"That's just not true," Roland frowned. "You were not stupid for getting kidnapped. You were only trying to rescue Clover, and as I said before, Boswell used him as a ploy to take you as well. And I plan on telling King Henrik about how Hildegard's been acting toward you, and about this situation."

To help comfort her further, he sang the bridge of the song, All the precious time
Like the wind, the years go by.
Precious butterfly.
Spread your wings and fly.

"You tell Amber too? She not friends with Hildegard no more," Sofia admitted.

"I think Amber already knows about this," Roland agreed. He kissed her forehead, smiling softly as she hugged him. Sofia no longer feared him, knowing that Roland would never hurt her like Boswell did.

As he watched Sofia's eyelids droop, Roland smiled as he sang the last verse, She'll change her name today.
She'll make a promise and I'll give her away.
Standing in the bride-room just staring at her.
She asked me what I'm thinking and I said
"I'm not sure-I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl."
She leaned over

"Daddy I sleepy," Sofia yawned.

"Sleepy huh?" Roland smiled. "What did you do today to make yourself so sleepy?"

"I play with Clover, and James sings to me," Sofia smiled. "He and Amber dance with me."

Roland nodded and smiled. He remembered seeing the children dancing together and listening to James singing. "And did you visit Cedric?" he hinted.

"Yeah! Mr. Cee-drick make his sparkles!" Sofia giggled. "I go with James and he told me story!"

"Then you played some more until dinner?" Roland grinned. When she nodded, he chuckled. "No wonder you're so sleepy!"

Sofia nodded, holding back a yawn. Some nights she had difficulty with falling asleep which the family sympathetically understood.

"Everything's going to be all right, Sofia," Roland said as he helped her lie down again. "Everyone you love is right here with you. You never have to worry about Boswell again. You're a very good girl, and we love you very much."

"You love me! I good girl," Sofia smiled as she fell asleep.

Roland smiled as he tucked her in and placed her doll in her arms. "That's right. We love you, Sofia. So very much."

He kissed her as he finished the song, Gave me butterfly kisses with her mama there
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk me down the aisle, Daddy-it's just about time."
"Does my wedding gown look pretty, Daddy? Daddy, don't cry"
Oh, with all that I've done wrong I must have done something right.
To deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses
I couldn't ask God for more, man this is what love is.
I know I gotta let her go, but I'll always remember
Every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses...

Seeing Sofia asleep with a smile on her face had Roland stroke her hair before he looked up, hearing a noise.

Seeing Cedric a few feet away from him had Roland sigh in relief.

"I heard Sofia crying earlier. Is she alright?" Cedric asked.

Roland nodded, moving away from his sleeping daughter. "She just went to sleep but I need you to do me a favor."

Cedric nodded. "Name it, your majesty, and I'll do it."

"I think it would be best if we discussed it out of Sofia's earshot," Roland smiled.

Cedric nodded in agreement before getting a look at his sleeping apprentice. Since her return, he'd never seen her that peaceful.

She looked so innocent and it infuriated him that a talentless amateur took advantage of her innocence for two weeks.

"Should I curse that monster for what he's done now?" Cedric asked. "I've written down a few ideas."

"Don't curse him just yet, Cedric," Roland smirked, "All you need to do now is cast a spell that makes more sparkles for Sofia to help keep her calm if she has another nightmare."

Cedric complied to the request without complaint, only wanting Sofia's happiness.

As she giggled and attempted to catch the sparkles in her sleep, he and Roland stepped out of her room.

"One more thing, Cedric. Sofia informed Miranda and I before she had gone to bed earlier tonight that her sleep was often disrupted by Boswell rudely awakening her and Clover. I was hoping you could put a charm spell on her door," Roland requested.

"Of course," Cedric agreed. "This won't be like the ones I put on James or Amber's doors to keep them asleep when they were younger, this will be different. I'll even show it to you, so you know how it works."

"All right," Roland agreed. "But it's just something to alert anyone who's passing that Sofia might need help."

Cedric nodded in understanding. Seeing Sofia hide in the corner after he accidentally raised his voice when she came to visit him had broken his heart and was something that he never wanted to see ever again.

"Mr. Cee-drick? What are you doing up?" Sofia yawned, rubbing her eyes.

"I thought you were asleep, my dear," Cedric smiled.

"I was but I woke up. I know I safe now but adjusting to the castle again is still scary."

"You just take all the time you need," Cedric murmured. "You know we're all here to help you. In fact, I was just about to cast a spell that might help you."

"Mister Cee-drick does good magic!" Sofia smiled.

"I do, don't I?" Cedric chuckled. "Anyway, the spell I'm going to cast will alert anyone near your room to help you when you have nightmares."

"You too?" Sofia asked.

"Of course he will," Roland grinned. He took her in his arms. "Let's get you back to bed."

"Can I see Mr. Cee-drick's spell before I go back to sleep? Please Daddy?" Sofia pleaded.

"Of course," Roland smiled. He motioned toward Cedric, who was standing outside her door.

Cedric nodded, chanted his spell, and waved his wand. Sofia smiled as a large shower of sparkles shot out of his wand and covered her door. "That should do it," he said at last, "Those sparkles will last all night long, and they'll fade when you wake up in the morning. Do you see how they're gold? That means that you're calm and not having nightmares now. But if you start to get scared during the night or you have a nightmare, they'll turn red, alerting the first person who comes near your door that you need help."

"But what if I have accident?" Sofia asked. "It tell them that too?"

"I think they might know that if they wake you up," Cedric admitted. "But you don't have to worry; the person with you will help you, just like your father did tonight."

Sofia nodded, laying her head on Roland's shoulder. She yawned, causing her father and Cedric to chuckle.

"Are you getting sleepy, my dear?" Cedric teased.

"Little," Sofia admitted.

"Well, then, why don't we put you back to bed?" Roland smiled. "Don't worry, Sofia. This spell of Cedric's will help you during the night, but if you need anything, we'll come help you."

"Okay," Sofia smiled.

Roland tucked Sofia in, and Cedric cast another spell. When Roland looked over at him, he explained, "Mummy used to cast that spell when my sister or I had nightmares. It allows the dreamer to see soft swirling colors they can focus on until they calm down. I also added a few sparkles and butterflies into the mix, since Sofia seems to respond well to those."

Roland smiled. "Nicely done, Cedric; I think you might have even done that with James and Amber during these last two weeks."

"Amber and James got sparkles?" Sofia giggled.

"They did," Cedric smiled. "It helped them fall asleep while we were looking for you."

"I sorry I made you and Daddy worry Mr. Cee-drick. I promise not to be a bad girl no more."

"You are not, and you never have been, a bad girl," Roland said as he hugged her. "We only worry because we love you."

"You couldn't be a bad girl if you tried," Cedric agreed. "That monster had no idea what he was saying when he told you that."

"I happy I good girl," Sofia smiled.

"Aren't you forgetting something?" Roland teased, seeing her start to fall asleep.

"No I remember. Night-night, Daddy. I love you and I happy you're not a monster like Mr. Boswell."

"I love you too, Sofia," Roland smiled. "And we never have to think about that monster again."

"Cause he in jail until you and Mommy execute him," Sofia smiled. She glanced at Cedric sleepily. "Night-night, Mr. Cee-drick."

"Goodnight, my dear. Sweet dreams," Cedric smiled.

Sofia smiled as she laid down and closed her eyes. "La-la-la..." she sang softly as she fell asleep.

"Yes, Sofia, the good magical creatures and your rabbit friend will sing in your dreams with you," Cedric smiled.

"And at least you'll have Cedric's spell on your door to help you too," Roland agreed. "You have so many people here who love you and want to help you." He stroked her hair while Cedric found Sofia's doll and placed it in her arms.

Seeing a smile on her face, the two men stepped out of the room as Cedric quietly closed the door, leaving it ajar.

"Just in case Sofia gets hungry in the middle of the night again?" Roland grinned.

"Well, yes, but this might help her too," Cedric said as he made a plate of fly cakes, a pitcher of water and a cup.

"Well done," Roland smiled. "But we'll still be able to hear her if she needs us, won't we?"

"Oh, yes," Cedric nodded. "But let's let her sleep for now. She'll let someone know if she needs them."

Roland nodded in agreement.

Sofia needed her sleep and though he promised Miranda it'd be a few minutes when he first heard their youngest daughter screaming, Roland only hoped that she wouldn't mind that it took a little longer than expected.

"You go back to bed, sire; I'll keep an eye on Sofia," Cedric offered, seeing the look on his face. "I'll watch her through my crystal ball and help her if she needs it."

"Very well, Cedric; I'll trust you to help her," Roland agreed. "But please, don't hesitate to get me if you need help."

"I won't," Cedric promised. "Sofia's going to be in very good hands."

Roland smiled, holding back a yawn. "To her you do good magic, so she'll be in the best of care if anything else happens during the night."

"Even if she gets upset with keeping me up," Cedric agreed. He nudged Roland gently. "Get to bed, sire. I don't need you exhausting yourself over Sofia anymore."

"Very well, Cedric," Roland nodded. "I'll let you watch her tonight and check up on her in the morning."

"Excellent idea," Cedric nodded. "All we can really do is take this one day at a time."

"But at least we're all with her, and together we'll give her all the love and support she needs to get through this," Roland added.

"I couldn't have said it better myself," Cedric smiled.
