Chapter 1

"... Mmm, I can just taste that zebra now!" Janja growled, a smile creeping upon his lips.

"Yeah, yeah!" Chungu agreed. "Deee-licious!" Cheezi yelped.

"Shut it, furbrains! You're gonna give us away!" Janja snapped.

"Too late." The three hyenas jumped and turned to see the owner of the new voice.

"Nice to see you, too. Oh, wait, no it's not," Fuli taunted. "You!" Janja growled, baring his teeth. "Yeah, and the rest of us, too!"

The lead hyena whipped around. Kion and the rest of the Lion Guard was standing right there, but instead of turning to flee, Janja smiled. Cheezi and Chungu did, too, but it was obvious they didn't really know why.

"Why are you still here?" Fuli growled,"Do we really have to send you back to the Outlands ourselves?"

"Fuli," Kion warned. Janja yipped a command just then, and ten to twelve other hyenas jumped the Guard.

Fuli easily evaded the first few hyenas that tried to get her, but she was soon underneath a pile of the creatures. Ono was flying up, diving, pecking, flying up, diving, pecking. It worked for a little while, but he was quickly overwhelmed by the hyenas, as well. Bunga was jumping on the hyenas' heads, which caused them to attack one another as they tried to get him. Kion batted at any hyenas, but he wasn't doing very well.

The hyenas really just left Beshte alone, but the few that tried attacking him were quickly knocked unconscious by their own stupidity.

"Twende kiboko!" Beshte shouted as he ran at the hyenas harming Ono. The hyenas darted away, leaving a bloodied Ono lying in a heap. "Ono!" Beshte yelled, worried for his friend. "Yeah?" Ono replied, sitting up and turning his head to look at Beshte.

Ono glanced down at his blood covered feathers and said," Oh, that's mostly theirs." He nodded towards the whimpering hyenas, and flew up to Beshte's back.

"Hevi kabisa!" Kion roared, shaking off his attackers. Bunga leaped over to him, having fended off his own hyenas.

Ono and Beshte hurried over to the two.

"Get behind me!" Kion ordered. "I'm going to use the Roar!" "But, Kion..." Beshte said.

"Not now, Beshte," Kion said. "But-" "I said, not now!"

Then Kion did it. He let out a roar that shook the earth, a roar that held the power of all the Spirits. A roar that had created the Lion Guard.

The Roar.

All the hyenas were literally blown away. The hyenas yelped and whimpered, but Kion would not stop. The hyenas soon disappeared, now back in the Outlands, where they belonged.

"KION!" Beshte roared as the last of the Roar faded. Kion turned, not used to Beshte sounding so angry.

"Fuli was still out there, Kion! Under hyenas!" Kion turned pale.

"W- what?" He whipped his head around and saw his friend lying on the ground. Kion darted over to Fuli, almost as fast as the young cheetah himself.

"Fuli, Fuli, no!" Kion cried. He pressed his paw to Fuli's chest, and was relieved to find it rising steadily.

"K- Kion...?"

Kion looked down into the face of the cheetah cub, relief flooding over him.

"Yeah, Fuli. I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were still here and not over with me- uh, us. I didn't mean to-" "Kion, what? I have no idea what you're talking about," Fuli broke in.

"You- you don't?" Kion asked.

"Um, no," Fuli said matter-of-factly, getting to her paws. "The last thing I remember is Janja's crew leaping onto me and trying to rip me apart. They mainly bit each other, though."

Fuli laughed aloud at that last part, but as she put weight on her back left leg, she growled in pain.

"Fuli!" Kion yelped,"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm fine," Fuli said, a little too quickly. "Just a little sore, that's all."

Kion raised an eyebrow, but held his tongue.

Fuli put her paw down again, but quickly lifted it up.

"I don't know, Fuli," Ono spoke. "Maybe we should get you back to Rafiki, just in case."

Fuli growled; she didn't like the idea. But she also knew that the rest of the Guard would make her go. And, besides, her leg did hurt.

"Fine," Fuli said. "But it's probably nothing."
