Chapter One - Breakdown

Anakin Skywalker stared out the window of the Jedi Council room from where he sat all alone with no one else but his own mind. The circular room was bathed in the pinkish glow of the sunset which reflected off the multitude of city buildings. Ordinarily this view would have been an image of serene beauty for anyone to look upon. But its splendor was completely unseen by Anakin this evening. His mind was completely clouded with betrayal and troubled thoughts.

Chancellor Palpatine, was the man who had practically taken young Anakin Skywalker under his wing after he had lost Qui-Gon thirteen years ago. In the short time Anakin had been with Qui-Gon Jinn, the Jedi master had been the closest thing to a father he had ever known. Palpatine had then filled the empty space which Qui-Gon had left when he'd been murdered by Darth Maul during the battle of Theed. Become the rock which Anakin had needed.

How could this so kind a man be the deadly Sith Lord they had been searching for all these years? The mastermind behind the murder attempts on Padme, the invasion on Naboo and the countless battles of the three long years of the Clone Wars? It could not be true, it just couldn't be. And yet it was and Anakin knew it. He had known the Chancellor was telling the truth. The force itself confirmed he spoke truth.

He lowered his head as he thought of something else which confused him. Why had Palpatine not struck back when Anakin had drawn out his lightsaber? If he was so dangerous why had he not tried to fight him when Anakin's saber was activated? Why had he pleaded for him to learn from him? If he thought the dark side was the only answer, he was wrong. He would rather die than poison his mind with darkness and become a servant of evil. He shuddered as he remembered Maul and what would befall Padme if he consumed himself with that kind of darkness.

His head shot up and he rose to his feet. How did Palpatine know about him and Padme? How did he know that they were married and even worse, did he know about his strange visions and nightmares of her possible death? He walked over the window, the glow of the sunset washing over his troubled face as he stared across at Padme's penthouse across the city. If Palpatine knew all this about them, did he possibly know about the baby as well?

Panic began flaring inside him like a fire being kindled to a giant blaze. If Palpatine's intent was to make him join him on the dark side, what would befall his child? Tears filled his eyes. Why did so many awful hardships happen to him? He had suffered so much already. Living his early childhood as a slave, being separated from his mother, living ten long years apart from her and when finally reunited she died in his arms. And the only happiness left in his life had to be kept a deadly secret.

Now with this baby coming, he had more than one important person to protect. Something which he could not do alone. This was too big for him to fight alone. But who else was there to turn to? The second the Jedi found out about his marriage and child he would be expelled and become an outcast, alone and unsupported. Padme's love alone would not be enough. He would need protection for her and the baby. But where would he get it?

He thought of Obi-Wan. But he was uncertain what view his master would take. Though he had been like a brother to him all these years. His master was a big supporter of the Jedi way and the rules of the council. He did not know what Kenobi's opinion would be or if he'd even help. He had been silent when Anakin had been denied the rank of master. Despite the fact that his master possibly knew of his potential, he had remained silent in the council's decision.

The tears in his eyes were almost brimming over. The harder he stared at the Penthouse, the larger it seemed to become with each second which passed. It was all too much. But what was he to do? He was no master, he had failed Ahsoka when he'd had the chance to be a master. The memory of her walking away from him and the temple made his tears thicken so much that his vision was all clouded over.

He had to get away from this room. He needed to find someone to spill his troubles to. But who could he go to? There were only three people that he always turned to with his troubles. However Obi-Wan had still not returned from Utapau. But Anakin had no patience to wait any longer for his return and he was still unsure about trusting his master with this matter. Palpatine was totally and completely out of the question anymore. So there was only one person left.

At the same second his tears fell down his cheeks he turned and fled the room. He charged through the corridors at full speed, his cloak blowing out behind him. He dodged and leapt over any Jedi, youngling or droid who stood in his path. He ignored the ones who called after him and kept on running. He didn't want to see any of them despite that a few of them sounded sympathetic and concerned.

Within mere minutes, he'd reached the hanger bay and found Artoo working beside his fighter. Even without asking, the droid seemed to sense that something was wrong and quickly inserted himself into the socket of the fighter as Anakin leapt in and fired it up. Seconds later, they took to the sky. Anakin throttled the engines to maximum speed, determined to reach his destination as fast as possible. He expertly swerved and dodged the other vehicles just as easily as he had dodged the other Jedi in the temple. He was not going to allow anything to prevent him from reaching where he had to get to.

Padme walked round her living room, the lights in the city were starting to come on as the sun set below the horizon and the buildings became dotted by dozens of lights. But the prettiness of the sight did not please the young woman. A short while ago, she had felt an odd kind of feeling. Almost as though she could sense something was wrong. She looked across to the Jedi Temple far in the distance and feared for her beloved Anakin. It was strange, ever since she had become pregnant she seemed to have developed a sense to when something was wrong. Maybe pregnancy did that to women, the concern which they felt for their unborn children extended to the father of the child.

Two kicks within her stomach jolted her from her thoughts and she rubbed her belly to try and soothe the baby back into calmness. She was sure that she was only weeks if not days away from delivering. The sooner the better, she was going to need her strength if she was to protect the baby. And while she was pregnant like this they were both vulnerable.

She hoped more than anything that when the time came, Anakin would be here or at least get here quick enough to see the childbirth. The thought of that reminded her of Ani's disturbing dreams he had had lately. She still did not know if she should be that concerned. How could she die during childbirth? She had always been a healthy woman and girl before that, both physically, diet wise and health wise. The only other reason could be that someone might attempt to kill her again. She didn't know what to think. But that did not stop the small spark of fear that spread through her. Not just for herself but for the baby too. Anakin had been uncertain with the baby's life in regard to these dreams and it was that which frightened Padme most of all. She cradled her stomach praying for her child to be born healthily and safe in her and Anakin's arms. Sadly, she walked slowly to her bedroom.

Author's Notes
Hello there readers! I hope you are all coping and surviving with all that's going on with COVID-19. Well just stay strong and think positively.
I also hope you enjoyed the beginning of this new Fanfic. To those of you who have been reading my other works, I'm sure you would have noticed that this one is a bit different than my other Star Wars fanfics. Usually I have done Luke/Vader fanfics but this was something I have wanted to do for a long time. I can't watch most of "Revenge Of The Sith" after this scene in the movie as most of it becomes too painful to watch, so I hope you like how this story goes.
I look forward to posting the upcoming chapters. But if you really want to see them then please let me know in your reviews. Please also "Favourite" and "Follow" this Fanfic.

And Thank you very much to my Lovely BETA Reader Carrie2sky ! :D
