Bo sighed in great relief when their new client agreed to pay them handsomely upfront. She took Kenzi shopping and was not about to waste a second shopping for herself. She had dropped Kenzi off at home and went looking for an all-night department store. Everything she owns is black and tight. For once, she wants to be comfortable when she is sitting. Preferably, when she is sitting talking to Lauren. They have a lot to talk about. She cannot just pounce on the woman no matter how hard her Succubus is salivating at the idea.

She had received a second text from Lauren saying she wants to meet for breakfast first. So, the young brunette was clamoring to find something nice and in a hurry, so she could get back to her hotel room at a decent hour.

She picked about four outfits, threw cash on the counter, and rushed out to her car. She drove as fast as she could go and slammed on the breaks when she reached her hotel. Her bed is going to be heavenly. Kenzi could enjoy the luxury, but Bo cannot have her interfering in her thought process. Once she has learned how to be this new Bo, Kenzi can adjust or not. Sounds bitchy but there have been far too many people being assholes and bitches to Lauren over the years. She showered and pounced into bed. She closed her eyes and begged for sleep to hurry.

The next morning.

Bo's hands felt like mush as she rushed and rushed trying to pick out what to wear. Silly, really. Lauren is not going to be concerned with what the Succubus wears. But she will be concerned and pissed off if Bo is late to meet her. She still had an hour and a half to go before that happens. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and then pulled an outfit down and placed it on the bed. She showered, dried off and applied her makeup as quickly as she could.

Here she sat, finally dressed. She felt like her insides were going to burst from nervousness alone. She tapped her foot. She had ten minutes before she needed to leave. She already mapped the drive time in her head. She could make it on time but not desperate early. But in a way, she is desperate. Desperate to get Lauren back. She still was not at all sure show she lost her the first time.

Admittedly, she was not spending time together with the Doctor like a girlfriend should, but Lauren never said anything was wrong between them. Only that she wanted to talk. Bo did talk. She talked to Kenzi. She talked to Dyson. She was not dating them. Only talking to them about her relationship. She laid down, took a huge breath, and popped up and grabbed her car keys. She looked in the mirror one last time before she left.

The Dal

"Damn man. I am so freaking tired." Kenzi plopped on a barstool next to Dyson.

"Where's Bo? The wolf asked as he looked around. He inhaled to find her scent and got nothing in return.

"She dropped me at the shack last night and I haven't seen or heard from her since." Kenzi shook her head. She could barely lift her shot glass before setting it down again.

Dyson growled. The woman was, is obviously ignoring him and Trick at all costs. "She hasn't called you either right, Trick?

"No. I don't expect her anytime soon. She told me nothing about her plans. But as long as she is not causing problems for the Fae, I am okay not knowing where she is. If she gets hurt, she can heal, and be fine. That's all I care about right now." Trick walked away leaving the two to sulk in the own misery.

"Kenzi. You must know something. You're closer to her than anyone." Dyson turned to the woman.

"No." Kenzi held her hand up.

"What? No? You will not even tell me? Dyson raised an eyebrow.

"Dude we need to get you out of your mate shit because Bo isn't interested like that." Kenzi wiped her lips with a napkin. Trick must have gotten another brand of Vodka because this shit is burning her mouth.

"Then tell me what was the last thing she told you? That could help me find her." Dyson pleaded.

"She's with Lauren more than likely. But you should not interrupt them because her succubus was coming and going last night. Bo's never done that before." Kenzi shivered at the thought. She thought she was going to be Bo's snack at any given moment.

Just then Hale walked in and turned right back around. He sensed what he was about to walk in on and wanted no part of Kenzi and Dyson's moods.

"Hale! Dyson screamed.

The siren bowed his head and stopped. "What is it now?

"You're acting Ash. You have to help us." Dyson stood up and walked to the man.

"I have no control over Lauren. I will not summon her or have her brought in. Lauren isn't our ward anymore." Hale replied, grabbed a bottle from Trick's top shelf and left.

"Well damn. You are missing out on everything, aren't you little puppy? The Morrigan laughed from the door.

"What the hell does she want? Kenzi coughed up her latest shot.

"Should you even be here without your Succubus to protect you? The Morrigan laughed again. She walked past them and over to Trick.

"That's not good." Dyson growled.

"Don't take your eyes off of them." Kenzi stood up and reached over the bar for another bottle.

Bo and Lauren.

The only sound Bo heard was glasses, cups and forks hitting the tables and her own breathing. She opened her mouth to take another breath as Lauren red over the menu. Bo did not need to read it to know what she wants. Actual food and the blonde across from her. The time came for them to place their orders and then it was back to the same silence among them again.

"Are you going to talk or just stare and look around? Lauren asked as she picked up her cup and set it down seconds later.

"Honestly, I don't know what to say. I did not expect you to give another chance so soon. I was expecting days or weeks to pass." Bo admitted.

"I see. Well, I do not have time to play around. I do have to get to work in about two hours." Lauren ran her hands over her legs.

"I'm not playing you Lauren. I really do want us to date again. Just date. I know we are far away from another relationship because I don't know why we broke up the last time." Bo sat up straight in the booth. Leaning forward, smelling Lauren's new perfume was starting to arouse her.

"Like I said back then, I wasn't happy. I was not. I was back to being your priority when you wanted me or answers to solve Dyson's cases. Funny, until him, I never knew a Detective that could not solve his own cases. But he was Light Fae, and an extension of my boss. So, I had no choice but to help him." Lauren shrugged gently. This was nothing but the truth she was handing the Succubus as their waitress handed them their food.

"Lauren, you're a doctor, and I am a PI. We both help people. I was helping him solve his cases because he usually helped me solve mine, when I discovered who I was. But I never thought it was going to affect my relationship. That was me being na?ve and not knowing." Bo leaned forward. She needed to focus her eyes on the Doctor. Sitting back allowed her eyes the chance to roam and look at people entering and leaving the restaurant.

"This breakfast won't solve all of our problems Bo. I was not free then, I am now. I have to learn what that means and feels like again. Which is why I applied for and was hired as a human Doctor. I am sure I will eventually get bored, but I was starting to get bored in the Fae wards too." Lauren took a few bites of her food and waited for the explosion she knew was coming.

Bo took a deep breath and blew it out to the right of her. "I know this won't solve everything right now. That is why I suggested a week of date mornings, afternoons or nights."

Lauren chewed her food while she thought of what she was going to say next. Honestly, she was shocked that she had agreed to date Bo in such a minimal amount of time. She is scheduled for ten-hour days. In a doctor's world, which could lead to more hours at any given time. "I'm not sure we can make it a week Bo. My hours can change at the last minute. I know you are not very patient and will likely throw that in my face too. Honestly, if you mock my profession again, I will not want your friendship, much less a relationship.

I will get my rest, when I am tired. I won't push my body for the Fae anymore." Lauren took a drink of juice to help swallow her food.

Bo's eyes went wide. "You think I'm like them don't you?

"Not exactly like them. But yes, you became a bit snobbish and entitled. Like the little human Doctor would sit at home waiting on her next orders. But it is not all on you, I allowed it until I couldn't anymore." Lauren pushed her plate to the side for the waitress to collect. She was done eating and only had her coffee and juice to consume.

"This wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the damn Dawning would it? Bo sighed as she bowed her head and played with her hands.

"Bo, we started mere days after I buried Nadia. It was not all on you. I did not give myself proper time to grieve before I moved on. Nadia was the only thing keeping me tied to the Fae. Once she died, the shackles fell off. I did not even get a moment to realize that. I should have run. Hell, even Dyson suggested it." Lauren popped her lips and set her cup back on the table.

"You love me Lauren. That is why you did not run. But you are right, a week is not long enough to repair the damage we have done to each other. So, I'll let you get to work and dictate when we have another date." Bo choked out the last words. She did not imagine Lauren being this hurt and sidelined.

Lauren was on the backburner. Kenzi and Dyson were most always with Bo when she worked on her cases. That only left Lauren in her labs waiting for them to bring something to her. The Succubus paid their tab and walked Lauren to her car. "I'll see you soon." Bo spoke softly as she held the driver's side open for the Doctor.

"Thank you Bo. I'm sorry." Lauren half smiled as she looked up to the Succubus before pulling the door closed.

Bo stood watching as the Doctor pulled off. Part of her wanted to chase her in her car. But the other part knows she needs to let Lauren go be a doctor and live her life. Even if Bo was not her immediate need of release. She pulled her phone out and sent a text to Kenzi. They needed to get to work too. Keeping busy would help keep the hurt and her mind off of Lauren. She is sure the Doctor will feel the same way once she starts working.

She received a slurred text back from Kenzi and knew she was in no state to be working today. "Fine. I'll work alone. But the money will be mine." Bo sent back.

"What's up Kenz? Dyson asked.

"Bo. She wants to go to work." Kenzi laid her head on the counter. She groaned and went to find Hale. His skills are required to sober her up.

She found him easily, but he was not alone. "Bo?

"Good morning Kenzi. I assumed you would be coming to the acting Ash to sober up. He has already agreed to help you. Siren, if you please." Bo gestured towards her partner.

"Okay Bo. But do not make this a daily thing. Because Kenz drinks by the hours." Hale shook his head and blew at Kenzi's head.

"Now you need a bath." Bo pulled Kenzi into the nearest bedroom so she could undress, shower and dress again.

She had been reading. Being more presentable would get them higher paying clients. Hopefully, interesting clients too. It is going to take a lot for her to not call Lauren and ask when their next date is going to be. They are mates, mates that are staying away from each other. She used to feel Dyson's hot breath on her neck even when the wolf was not always around.

She tapped her foot waiting for Kenzi to finally be ready. Their client was not going to accept them being late. Their old clients usually came to them. The best place Bo could get them to meet them would be her hotel lobby. But that just does not jive with the Succubus. Meet them on their own turf. Take in their aura and auras surrounding them. She and her Succubus had mentally agreed to use that power to solve these cases. Coerce clients into spilling all the details and not just yank their chains like the old days. But she cannot use anything on Lauren but her words and body when the doctor allows her to, that is.

"This is a new day." Bo spoke softly to herself.

"I'm ready." Kenzi threw her arms up in the air. Bo is practically making her wear a uniform, of sorts. "Bo, I have to ask. What the fuck? You haven't liked anything I've been wearing lately ad have asked me to change far too many times for my liking."

"It's a new day, Kenzi. We are serving higher paying clientele. If you like, I can drop you back at the Dal or at home." Bo spoke as she changed lanes.

"Is this about Lauren? Kenzi asked.

"Yes." Bo replied and said nothing else.

"Then use your Succubus to buy her things." Kenzi shook her head.

"No. I will not." Bo sighed as they neared their client's office.

"Ugh Bo! You are doing too much!" Kenzi screamed.

Bo slammed on her breaks and turned to Kenzi. "Get out."

"What? You are making me walk? Kenzi scoffed.

"No. This is our client's office building." Bo checked her face in the mirror and climbed out.

Lauren.

The Doctor sighed as she pulled her mask and surgical cap off. She walked into her office and welcomed the silence. She had a couple of emergency surgeries as soon as she walked inside the hospital. Both patients will survive but they did stupid things to their own bodies. She sat at her desk and just closed her eyes. This is her oath. The life she wanted long ago. Long ago was long before the Fae. Long ago was long before Nadia. Long ago was long before Bo.

She sighed thinking of the Succubus and their conversation. She was not being intentionally cruel or shutting Bo completely out. But she was speaking everything that came to her mind. "That's called honesty, Doctor." She spoke to herself.

It would have been so easy to fall back into their old relationship. Pretending Bo missing dates and an important talk was not breaking the blonde's heart. Why should she pretend to not be hurt when Bo never did? If looks could kill Lauren would have died that morning in the lab after they slept together.

Lauren could have died years ago at Fae hands. Nadia was the only thing keeping her alive. She hated the Fae but would never come right out and say it. They are narcissistic assholes and want what they want, when they want it. She shook that off and waited for her lunch to be delivered. Then it was back to the ER and everywhere else she would be needed.

She heard a knock at the door and rubbed sanitizer all over her arms and hands. She ordered them to put the food on the table and watched them leave before sitting down to eat. They have a fully stocked Doctor's lounge on campus, but she is not in the mood for that on her first day. Maybe her second day. She smiled at the thought and bit into her salad. She looked around her new office. It has everything she was promised. Even a little mini bar. For after work. A lush chair faced a large window for her viewing pleasure. A massive flat screen was mounted to the wall across from her desk. They offered a microwave, but the blonde never cared for tv dinners. Popcorn, occasionally.

She went back to her salad and sandwich. She drank some sports drinks before settling down for a quick nap in her lounge chair.

Just as she closed her eyes, she heard another knock at her door. She rolled her eyes. Probably an intern that has lost his or her way. She grabbed her lab coat and pulled it on as she walked over to the door. She swung the door open ready to point them in the right direction when she was floored by her guest.

"Hello, Lauren." Dyson stood serious.

"What are you doing here? Lauren rolled her eyes. Of course, he would find her in a human hospital. He probably has ex-girlfriends here too.

"We need to talk." Dyson walked past her without an invite.

"We certainly do." The blonde's eyes flashed an unusual color as she closed the door behind him.

TBC.
