Ok so I thought I had some great idea by writing this story. Until I found out after writing three pages of this that there were many people that also wrote some fics about metal beings or warriors that were the opposites of the gems. I am just putting this in because I want people to know that I had no idea about other stories like this existing. I only found out about Steven Universe because I heard about the ending coming up so I started watching it to get some context. One series later and I thought up this. So like it, hate it, do whatever. I just felt like writing this.

Prologue:

The creation of life can always be a mystery to many races around the cosmos. For exactly two, they have it down to a science. Though it wasn't always this way. The first all came into this existence the same way most life comes, enraged and screaming.

These two races didn't think of anything of this when they were created. All that occupied their minds was what to do and how to survive. It wasn't long until both of them realized that they were utterly alone on their planets. Their creation had caused the possibility of any other life to come into existence become an impossibility. For both of these, their creation could have been considered an apocalyptic event, for the conditions that required their creation caused the end of all other life. These two species never knew what impact their creation had with the universe, or how the universe impacted their own creation.

For one, the binary white dwarfs it orbited had combined to create a new star that energized the sole planet and caused life to spring from the ultra-irradiated minerals within the planet. The surface of the planet had remained unchanged but the gemstones within had become something else. Absorbing the minerals from their surroundings, these gemstones would turn these minerals into energy to create hard-light constructs. The tectonics of the planet would soon expose the first of these gems to the surface.

The other, the stars that it orbited had collided to form a black hole. The explosion of energy of the collision had super heated the planet and caused the elements of the planet to merge back into the molten mess reflecting the formation of the planet. The formation of the black hole placed the planet at the perfect point in the event horizon to get all of that nice radiation that passed by whenever something got sucked in. This radiation gave life to the materials of the planet, sentience to materials that would otherwise be rock. The sudden cool down from the creation of the black hole gave the sentience a solid form of which life could break off into beings.

Of course these events did not happen simultaneously. The nature of the second's habitat had occurred quite early. In fact the life that had previously occupied the planet had been the first in all existence. Too bad. For if they had prospered faster, or had developed into a higher tier civilization, they would have been able to escape the fate that made the life of the new beings possible. As they formed and watched the cosmos they would eventually witness the creation of many other civilizations along with their eventual destruction. The nature of their system had them temporally slower than all others in the universe. While they awaited the cycle of the disappearance of the light of the black hole into its own shadow they observed that everything else had been moving at a faster pace. For every cycle they had the universe had a thousand.

These beings had formed from the metal scale that had formed on the surface of the planet. The various metals formed together to compose various beings that walked the cooling surface of the planet. However not all of the metals would go to compose into beings, many of the materials of the surface would stay just that. Materials. The ones lucky enough to compose would create their society of power, strength, intelligence, and durability. Those that could excel in any of these would be chosen for roles.

They had eventually built their own civilization from watching what had become of the many they observed. They became a united empire under the leader that had formed to become the most powerful among them all. He would be the one chosen from the rest to be Ferrou. The Ferrou would be chosen when the bright light of the black hole was obscured by its shadow. The Ferrou had to dominate the strength, intelligence, and willpower of the previous Ferrou. If the challenger was not able to do this then the previous Ferrou would absorb him into his own.

Their empire would rule until they discovered something that stood out among the rest of their sky. This is what would eventually become the Gem empire that we know of. They observed how the planet they inhabited opened up to reveal the gemstones. The very first that emerged was the Diamond. Very primitive when first observed, but with all of the nature of their world they just had to wait a bit to see some results. They observed how each new gem burst from the ground with a purpose on their mind. Each gem just had to exist in their world for a short amount of time to know what they had to do. This was helped by the Diamond Authority taking charge to build their civilization.

It was around this time that the observants noticed that their own planet had been slowly drifting toward the black hole, after all of the time that passed since their creation they finally noticed the growth of the black hole had started to endanger their existence. Their race did not know death. The only thing close was that some of their race had been absorbed back into the planet after they were not able to reform themselves. This was their way of reforming their physical form in a safe place, this also allowed the possibility of the materials around them to have the possibility of composing into being. This was not a guarantee because it ran the risk of mental instabilities forming in the subject. If their planet was absorbed into the black hole then even their physiology would not protect them.

This finding was brought forth to Ferrou and they gave their proposition. They had been observing life outside the orbit of their black hole and they should use this threat to their existence to introduce themselves to the universe. Ferrou, not too adamant to leave tradition, believed that it was possible to just move their planet into a more favorable orbit.

This order was disseminated around the planet. The beginning of the Hand of Ferrou would commence. This planetary booster would propel the planet into a more suitable orbit. All of the inhabitants of the planet were called for its construction. From the largest bronze to the numerous lead, all were to build some part of the engine. By the end of the cycle the construction had finished. To mark the completion of the Hand of Ferrou, the Ferrou decided to accept a challenger. This of course just ended with him absorbing another steel that decided to try.

The Hand of Ferrou went off exactly as planned. The planet they called Metaloidia swiftly sailed to the new orbit. Of course this is the part of the story where you'd assume that something goes wrong. Well you're right. Something did in fact go wrong. The black hole's gravitational pull suddenly increased at a pace too fast for the planetary booster.

The only option was left on the table. Push the booster to the max and hope that it would be enough. This last effort was not intended. The Hand of Ferrou was not built for this type of travel. It was designed to move the planet slowly. This action caused a great burst of speed from the engine, only for it to cut out right as they neared the stable orbit. This caused their planet to again be sucked toward the thing that gave them the means for their creation. All of the engineers and scientists worked as fast as one could. Their efforts eventually got the engine going again, but not in the way that was intended. The pull towards the singularity had shifted the trajectory of the planet. When the engine came back online it caused the planet to be forced in a different direction and be slingshot by the singularity and be flung into unknown space.

Their civilization had gone unnoticed for eons by the creatures of the universe, only one race observed when a planet was expelled by the spot of darkness on their systems. It was on this day that a steel looked to the newly twinkling sky and saw a diamond staring back.
