His smile was so beautiful. It was like the world was perfect whenever she was with him. He smelled like old spice and dirty laundry sometimes but she didn't care. He was perfect to her, he was her world and she found comfort in thinking that he was hers; and she was his. She dreamed of him every night. Sometimes she would dream of them in high school again. Rarely she would dream of them as parents, the most vivid being a baby girl. She could see her face, even now, even though she wasn't even real. She dreamed of a future with him. She knew nobody would approve, but she couldn't help herself. She was a dreamer…she just wanted a dream to come true.

Her eyes fluttered open.

She couldn't understand where she was.

The world was burning around her.

She looked at him.

She held her hand out.

She begged him in her mind to turn around to choose her to pick her up to save her.

She couldn't breathe…

Her throat hurt to speak.

Her eyes started to tear up.

All the smiles…

The long nights and late days…

The food runs and movie make outs…

Everything…

Everything she ever did with him…

For him…

'I love you"

It screamed in her head!

All the times she heard that sentence!

All the times her heart fluttered when he said it.

All the times she thought it meant something…

When I guess... it really meant nothing at all.

She lifted her hand as much as she could.

She was so tired…

She was so tired of fighting for love…

For his love.

But just ONE..MORE…TIME…please.

She reached for him as he walked away…

"Please…choose me"

He stopped.

He turned his body slowly around.

He's coming back…

He loves me…

He's coming back.

But there she was…

In his arms…

There was a woman.

She was unconscious.

Being held by him.

Why?

Why do want her?

Why are you saving her?

Why are you?

Why?

You love me!

You said you love me!

She wanted to scream.

But she was so tired.

She fought for years for him.

She cried for him…

She begged for him…

So…

She finally just…

Let go.

She watched as he looked at her.

She saw his eyes.

Saw sadness.

Saw remorse.

But then the girl started to squirm.

He looked down at her.

Then back at the girl on the floor.

Begging for him to come to her.

But he just turned away…

He walked away…

She watched as he disappeared. The flames consuming where he was. She knew he was gone. So as she lay there, she closed her eyes. Finally, the ground fell out underneath her. She didn't scream, she didn't reach out again. She just fell…and waited for someone the catch her.

Nobody ever did.
