"You lot better hurry up or else we'll be late!" Trixie called from the bottom of the stairs, shutting her pocket mirror after adjusting her hair one last time. Jenny, Cynthia and Chummy all graciously walked down the long staircase to join Trixie and Shelagh who were waiting by the grand oak doors.

"Trix we have plenty of time - do stop worrying!" Jenny huffed as she slipped on her shoes.

"It's half eight already, we start at nine on the dot! Besides, I don't want to feel the wrath of Sister Ursula if we're late on our first day of second year, now come on will you!"

"Yes ma'am!" Jenny saluted with a giggle, Trixie rolling her eyes opened the doors and hurried everyone out and into the cold, busy streets of London. After a short walk and rather busy tube journey the girls made it to the hospital with five minutes to spare.

In the next few months they would be sitting their written exams as well as their practicals - the stakes were high and had no room for error, especially as they would soon be given their individual shift patterns.

As the girls made their way through the hospital and up to the maternity unit their talk had turned to junior doctors, and who they would like to work with in 'close quarters' as Trixie had put it.

"Doctor Wilson of course" Jenny replied with a small wink.

"And why would that be Nurse Lee?" Trixie asked.

"I feel like he could teach me a thing or too" Jenny replied with a large smirk on her face.

"Jenny Lee you little minx!" Trixie started, "I've got my eye on Doctor Dockerill from ophthalmology, now we know Chummy already has her man in uniform Mr Noakes and that Cynthia is 'taking a break from boys' so that leaves us with Shelagh, who have you got your eye on?" Trixie inquired.

"Oh yes, do tell us!" Chummy chimed in after putting her phone away.

Shelagh looked at the doctors that were passing and grinned cheekily before turning to face the girls again.

"As if I'd tell you that" Shelagh smirked and started to walk ahead of the girls at a faster rate.

"Oi, don't be a tease!" Jenny remarked.

"Is there someone?" Trixie and Chummy pried simultaneously.

"No!" Shelagh said rather firmly, stopping in her tracks as she did so "Now can we please get to the locker room? We can't be late today!" Shelagh huffed as they turned the corner towards the maternity unit.

"Good morning girls, its nice to see you! I'll be starting handover at the nurses station in a few minutes" Sister Julienne said with a bright, welcoming smile. She was glad the girls were back.

"Morning sister!" The girls chimed in unison before making their way to the lockers.

"I hope to be put on ward rounds" Cynthia said with a small smile as she shut her locker.

"Whoever is given ward rounds is one lucky person, knowing my luck I'll be placed on discharge or paperwork" Trixie huffed.

"Neither of those are bad Trixie, you just want to be in the action, with the doctors" Shelagh added as she neatened her uniform.

The girls all giggled as Trixie rolled her eyes, the girls collectively made their way to the nurses station.

"It's lovely to have you all back" Sister Julienne began "We'll be joined by a few of the junior doctors today. For now though I would like to give you your job roles for this week. Nurse Lee will be joining Doctor Wilson on home visits, Nurse Franklin and Nurse Miller will be on ward duties, Nurse Browne nurses station to complete paperwork and finally, Nurse Mannion will be shadowing Doctor Turner. I hope you are all alright with that and are ready to get started?"

"Yes Sister!" The girls responded.

"I'll check in on you all throughout the day, remember to take notes for your written exams" Sister Julienne said with a smile before walking back to her office.

"Well then, let's get started shall we?" Chummy chimed.

After checking the wards Shelagh had thought she would find Doctor Turner in his office. Knocking on the door she received no answer, so she gently opened the door, only to see Timothy sitting on the couch.

"Hello Shelagh!" Timothy chimed, happy to see his friend again.

"Hello Timothy, Shouldn't you be at school?" Shelagh asked, raising her brow at the wee boy who was wearing a marvel t-shirt rather than his usual school attire.

"It's a non pupil day, Mrs Penny couldn't look after me, and dad couldn't have time off, so I'm going to spend my day here in his office. I'm not sure why I can't stay at home though" Tim shrugged as he closed his book.

"Because staying home alone can be scary Tim, and I'm sure you know that after what happened last time" Shelagh said.

"Yes but I'm 10 now, I'm not a baby" He whined making Shelagh giggle and sit down next to him.

"I know you're not, you're dad just wants to keep you safe. Now talking of your father, do you know where he is?"

"He's just popped out to get a coffee from the café, he'll be back in a minute. Do you mind helping me with this bit of homework?" Timothy asked as he opened the book up once again "Once this piece is finished I can watch movies on dad's phone"

"Sure, what is it you need help with?" Shelagh asked as she sat down next to him.

"I've got to ask 10 adults to fill in this survey about what they do for a living, and so far I've only got dad and gran".

"Well I'll fill one out and I'm sure I can get the other girls to fill it out as well?" She asked, Timothy grinned and nodded.

"Yes please that would be smashing" Timothy said as the door opened and his dad stepped in with a paper bag and coffee cup.

"Ah hello Nurse Mannion, it's good to see you again!" Patrick cheered as he placed his drink down and passed Timothy a paper bag, Shelagh smiled knowing that where was probably a doughnut inside.

"Morning Doctor Turner, it's good to be back! Sister Julienne has asked me to shadow you for the week" Shelagh chimed, she was glad to see the Turner boys again - they had become rather close during her first year and now couldn't imagine her life without them.

"Well then, let's get started shall we?" Patrick asked as he picked up his clip board and extended his arm behind her back to lead them out.

They both smiled knowing that this was going to be a good day.
